Dr. Sketchy's East Bay, Burlesque n' Brass, and Le Boy events in Oakland today, Saturday, May 14

We're back, and Blogger seems to have returned with not too much damage from their outage that ended yesterday. The last post was restored, and some odd symbols have been inserted into the tags. But all seems well, otherwise. Now on to the burlesque!

Today, Red Hots Burlesque bring Dr. Sketchy to Oakland. It's time for their second session at the Layover Lounge, which is located at 1517 Franklin Street (map). The session is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. But get there early for a good spot to draw! And remember, Dr. Sketchy's East Bay happens every second Saturday of the month.

What is Dr. Sketchy's? It's an opportunity to draw using live figure models, usually burlesque performers, derby girls, drag queens, or fetish models. It's all done in a fun atmosphere with music, drinks from the bar, and contests! If you've been to Dr. Sketchy's in San Francisco, you know how fun and popular those events are. Now they're starting out in Oakland, where there are actually seats available... for now. Be one of the first to discover the fun live figure drawing with Dr. Sketchy's in Oakland!

Here's a video from last month's event. There's also another good video and article at OaklandNorth. Check 'em out!

This month's model will be Oakland's own burlesque dearie, Honey Lawless! Here is the information for this month's event.

Burlesque Life Drawing Comes to Oakland!
When many artists think "life drawing," they think of sterile rooms, bad lighting, and bored, silent, models with nary a hint of personality. Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School is here to change all that.

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School is the little New York art event that became a movement. Started in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, the concept is simple. Artist's draw glamorous burlesque dancers, compete in contests, and win wacky prizes. From it's humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy's now has nearly 70 branches around the globe, including Hollywood, London, Rome, Tokyo, and Melbourne.

Now, Red Hots Burlesque are bringing Dr. Sketchy's to Oakland. The monthly sessions will feature burlesque babes, roller derby girls , drag queens and fetish models, along with contests, prizes and drinks galore.

Since it's inception in '05, Dr. Sketchy's has received coverage from the likes of The LA Times, The Washington Post, BBC Radio, NPR, The Village Voice, WNBC, Time Out London, Time Out New York, and The New Yorker.
