The Lair of Lady Monster Radio Show for Saturday, August 1, 2009

Lady Monster returns to the airwaves this Saturday for an interview with supervixen Sahara Dunes of Portland, Oregon. Here's what Lady Monster says about this frequent Bay Area performer!

My August 1st broadcast features Portland's Caribbean Sapphic Burlesque Sweetheart, Sahara Dunes.

Photobucket

She's got a heart of gold and eyes of fire. Sahara is a sassy, sinister, and sensual creature that will suck you into the movements of her hips. Her long legs have been known to be lethal and she's got a figure that stops traffic.

She's a tassel twirlin', shimmy shakin', sassy stripteasin', artist and she's comin' for you! Some say she was born with it. Some say she is self taught. Either way, her gift of dance and art will entertain and mesmerize you.

I saw Lady Monster at the Feed fundraiser last night, and she was looking and sounding great!

Don't forget that you can listen to Lady Monster in the afternoon, and then see her doing her thing at Madame Maraschino's House of Burlesque Saturday evening. For all the details, check out my previous event post!

Red Hots Burlesque for Friday, July 31, 2009

Before I get to RHB for this Friday, I'd like to remind everyone of the big FEED-FUNdraiser later this evening Thursday, July 30. For all the details, please see the previous posting. It's a big event for Dottie Lux and Val Killmore, so I hope many of you out there can make it out to the Climate Theater. It starts at 7pm. Methinks it will be a rockin' good time. :-)

Looking at the description for tomorrow's Red Hots Burlesque show, it looks like Dottie and Val will be celebrating all things Leo! No, not Di Caprio, but rather the astrological sign. Which means there should be a birthday celebration. Hmm... I wonder whose birthday will be celebrated? Joining in will be some all-star performers! Lady Satan, Ruby White, Lady Monster, and Mariel A Aa Mode will be among the main attractions.

And finally...weekly burlesque continues at El Rio. Hey Leos you know it's your self centered birth time! And at RHB we're happy to celebrate your fiery existence. Show choc' full of mirrors for you to gaze at your beautiful manes and people chanting your name! This week we clap our hands and stomp our feet for the Red Hots Burlesque's most important Leo...VAL KILLMORE! With performances by: Dottie Lux, Ruby White, Lady Satan, Lady Monster, Mariel A La Mode and more more more!

The Devil-Ettes and live music at SF Songbird Festival Thursday, July 30, 2009

Been jonesing to see the Devil-Ettes perform? Then catch them this Thursday, July 30, as they perform before some of the Bay Area's most soulful bands! Yes, it's the SF Songbird Festival's Soul Shakedown, and it will be at The Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco.

Notice that this is an all ages show. So if you're younger than 21, this is your chance to see the Devil-Ettes in action!

Here are the other details:

1st Annual SF Songbird Festival presents… SOUL SHAKEDOWN!

Where: The Rickshaw Stop 155 Fell Street SF
When: Thursday July 30th
8 pm/ $10

All ages

Who:
Lord Loves A Working Man
The Struts
The Hi-Nobles
plus The Devil-Ettes dancing before each band!

LORD LOVES A WORKING MAN
Based out of the Mission District of San Francisco, Lord Loves A Working Man is a 9-piece band inspired by the raw and emotive sound of the Southern Soul shouters and horn-driven Rhythm & Blues of the 1960s. Mixing originals with obscure covers, LLAWM puts everything they got into respectfully invoking the spirit of old soul music while giving it their own distinct voice. "These men pour their hearts out in songs that make audience members alternately work up a sweat and hold each other very, very close." -SF Weekly
http://myspace.com/lordlovesaworkingman

THE STRUTS
"The Struts are a five-piece, female fronted, full-throttle rhythm and blues outfit from Oakland, CA. They've got a high energy live show, a dedicated Bay Area fan base and an exciting "Rhythm-N-Grit" sound. Simply put... It's fast. It's loud. And when singer, Farrah Ancell, steps up to the microphone -- when you hear her deliver that first note with all the grit and growl of a young Etta James -- you'll know something serious is about to go down. It's punk rock in the juke joint and it swings like a mother." --SF Chronicle
http://myspace.com/struts

