I'm predicting that the film will do pretty well. The box office prognosticators are putting Burlesque's opening weekend (Wednesday through Sunday) at about $20 million. I'll say it will pull in a few million more. There's something to be said for a film around the holidays in which no one dies, there's lots of eye candy, and it doesn't make you think too much.
But out here in the real world, there's real burlesque happening! Yes, even during Thanksgiving week!
On Wednesday, Hubba Hubba Revue will be participating in Bondage A-Go-Go's Sleazy Speakeasy 17th Anniversary Party and Roaring Twenties Costume Gala. The Hubba's portion of the show will be from 10:45 to 11:30, and the event will be have it's own BAGG dress code. Check out the details below.
Red Hots Burlesque has their show on Friday at their usual spot at El Rio in San Francisco. This week, The Flying Fox visits from New York City, Fannie Fuller of Portland, and Uni and her Ukelele will take time from touring to perform on the El Rio stage. Also appearing will be Virginia Suicide and RHB's Dottie Lux!
Baxtalo Drom will be having their monthly show, the Lucky Road, again at Amnesia Bar in the Mission, and this time they'll be welcoming Dottie Lux fresh from her own show! So get ready for some swamp buggy swing on Friday night with visiting performers from Tokyo and London!
Then on Monday night, check out the weekly Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland. It's only $5.00, and it will feature some great performers such as The Stripping Granny, Revolva from Portland, Bunny VonTail, Bitter Waitress, and more!
So gather your belongings as you leave the movie theater, toss the popcorn and drink cups into the trash, then head on over to the bars and clubs of the Bay Area for some real-world burlesque!
