San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for August 4 - August 10, 2011

It looks like there are shows every evening this week! Hooray!

And there's a variety of shows to choose from, too. From lube wresting and burlesque at Go Deep on Thursday at El Rio, to science fiction burlesque at First Friday Follies at the Stork Club, to Kentucky Fried Woman's Tap That Ass: An All Tap-Dance Revue on Sunday at the Bench and Bar, you can gain an appreciation of the diversity in burlesque by attending the different shows happening around our area.

There are also a variety of venues which host the shows, too. From bars, to clubs, to theaters, it's always fascinating to see how the surroundings influence the shows. And although there are a core group of burlesque fans who travel to different shows, each venue seems to come with its own audience of regulars.

• Thursday, August 4: Red Hots Burlesque and El Rio presents "Go Deep: Let's Wrestle!" at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). • Friday, August 5: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). Come with your sense of humor, get ready to enter the pink bubble. Red Hots Burlesque brings you the "city's best" bump and grind at the "happiest hour" in the bay! Performances by Lance Armstar and the Katy Perry Sleepover, Sabine Libertine, La Chica Boom, Dottie Lux, and the long awaited return of sASSy Hotbuns! 7:30pm. $5 to $10, sliding scale. 21+.
  


• Also Friday: The Haight Street Hop at The Milk Bar in San Francisco, 1840 Haight Street (map). Handsome Hawk Valentine wants you to know that The Haight Street Hop is THEE Place to Shimmy & Shake on Friday, August 5th at The Milk Bar SF! Los Shimmy Shakers will provide LIVE bump n grind style instrumentation for titillating Burlesque & GoGo performances by Bunny Pistol, Mistress Marla Spankx, Mae Western, Red Velvet, Josie Starre, & TnT Vixen! • Saturday, August 6: Sin Sisters Burlesque at the Catalyst Club - Atrium in Santa Cruz, 1011 Pacific Avenue (map). The Devil's Secretaries arranged for the night off to bring you ALL THEIR DIRTY LOVIN! Join SIN SISTERS BURLESQUE and a culled bevy of exquisite guests! Doors 9pm, show at 10pm. • Also Saturday: Teatro ZinZanni presents Cabaret Lunatique’s “Celebrate Haight-Ashbury” at Teatro ZinZanni's Spiegeltent in San Francisco, Pier 29 The Embarcadero (At Battery Street, map). Teatro ZinZanni will host an evening of art, music, dance and “peace, love and understanding” with the premiere of Cabaret Lunatique’s “Celebrate Haight-Ashbury” on Saturday, August 6. Let your inner bohemian run free and experience a late night varieté featuring local artists that is spiced with saucy cabaret, crazed circus, scandal, music and mayhem – all held in the gorgeous Spiegeltent on Pier 29. The evening will showcase local talent including Teatro ZinZanni magician Brandon Rabe, accomplished six-ball juggler Thomas John, aerialists Cameron McHenry and Marina Luna, all-women clown troupe Circus Finelli, contortionist Nancy Kate Siefker and music from the band Aaron Glass and Friends. • Sunday, August 7: Kentucky Fried Woman Presents Tap That Ass: An All Tap-Dance Revue at Bench and Bar in Oakland, 510 17th Street (map). If you love Tap dancing, then you will really not want to miss this extremely unique event! • Tuesday, August 9: Séduction Féroce at Era Art Bar and Lounge in Oakland, 19 Grand Avenue (map). Séduction Féroce is a burlesque cabaret variety show that happens EVERY second Tuesday of the month! Doors open at 8pm and show starts at 9pm. This month we have a great line-up of performers to tantalize your taste buds. A stage kitten, Holly Honey Pocket, that will make you like your bowl of milk clean. And the evening will be hosted by the glorious and fabulous Miss Alotta Boutte!!! The man that'll be keeping the show on flow is DJ gravedigger! Bombshell Betty and her Burlesqueteers bring you a tribute to all things Hollywood, including: Jurassic Park, Lebowski, Scarlet Ohara, Marilyn Monroe, Clue, Peter Pan, James Bond, and more! • Wednesday, August 10: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). Join Dottie Lux for Red Hots Burlesque as it expands to its second day of the week! A new and different show twice a week, including bizarre beauties, senseless sideshow, drag, burlesque and comedy! 7:30pm. $5 to $10, sliding scale. 21+.
