Barbary Coast Burlesque returns after a brief hiatus, and the show will go on this Saturday evening at Enrico's in San Francisco's North Beach.
Featured in the show will be Kitten on the Keys! Kitten (pictured) is a San Francisco music and burlesque icon who just this year was featured in the film, Tournée (On Tour), which won a Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival for Mathieu Amalric. Last month, she was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the Queen of Burlesque event at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival. You may have seen her perform at any number of events around the Bay Area, as she's always in demand. One thing is for sure, you'll never forget having seen her perform!
Also performing will be Isabella Minx, who has recently returned from a stint in New York City. In addition, witness Lady Satan (aka The Original Sin), who inhabits her burlesque characters like no one else! And get singed by Flame Cynders, whose white hot performance may just leave you thirsting for more drinks from the bar. Finally, Barbary Coast Burlesque's own Bunny Pistol won't be firing blanks. No sirree! Her aim is true, and you'll be hit by entertainment the likes of which you'll remember for a long time to come!
If you've never been to Enrico's, it's a jazz supper club that offers dining and cocktails. On one side of the club, there is a bar with some small tables and stools on which to sit. On the other side there are tables for dining. If you'd like to make a dinner reservation, please call 415-982-6223. You'll want to make sure to get there before 8 p.m. to find a good seat or vantage point from which to watch the show. It'll be Saturday night and it's free, so Enrico's will probably be packed!
So head on over to Enrico's for some delicious drinks, fabulous food, and bawdy burlesque this Saturday evening! Dare yourself!

If you read through the lineup for this Monday night's Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown Club in Oakland, you might just glance over her name. But there she is between Red Velvet and Zip The What-Is-It?! The Stripping Granny. One does a double take. The Stripping Granny?
Lynn Ruth Miller is an author, journalist, artist, humorist, storyteller, cabaret singer, and as she calls herself on her website, a survivor. She performs around the Bay Area at comedy clubs, cafes, theaters, night clubs, and she's put on her one-woman show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the past five years. She's also performed at the Brighton Festival, where's she's won the 2008 ThreeWeeks Editors' Award and 2009 Brighton’s Latest Magazine’s Star of the Festival Award.
The themes of this Pacifica resident's shows often revolve around aging, the embracing of one's uniqueness, and the encouragement of creativity. All of this is done with wit and humor, of course. Some of her shows include Aging Is Amazing, Farewell to the Tooth Fairy, and Alzheimer’s, Alzheimer’s Cha Cha Cha, all of which she staged and produced.
At 67 years of age, she published her first book, Starving Hearts. At 71, she decided to take up stand up comedy and performed at Edinburgh. Now, at 77, she'll be performing at the Hubba Hubba Revue!
That is one of the wonderful things about current day burlesque shows, isn't it? You not only get to see wonderful burlesque dancers such as Bunny Pistol, Miss Balla Fire, Ava Lanche, Honey Penny, Delilah, and Josie Starre, but you get to see very talented and unexpected acts like The Stripping Granny, Toshio Hirano the Yodeling Japanese Cowboy, and many others.
So drop by the Uptown on Monday night for some fantastic burlesque, plus a performance by a wonderfully inspirational and amazing individual who will make you question your preconceptions of aging. And she'll provide you with a few laughs and smiles along the way!

It looks like Red Hots Burlesque is going to be busy, though! In fact, they'll be putting on two shows on Friday night in two cities that are about 80 miles apart. How will they do this? (SFBR Ombudsman's note: The editor and writer apparently have been staying out far too late and partying way too hard. The blog post of Thursday, September 16, concerning the Hot Pink Feathers contained several errors including bad and missing links, and an old class description. The SFBR has decided to re-post this article in its entirety with corrections. If you see the SFBR editor and writer out late drinking and carousing, please remind them of their responsibilities and send them on home. Thank you for your understanding.)
This year, the Hot Pink Feathers will be celebrating their 10th anniversary! Starting in 2000, the showgirls of HPF have been delighting audiences with their own brand of World Cabaret Showgirl dance! Led by the Queen of Carnaval SF 2008 Kellita, they've performed on many stages across the country, appeared on television, and won awards such as the San Francisco Bay Guardian's "Best Dance Company" in the 2008 edition of the "Best of the Bay" polls.
They'll also be celebrating the four year anniversary of their show Burlesque n' Brass. Along with their musical collaborators Blue Bone Express, they've been wowing audiences at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland since 2006. And on Saturday, October 2, it'll also be a celebration of Kellita's birthday, so expect an extra helping of gloss and glitter! It all starts when the doors open at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, and the show is for those 21 years of age and older. Cafe Van Kleef is located at 1621 Telegraph Avenue, near the 19th Street BART station.
The Feathers have also started up a Facebook Page. Just click on over there and click the "like" button, and you'll get updates through Facebook. That's so cool!
If you're looking for email updates, they've got you covered there, too. Just navigate over to hotpinkfeathers.com/calendar.html, and click on the pink link. Once you fill out the online form, you'll receive HPF news in your inbox via their new email service!

Oleeander Moon (aka Jodi Waseca) has been fascinated with hobos and gypsies since the age of 3, when she picked up the art of dance and hasn't put it down since. This monthly show at San Francisco's Bubble Lounge moves to the second Tuesday of the month for September. This month's featured burlesque performers are the Mischievous Maidens! Also, enjoy the comedy of emcee Lee Sanger Goldin, the musical stylings of Belinda Blair, and more comedy with Natasha Muse!
And there's no cover for this show. Just bring some dough for the bubbly you'll want to enjoy during the evening!
Comedy and Champagne are ** Guaranteed for GIDDINESS ** at this month's "Les Folies"!
MC Lee Sanger Goldin guides us through an evening of high class hooch and hoochie coochie at the Bubble Lounge's monthly cabaret: "Les Folies Champagne". Exquisite champagnes are paired with tantalizing, ecclectic live entertainment. This month we proudly present Belinda Blair, the Mischevious Maidens, and Natasha Muse. This is a night not to be missed-- especially since there's no cover charge!
Belinda Blair (Chanteuse on Ukulele with a stand-up bassist) "Belinda has created a sassy, tongue-in-cheek vocal act on tenor ukulele. Her material ranges from blues, funk, bluegrass, reggae, soul, to indie rock and jazz. Next, she gets a crowbar and forces each song right out of its genre and into another of her choosing so it can be heard in a new way." http://belindablair.com
Lee Sanger Goldin (MC and Comedian) "Lee Sanger Goldin is an annoyingly diverse creative outhole. He has performed everything from Shakespeare to standup, sketch to improv, musicals to modern drama. As a writer he has penned plays, screenplays, music, political commentary, short stories, documentaries, and dirty poetry. On the Internet, Lee maintains a presence as a blogger, YouTuber, and podcaster." http://www.chickenscratchimprov.com/bios
Mischevious Maidens (Burlesque Trio Extraordinaire) Kitty Coquette, Bubble Yum, and Lady X are amazing burlesque performers who add a dash of juggling, comedy, and intrigue to their stripping! "The best burlesque of your LIFE!" http://themischievousmaidens.com
Natasha Muse (Comedienne) "Natasha has performed all over the Bay Area, including the SF Comedy Clubhouse, the Purple Onion, the Dark Room, Castagnola's and the Actors' Theatre, where she produces and hosts "A Funny Night for Comedy" on the second Sunday of every month. Natasha is the first runner-up of the 2009 Battle of the Bay competition, and is almost definitely at least the second-funniest transsexual you know." http://natashamuse.com
