San Francisco area burlesque for August 18 to August 24, 2010

Again this week, there's more than a few shows from which to choose.

The Femme2010 Conference (see previous post) is happening this weekend! Yes, starting Friday, there will be workshops and performances happening in Oakland. Even if you don't attend the conference itself, you'll be able to see the shows on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Oakland Metro Operahouse for a modest ticket price. The shows will feature many performers from the Bay Area, plus some visiting luminaries such as Miss Indigo Blue of Seattle, Vagina Jenkins of Atlanta, and Sweet LillyBee of Minneapolis.

Also happening this weekend is the SF Body Art Expo! You may have seen the billboards and ads around the Bay Area, but this year's Expo will feature something new: a burlesque show. The Friday show produced and emceed by Eva von Slut will be at 6:30 p.m., and the Saturday show will be at 5 p.m. Burlesque and tattoos all under the gigantic roof of the Cow Palace. Don't miss it!

• Thursday, August 19: 1st Annual Team In Training Variety Show at Broadway Studios in San Francisco, 435 Broadway. Featuring unique acts, all hosted by the Bay Area’s own Fernando & Greg the Gay Sportscaster from Movin 99.7! With performances by burlesque dancers Cherry Bottom, Bitter Waitress, and Sugar Main! Cabret singing from Jessica, comedy by Jake, award-winning jump roping by Derek, and Turkish dancing! Live music from Brandon Cobb and Strong Like Bull - 80s Cover Band! Also, burlesque photographer Johnny Crash will be there to capture you and the performers! Get out that outfit you have been wanting wear and glam it up for a night out! Doors at 7pm, show at 8. $15.
  


• Friday, August 20: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. This Friday, it's Bunny Pistol's birthday celebration at Red Hots! Featuring sASSy Hotbuns, Miss Mae Western, Virginia Suicide, Delilah, Dottie and the birthday babe herself, Bunny Pistol! Show at 7:30pm. $5-10, sliding scale. 21+ w/ID.


• Also Friday: Femme2010's Friday Night Lights at Oakland Metro Operahouse in Oakland, 630 3rd Street. Learn to two-step, enjoy the performance artistry of Nicky Click, then thrill to some of the best burlesque performers in the country, including Dottie Lux, Ruby Vixen, Lady Monster, Vagina Jenkins, Cherry Galette, Pidgeon von Tramp, and Alotta Boutté. Plus many others! With your FeMCs Rosie Lugosi & Bevin Brandlandingham. 9pm. Free for Femme 2010 Conference attendees, $10 for the general public.
  


• Also Friday and Saturday: S.F. Body Art Expo's First Ever Burlesque Show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, 2600 Geneva Avenue. Miss Eva von Slut presents the first-ever burlesque show at San Francisco's Body Art Expo! With performances by Dottie Lux, Bunny Pistol. Sparkly Devil, Ophelia Coeur de Noir, and Honey Lawless. Friday show at 6:30pm. Saturday show at 5pm. $22 for one-day ticket, $45 for three-day weekend pass. 18 and older for Friday and Saturday.


• Saturday, August 21: Red Hots Burlesque Presents Special Addiction at Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco, 1519 Mission Street. It's a very special Saturday edition of Red Hots Burlesque, with a very special guest: a bachelorette! So join the party, and see La Chica Boom, Lady Satan, Delilah, Dottie Lux, and Bitter Waitress shake and shimmy on a Saturday night! 9pm. $5.


• Also Saturday: Femme2010's Glitterati: An Evening of Fierce Femme Sparkling Entertainment at Oakland Metro Opera House in Oakland, 630 3rd Street. Join the Femme Conference for an amazing evening of belly-dancing, burlesque, drag, music, spoken word & stand-up performances by Femmes from near and far! You will not want to miss the amazing evening of entertainment! Featuring Rosie Lugosi from Manchester, England! With such special guests as Miss Indigo Blue, Alysia Angel, Sweet LillyBee, Amelia Mae Paradise, Ginger Snapz & Cherry Tart, and many, many more! With your Co-FeMC's Alotta Boutté & Kentucky Fried Woman! 8pm. Free for Femme 2010 Conference attendees, $15 for the general public.


• Also Saturday: Original Sin Burlesque at Sanctuary Ultra Lounge in Livermore, 2369 First Street. Join Original Sin Burlesque at Sanctuary Ultra Lounge for one of many third-Saturday burlesque shows. Enjoy great drinks and tapas... and of course, the gals of Original Sin Burlesque! 10pm. $5, 21 and older.


• Monday, August 23: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. Bombshell Betty and Fromgique wrap up their West Coast Tour at the Uptown Club this coming Monday! They're bringing a boatload of talented performers with them, including Bombshell Betty, Red Velvet, If-N-Whendy, Bootsy La Rue, Nirvanah Bliss, Lezzie McFaggerson, Vadge O'Fonor, Dangerous Delilah, Tasty Temptress, Sweet Praline, Mistress Marla Spanks, and Cinnamon Stick. From Los Angeles, you'll see Lucille Highball and Honey Ima Home! With live music from Fromgique, and guest vocals from Sweet Praline. Your emcees for the evening will be A. Randy Johnson and Patina DeCopper. Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15. $5, 21+ w/ID.