THE HI-NOBLES
The Hi-Nobles play soul from the garage, and garage from the soul. With a precision-tight band holding together a live show in danger of bursting apart, a beat to get you out on the floor and the tunes to keep you there all night, The Hi-Nobles testify and deliver! It's abandon and energy, pounding and resounding, the 60s mod garage soul returning to the 21st century. Played with fever, sung with inspiration, brash, bold, too hot to hold, hard driving, always striving, too cool for your school, too raw for your ma!
http://myspace.com/thehinobles

THE DEVIL-ETTES
SF's go-go sweethearts show off their dance moves before each band. "The Devil-Ettes make an extra effort to deliver an authentic go-go dancing act. Working as a collective, they spend hours examining old '60s beach party films, television shows, records and wardrobes to respectfully replicate the Watusi, the Twist and the Swim - all with the right wink and a smile." --SF Chronicle

Tease-O-Rama 2009 news: No TOR this year

It's official. There will not be a Tease-O-Rama (www.teaseorama.com) in 2009. Artistic director and producer Baby Doe released an official statement on Tease-O-Rama's Yahoo Groups (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/teaseorama/) stating that she and co-producer Alan Parowski decided not to go forward with the event this year due to the recession. Here is the statement:

Tease-O-Rama 2009

I have not made an official announcement on this list but people have been asking me so I thought I would let you know. Alan and I have decided not to do Tease-O-Rama in 2009.

It was just too tough for us to figure out with this economy. There are lots of local SF burlesque events that are doing great but with the expenses to pull together such a big event like Tease-O-Rama we were a little gun shy this year... even the San Francisco Blue's Fest cancelled their event after 36 years! Ek!

Do not fear - Tease-O-Rama is not gone forever! We have LOTS of plans in the works and as always PLEASE keep in touch and let us know what you are up to. We love hearing about new acts and events that are being created. Feel free to send stuff to us at: Tease-O-Rama 2215-R Market St #177 SF CA 94114

I hope to see old friends and meet new ones at Burlycon in Seattle this October where I will be a guest of honor (aw, thanks guys!). Please introduce yourself to me at the event cause I would love to meet you. www.burlycon.com

Oh also save the dates of November 13th and 14th in SF as I will be producing my dream theatrical show The Go Go Spectacular at the BRAVA. Totally different then Tease-O-Rama but just as much bang for your buck! Details will be sent on this soon.

XOXO Baby Doe
Tease-O-Rama Artistic Director/Producer

So it appears that TOR will be back next year, if the economy becomes healthier. I'm sure you all are disappointed as I am, but we'll look forward to future TORs! :-)

In the meantime, I'll work on putting together a calendar of burlesque festivals for those of you who need a burlesque festival fix before next year. I do believe that the Toronto Burleque Festival (http://www.torontoburlesquefestival.com/) is happening this weekend, July 23-26. And, as Baby Doe mentioned, BurlyCon (http://www.burlyconseattle.com/) is happening this fall, October 22-25. BurlyCon is pretty much for performers, producers, and others involved in the shows, though, as there are no real shows to attend.

Thrillville Shatfest with Twilight Vixen Revue on Thursday, July 23, 2009

I remember the old days when Thrillville was at the Cerrito Speakeasy Theater in El Cerrito. There'd be Will the Thrill and Monica Tiki Goddess spinning the prize wheel. There were the often cheesy but classic movies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. And, yes, there were often burlesque performances! Ah, those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end....

Now, the Cerrito Speakeasy is closed. But Thrillville lives on! Will and Monica have been taking their show on the road. This Thursday, July 23, Thrillville comes to the 4 Star Theater in San Francisco. And it's a special night. It's a "Shatfest"! No, that's not a misspelling. Ha ha. Feed: The Fundraiser on Thursday, July 30, 2009

I don't have a line-up for tonight's Red Hots Burlesque, but I think Dottie's been working hard on the fundraiser for the new Lux-Killmore film, Feed.

The first fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, and it'll feature a lineup of some of the finest burlesque performers the area has to offer and raffles, a dance party, art auction, and so much more!

