SF Bay Area burlesque for the week of April 27, 2009

Looking over the calendar, this is gonna be one very busy week for all of us fans of burlesque in the San Francisco Bay Area!

From the regular events of Dr. Sketchy's SF, Uptown Hubba Hubba, and Red Hots Burlesque, to the return of Madame Maraschino's House of Burlesque and Swing Goth's Second Anniversary, there's a slew of shows to choose from the whole week through. So check out this listing and add some shows to your calendar!

  • Monday, April 27, 2009: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. It's an all-star lineup for the show that bids April adieu! Join your host Mr. Eddie Dane and burlesquers Sparkly Devil, Miss Balla Fire, Madam Chartreuse, Josie Starre, The Riff Ditties Orchestra, Kiss Me Kate, Honey LeBang, and Miss Mae Western! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Monday: Dr. Sketchy's SF at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, 111 Minna Street. Bring your sketchpad and join Devil-Ettes The Glamazon, The Sugar Snap and The Knockout as they model and perform for you! Or you can attend and meet with artist Eric Joyner, creator of the book "Robots and Donuts." It's all good! 7 to 10pm. $10 general, $7 students, free if you hang out at the bar with Eric. 21+ w/ID.

  • Tuesday, April 28: Mixed Level World Cabaret Carnaval Class and Open Rehearsal w/Hot Pink Feathers at The Ballet Studio in SF, 128 10th Street. Curious about how the Hot Pink Feathers learn their moves and rehearse them? As part of Bay Area National Dance Week, you can observe a class and a rehearsal for free! Class is from 7:30 to 8:30, rehearsal from 8:30 to 10:30.

  • Also Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29: SF Boylesque's Das Kabarett: RECESS-I$-ON at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory in SF, 1519 Mission Street. In a time of budget cuts and global economic crisis, Boylesque is throwing caution to the wind and staging their largest show yet. More dancers, more singers, more musicians, more flesh, more laughs add up to equal more fun for all! Doors at 7:30pm, show at 8. $20-25 tickets at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/58468. 18 and older only.

  • Thursday, April 30: Swing Goth 2nd Anniversary w/Lee Presson and the Nails in association with Hubba Hubba Revue at DNA Lounge in SF, 375 11th Street. Swing Goth is celebrating 2 years, and proving that sometimes it takes an anniversary to make the perfect marriage. Lee Presson and the Nails (the only sinister swing band) and Swing Goth are together at last!! Also on the bill: Fromagique (just consider them Swing Cheese) and San Francisco's best new goth band... The Deephearted! Doors at 7:30pm. Tickets are $16 door and $12 in advance at http://www.dnalounge.com/. All ages!

  • Also Thursday: Intro to World Cabaret Carnaval Dance Class and Expression, Craft and Delight Class w/Hot Pink Feathers at the Ballet Studio in San Francisco, 128 10th Street. Curious about how the Hot Pink Feathers learn their moves and rehearse them? As part of Bay Area National Dance Week, you can observe a class and a dance lab for free!   • Friday, May 1: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. Dottie Lux brings you a different show every single week! Each event promises the seductive and spicy, absurd and amusing all from local and visiting talent. Show at 7:30pm. $5-10 sliding scale, 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: Sugar Shack at DNA Lounge in SF, 375 11th Street. Join host Kingfish for a Swingin' 60's Pajama Party! Featuring burlesque, go-go beauties, and enough garage rock, girl-groups and R'n'B to keep you dancin' all night long! Starring DJs Sergio Iglesias (Teenage Dance Craze), Matt Bonar (1964), and Russell Quann (The Mummies) in the main room. Plus burlesque and more, with Lady Satan, Ruby White, Runaround Sue, Pin Key Lee and Miss Mae Western! Doors at 9pm, things t'do til late. $10 in street clothes;
    $7 in pajamas or before 11pm, 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: First Friday Follies at The Stork Club in Oakland, 2330 Telegraph Avenue. Join that wascally wabbit Margaret France as she hosts another FFF. Featuring sASSy Hotbuns, Sparkly Devil, debut performance by Sheba, musical stylings of The Fucking Buckaroos, debut performance by Bootsy La Rue, and Amateur Hour boylesque, Matt Holdaway, Cupcake and Little Eyeful, and BB Dahl, hot-ass pick-up artist! Doors at 8pm, show at 9. Free, but donations welcome. 21+ w/ID.

  • Saturday, May 2: Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, 1621 Telegraph Avenue. The Hot Pink Feathers & Blue Bone Express continue to paint Oakland an new shade of Pink & Blue for our ever hot and happening Burlesque n' Brass show at Cafe Van Kleef! Doors at 8:30pm, show at 9:30. $10, 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Saturday: Madame Maraschino Presents House of Burlesque at Bender's Bar and Grill in SF, 806 South Van Ness Avenue. Madame Maraschino Is Back! Presenting the once obsolete and now most anticipated rockin burlesque show... HOUSE OF BURLESQUE! With Mistress BLUE DIEMOND as Seductress of Ceremonies and performances by Lady Monster, Honey Lawless, Ruby White, Miss de Minna, Pin Key Lee, Josie Starr, Riff Ditties Orchestra, Guinevere Q & Douche Magoo with special guests!!! And DJ Chris Cook of KUSF! Doors at 9pm, show at 10. (No word on the cover charge, but it used to be $8.) 21+ w/ID.

  • Sunday, May 3: Cabaret de Nude at The Stud in SF, Vixen Noir and Simone de la Getto have teamed up to create GettoNoir Productions, purveyors of lezzi, queer girl and tranny entertainment! This will be the last show until September, as they will be going on hiatus! Doors at 6pm, show at 7:30. $8 bef 7; $10 after, 21+ w/ID.
