San Francisco area burlesque for the week of August 17, 2009

Ah, the summer is almost over, but you've still got a chance to celebrate the middle season of the year!

Yes, attend camp at Hubba Hubba Revue's Lake Tittihaha for their show, Summer Camp! It'll all take place this Friday at the DNA Lounge. And don't forget their show in Oakland at the Uptown on Monday. It'll be Bombshell Betty's Burlesqueteer Night!

Need to get some sketching in before fall? Want a live model? Well, you can't get any livelier than Kitten on the Keys! She'll be the model performer at this month's Dr. Sketchy's San Francisco on Monday at 111 Minna Gallery. Even if you're not an artist, you can watch her perform and hang out at the bar for free.

In the mood for some science fiction flicks with your burlesque? Catch Thrillville on Thursday at the 4 Star Theater in SF! You'll see Red Hots Burlesque in addition to "Missile to the Moon" and "The Devil's Hand." Will the Thrill and Monica Tiki Goddess will be your hosts. And don't forget to catch Red Hots Burlesque's regular show on Friday at El Rio!

Filling out this week is Mama Calizo's Crash Cabaret, When Queers Collide: Tranny Noise - Trans Music at Yerba Buena Gardens on Friday. See perfomers such as Landa Lakes as they take over Yerba Buena!

• Monday, August 17: Dr. Sketchy's San Francisco at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, 111 Minna Street. One of the all-time great burlesque performers is this month's model: Kitten on the Keys! It's a rare opportunity to sketch her in a fun environment, plus see her perform! 7-10pm. $10 general admission for sketchers, $7 for students and teachers with valid ID, and free for those who won't be sketching and want to hang out at the bar. 21 and older.t
  


• Also Monday: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. August nights get even hotter when Bombshell Betty brings her sultry Burlesqueteers to the Uptown Club for another evening of singin', dancin' an' romancin'! Featuring live jazzy brass by Fromagique! Starring Bombshell Betty, Red Velvet, Sneak-A-Peek, The AMAZING Coconuts, If-N-Whendy, and your guest MC, Randy Johnson! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.


• Thursday, August 20: Thrillville's Satanic Sci-Fi Schlock-O-Rama at 4 Star Theater in San Francisco, 2200 Clement Street. See the live retro-rocket heat of Red Hots Burlesque! Also featuring rare 35mm prints of MISSILE TO THE MOON (1958). The remake of Catwomen of the Moon - meaning it's even worse, and funnier! Lunar lovelies vs horny astronauts, spider puppets & more! • Friday, August 21: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in SF, 3158 Mission Street. Dottie Lux brings you a different show every single week! Each event promises the seductive and spicy, absurd and amusing all from local and visiting talent. Show at 7:30pm. $5-10 sliding scale, 21+ w/ID.


• Also Friday: Where Queers Collide - Tranny Noise: Trans Music at Yerba Buena Gardens in SF, 701 Mission Street. Trannies take over Yerba Buena! Curated by Tranny Fest, TRANNY NOISE features some of the Bay Area's leading trans and genderqueer artists including Storm Florez, Landa Lakes, Josh Klipp, ButchTap and Shawna Virago.