Where is it? How much is it? What is the film about? The details of the event are below :-)

FEED -- a FUN-draiser for LuxKillmore Entertainment --

On July 30th Dottie Lux, Val Killmore, Keptone Filmz and friends present FEED – a FUN-draiser. The good time is going down at The Climate Theater, which regularly has performances, art showings and parties. And for a good cause too! Read on...

Lux Killmore Entertainment (Terror of Titty Town, Buxotic Beauty Murders, Lost Weenders) team up with Keptone Filmz (Interstate, The Other End Of The Line) to develop their short film, Cannibal Love Lust into a feature film, now called FEED. All monies raised at this event will feed FEED. Production begins this fall, so we need to get cooking on raising some much needed dough!

FEED is a savory, sensual, slasher, love story about Chef Ronnie, a charming celebrity chef who thrives and shines in her everyday life as owner and proprietor of , La Pica Diabla, a trendy Spanish tapas restaurant and bar in San Francisco. Chef Ronnie cooks internationally award-winning meals by day and her nights are spent in ways too gruesome to fathom. In her secret life, Ronnie, is a cannibal serial killer who murders a variety of people, from her disposable array of amorous and clueless lovers, former employees and the occasional diners. As Chef Ronnie and La Pica Diabla's reputation get hot in all of San Francisco's social and top food circles; so does San Francisco's murder count. Being haunted by her past, in the form a vengeful lover, and being caught in the seductive cross fire of a increasingly serious relationship; Chef Ronnie has bit off more than she can chew.

"FEED" is a fully LGBT film. All the characters are homo or trans and our killer...A LESBIAN. Name one movie (besides vampire flicks) where the killer is a lesbian. Still can't think of one? That's because it's an entirely untapped market. Lux Killmore wants to bring you the first and the best. Let's pave the way together! Come for the fantastic fun evening that will leave you plump and juicy, full of warm, savory goodness: DJs, dancing, burlesque performances, a silent art auction, delicious baked goods sale and a FULL BAR! We need to raise $10,000 for tape stock and camera rental, so come with an appetite (and a full wallet).

When: Thursday, July 30th. 7pm - Midnight.

Where: The Climate Theater, http://www.climatetheater.com/ , 285 Ninth Street @ Folsom, SF

How much: $10 regular entry. $25 VIP entry. Please inquire about the VIP ticket package.

Why: to raise funds to help LuxKillmore Entertainment make the feature-length film, FEED

Hubba Hubba Revue: Hell! on Friday, July 17, 2009

Normally, I'd say something about seeing all the talented and sexy dancers at this week's big Hubba Hubba Revue show, Hell! But this week is different, I'm gonna turn the SFBR spotlight on Brian Gardner.

Who is Brian Gardner you ask? Well, this week he'll be known as BeezleBrian. Brian is the founder of Swing Goth, and he'll be teaching anyone who wants to learn to partner dance this Friday at the Big Show from 9:30 to 10:00pm upstairs at the DNA Lounge.

Lately, he's been expanding his empire. He's still holding Swing Goth at El Rio ( 3158 Mission Street in SF) every first and third Tuesdays. But he's also orchestrating the Bowie Ball on Friday, August 14, at The Great American Music Hall. Please see www.swinggoth.com for more information about these events.

There was also an article about Brian and Swing Goth in the Bay Area News Group papers by Laura Casey (I'm absolutely shocked that she would write an article about Goths... not. Ha ha.) which you can find at www.insidebayarea.com/ci_12723588. It's a good article that gives you an idea of what Swing Goth is like and how it came to be.

So if you arrive early on Friday, mosey on up to the upper level and let Brian show you how to partner dance Goth-style. Even if you're not dressed in black and wearing Doc Martens, I'm sure he'll give you a "goofy" wave and welcome the opportunity to teach you to dance! :-)

Lux-Killmore Entertainment presents an out of this world film, drag, burlesque and sideshow event, A Space ODDessy !, an evening of chicks, dicks and flicks. July is a time to look to the sky, is that a firework? Burning Bush? Maybe it's a group of aliens set to take over our disgusting little planet. Oh it's also Val's birthday...guess what, we'll be showing her favorite film; Edward D Wood Jr's "Plan 9 From Outer Space" July 12th @ 7:00 pm at The Stud.

