Christmas week is here, so that means that there won't be many shows this week and next. But that doesn't mean that there won't be any at all!
If you're still in town and would like to check out some hot burlesque and comedy to warm your Wednesday night, The Polk Street Lounge is here to satisfy your cravings. There are some top-notch comedians scheduled to perform, including
Mary Van Note, recipient of a 2010 SF Weekly Masterminds grant. Not to mention you get to see and appreciate
sASSy Hotbuns,
Mynx d'Meanor,
Bunny Pistol, and
Miss Mae Western! Oh yeah! It all goes down at the
Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk Street in San Francisco starting at 9:00 p.m.
A lot of people are taking Christmas off, but not Baxtalo Drom. No sirree!
Sister Kate's show will be trooping on as they plan to welcome in Christmas Day at
Amnesia in the Mission! Not only will you get to celebrate the holiday, but you'll be able to groove to the mixes of
DJ Wolfgang von Cope (check out his
"If I Were a Hobo" mix!), be amazed by the knife-throwing skills of Molotov, stomp your feet to the blues and roots music of
Devine's Jug Band, and be entertained by the emcee, punk rock polka goddess
Esmeralda Strange! Amnesia is located at 853 Valencia Street, and the festivities start at 9:00 p.m. Arrive before 10:00 and get in for just $5.00!
Last but not least, the award-winning
Hubba Hubba Revue's weekly show at the
Uptown Nightclub in Oakland will be happening as usual on Monday night. It really is the best value in entertainment in the Bay Area that evening at just $5.00! For not much moolah, you'll get to see such talent as
Mynx d'Meanor, Vera DeVille,
Miss Bella Trixx, Texas the Clown, belly dancers Lisa Hyde and
Monifa, and you'll marvel at the Hubba Hubba Revue debut of Scandahoovian hypnotist The Amazing Sven Golli! The Uptown is located at 1928 Telegraph Avenue, right on the same block as the Sears and an entrance to the 19th Street BART station.
Have friends and family in town and don't know what to do with them? Take them out to a real burlesque show! It's good to get out of the house while learning about an art form that's in the midst of a revival. They'll thank you for it!
