San Francisco area burlesque for the week of July 27, 2009

Oh my! July is almost history. The summer is flying by so quickly! There's still some time to enjoy summer burlesque, though. In fact, this week is chock full of events to check out.

On Thursday, there's the big FEED FUN-draiser at the Climate Theater. Lots of prominent burlesquers will be there helping out Dottie Lux and Val Killmore raise funds to make their film, Feed. There'll be raffles, an art auction, and lots more!

And it appears that this will be the week of Kitty von Quimm! She'll be at Uptown Hubba Hubba on Monday, the aforementioned FEED event on Thursday, then she'll be appearing at JukeJoint! on Sunday. Goooo Kitty! :-)

So take a look at the calendar below and make plans to see some of your favorite shows, and perhaps check out some of the new shows. Enjoy!

  • Monday, July 27: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. Kingfish and Eddie welcome some performers making their debuts on the Uptown stage, and some performers from faraway lands... such as Seattle. Honey Lawless, Sparkly Devil, Electrikat, Cleoflaptra, Kitty von Quimm, Gigi d'Flower, Bunny Bardot (her debut!), Magestra, and Emperoar Fabulous from Seattle! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.

  • Thursday, July 30: FEED - The FUN-draiser at The Climate Theater in San Francisco, 285 Ninth Street. Help Lux Killmore Entertainment and Keptone Filmz raise funds for to produce their new film, Feed, while having an awesome good time! There will be raffle prizes, an art auction, bake sale, burlesque, films, and DJ ACE & Ruby White will host a special '60s dance party. Performers will include Kellita, Dottie Lux, Lady Monster, Kentucky Fried Woman, Steven Satyricon, Delilah, Kitty Von Quimm, Bunny Pistol, Honey Lawless, Lady Satan, Citty Rich, and recent School of Shimmy graduates Bunny Bardot, Trixie La Tourneau, Bitter Waitress and more! 7pm to midnight. $10 regular entry, $25 VIP entry. 21 and older.

  • Also Thursday: SF Songbird Festival presents...SOUL SHAKEDOWN at The Rickshaw Stop in SF, 155 Fell Street. Music featuring Lord Loves A Working Man, The Struts, and The Hi-Nobles. Plus The Devil-Ettes dancing before each band! 8pm. $10, all ages.

  • Friday, July 31: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in SF, 3158 Mission Street. Dottie Lux brings you a different show every single week! Each event promises the seductive and spicy, absurd and amusing all from local and visiting talent. Show at 7:30pm. $5-10 sliding scale, 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: Speakeasy Cabaret at Deco Lounge in SF, 510 Larkin Street. Relive the music, art and burlesque of a beautiful bygone era. Featuring the divinely decadent painted ladies and cabaret artwork of Teresa Moore. Produced & featuring performances by Meghan Rutigliano. Plus burlesque dancers, torch singers (including King TuffNStuff!), firespinners, gambling, and $3 Depression era drink specials by Damrack! 9pm to 2am. $10 if dressed in 1920s swanky clothes, $15 if not. Cover includes gambling chips, 21 and older.

  • Saturday, August 1: Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, 1621 Telegraph Avenue. Hot Pink Feathers and Blue Bone Express perform approximately three sets apiece. Doors at 8:30pm, show at 9:30 sharp. $10, 21+ w/ID.

  • Sunday, August 2: JukeJoint! at Vibe Lounge in Oakland, 2272 Telegraph Avenue. Join cohosts Alotta Boutte and Juicy D. Light for a show that that will raise proceeds to help Rubenesque Burlesque go on their East Coast Tour! Starring Simone de la Getto, Kitty von Quimm, Monifa, Lolli POP, Frida B., and more! Doors at 6pm, show 7 to 9. $10-$5 donations sliding scale, 21 and older.
