Bettie Blackheart and Frank Doggenstein at Uptown Hubba Hubba on Monday, May 31

This coming Monday, Bettie Blackheart and Frank Doggenstein of Helsinki Burlesque will be performing at the Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland!

They are the founders of Helsinki Burlesque (Burleski!), and are visiting our fine region from Finland. This will be a great opportunity to see the first couple of Finnish burlesque!

Also performing on Monday will be Displayed Labors Sideshow! From what I've read, their performances are not for the squeamish! Hooks, piercings, blood, aerialists, burlesque, sword-swallowers... these have been part of their shows. There was a report of someone fainting at an appearance once. It should be something to see!

And let's not forget Kiss Me Kate! It's her last performance in the Bay Area before she leaves to perform in Las Vegas to perform Thursday at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend, so I'm guessing that she'll be tuning up her BHOF act Monday. So cheer her on before she jets off to represent the Bay Area in Vegas!

There will also be a slew of other acts on Monday, including the Twilight Vixen Revue and Miss Mae Western. For all of the acts appearing, it's a real burly-bargain! And you'll not find a better time on a Monday night in Oakland!

Howdy Friends!

What more perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day than a SEXY night of BURLESQUE! Comedy! and Astounding Sideshow Performers! Hubba Hubba Revue has all that and more this coming MONDAY NIGHT! Come on down and join in the fun with...

San Francisco Carnaval Grand Parade on Sunday, May 30

The Bay Area's fabulous Hot Pink Feathers will be participating in the SF Carnaval Grand Parade this Sunday, May 30, which will take place in the Mission District on 24th and Mission Streets starting at 9:30am.

The Hot Pink Feathers have been a mainstay of the parade for years. Their exuberant dancing and colorful costumes make them a crowd favorite!

If you plan to see the parade, make sure you take along some sunblock, some layered clothing to prepare for various weather conditions, and perhaps a snack and water. Plus bring along a camera to take some pictures! The kick-off starts at 9:30, so you'll want to get there by then to get a good viewing spot along the route. The Feathers will also be at their staging spot at 2268 Bryant starting at 8am if you'd like to get some still pictures with them and say hello.

To get an idea of what the parade is like, you may view some videos at Carnavaldreaming.com featuring the Hot Pink Feathers.

Have a good weekend! :-)

PIP SQUEAK A GO GO CURE JM BENEFIT!

Presented by The Devil-Ettes and Baby Doe Productions this event is a BENEFIT for the Cure JM Foundation (www.curejm.org), which hopes to find a cure for Juvenile Myositis, an extremely rare autoimmune disease. In particular, this is a benefit in the name of Mielle Gonzalez, a 8-year-old Alamedan who was diagnosed with JM at the age of 5. Since then, she has endured treatment involving powerful drugs that come with major, horrible side effects, including terrible headaches and nausea, excessive weight gain, wild rages and mood swings. Her life now involves regular blood draws, intravenous drug treatments, and trips to a specialist in Chicago.

Shockingly, for a disease that strikes 3 children out of one million, there are now THREE known cases of juvenile dermatomyositis in Alameda. Cure JM provides invaluable support to these local families and others like them, and funds research into better treatments and ultimately a CURE for this dreaded disease. You can read more about Mielle and her story here: www.mielle-jdm.blogspot.com

and you may have wept profusely when presented with two free tickets to Bring It On: Fight to the Finish...

Well kids, that kind of down-to-the-wire, nail-biting, will-they-make-it kind drama is NOTHING compared to the Cock-Ts quest to make Nationals! Ok, wait, make that Regionals, but we're calling it Nationals because it's STILL a popularity contest, and totally STILL mega important! Duh!

Witness the tragedy and triumph May 13th at the Rockit-Room. Allow your mind to explode with sass and cheeritude as The Cock-Ts and Friends Go to Nationals!!!!

What is Dr Sketchy's?

Dr Sketchy's is an international drawing phenomenon.

Dr. Sketchy's is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question. Why can't drawing naked people be sexy?

In San Francisco, Dr Sketchy's gives you a monthly opportunity to draw rhinestone encrusted burlesque performers, bearded ladies, cute girls on bicycles and anything else we can conjure up to tantalize your pencils.