About The Film: "Can your heart stand the shocking facts about Graverobbers from Outer Space?" That's the question on the lips of the narrator of this tale about flying saucers, zombies and cardboard tombstones. A pair of aliens, angered by the "stupid minds" of planet Earth, set up shop in a California cemetery. Their plan: to animate an army of the dead to march on the capitals of the world. (The fact that they have only managed to resurrect three zombies to date has not discouraged them.) An intrepid airline pilot living near the cemetery must rescue his wife from this low-budget terror. "Can you prove it *didn't* happen?" Written by David Thiel

Red Hots Burlesque invades Forbidden Island in Alameda on Thursday, July 9, 2009

Yes, it's true. Red Hots Burlesque is coming to Alameda! Dottie Lux often performs in Oakland. I guess she was scouting for a place to land her show!

The spot she's chosen is the Forbidden Island, Alameda's first and only Tiki Lounge (www.forbiddenislandalameda.com). Ooh. Sounds exotic!

According to the website, Forbidden Island hosts "no cover (so to speak)" live burleque shows. So this Thursday it'll be Red Hots Burlesque, with Lady Satan, Ruby White, and Dottie. Val Killmore will be the DJ. Next month will feature Hubba Hubba Revue!

And, hey, lookee! The media/booking contact is Will the Thrill of Thrillville (www.thrillville.net)! In case you haven't heard, the Speakeasy Theatres in Oakland and El Cerrito have closed. Aww. I saw some good shows at those theaters. But Will the Thrill and Monica Tiki Goddess will be taking the show on the road, appearing at the 4 Star Theater on July 23 for a Shatner tribute evening with Twillight Vixen Revue! See the calendar for details. :-)

Photobucket

And you don't have to wait til next Friday to see RHB again, because we're coming to you (if you live in the East Bay)!!! Red Hots are bringing you tropicial tiki titilation at arguably the best Tiki Lounge in the world. Forbidden Island is super cute and has the most extensive tropocal drink menu I have ever seen. Aaaaand they have loads of non-alcoholic drinks that are as tasty as could be. We'll be doing performances through out the night. So row your boat over the bay and come say mahalo to these sexy mamas! Shakin' their coconuts will be Ruby White, Lady Satan, Dottie Lux and bringing you all the radical tunage is Val Killmore.

First Friday Follies for Friday, July 3, 2009

It's now July, and the summer is flying by. It's time for back-to-school! Heh. I was in some Target stores recently and noticed that they've shipped out their patio furniture and replaced them with back-to-school stuff. Now they just need to get those Christmas items out on the floor....

But I'm getting ahead of even the discount stores! It's the beginning of July, which means that it's time for First Friday Follies (www.myspace.com/firstfridayfollies)! The East Bay's very own free burlesque show that coincides with Oakland's Art Murmur (www.oaklandartmurmur.com). Like many cities, Oakland's artists get together and have a night where the galleries are open late and there are all kinds of activities. Towards the end of the evening, the Stork Club hosts First Friday Follies where you can see some of the best burlesque acts in the Bay Area.

Here are all the details of the show from Cupcake:

Good Day, Ladies and Gents!
Well, June flew by and it's already time for the next installment of The Follies! We have such a fabulous line-up for you! The show starts at 9:30...The Stork Club is located at 2330 Telegraph Ave in Oakland. As usual, no cover charge but donations are highly encouraged (and necessary to keep our show runnin'!). We sure hope you can make it! Get there early or you may not be able to see very well!

Our Line-Up includes:

Emcee Margaret France!
Music by Mugg Muggles!
Bunny Pistol!
Little Eyeful!
Mable Sugar!
Miss Bella Trixx!
Sparkly Devil!
Monifa!
Ruby White!
Cupcake!
Lady Satan!

My, oh, my! It's gonna rule!!! See you there!
Smooches,
Cupcake

And Cupcake is not kidding about getting there early. The stage is at ground level, so the first few rows of people standing up will have a decent view of the happenings. Margaret France has been requesting that the first five or six rows of people sit, though, so more people have been able to see the stage. If she forgets, just ask her to make the request!
