San Francisco area burlesque for March 31 to April 6, 2010

Oh, boy! This looks like the week for nerd fun! WonderCon 2010 is coming up this weekend, and the comics are infiltrating the burlesque shows!

For example, Fishnet Follies is joining with Swing Goth to bring you Ball of Justice and Comic Strip at the DNA Lounge on Friday. Some of your favorite burlesquers will be performing as your favorite comic book heroes and villains! Plus, there will be live music with The Phenomenauts and Grammy-nominated Los Straightjackets! I'm guessing lots of WonderCon attendees will be there!

First Friday Follies is also going with a science fiction theme in the East Bay on Friday, too. Seems they're using Star Trek terms in their show description, and one of their musical guests is The Final Frontiersmen. Boldly go!

The Kentucky Fried Woman Show at the Stork Club in Oakland on Saturday is called "Animation Nation," and they're saying that you may see performances including characters like the Powerpuff Girls, Roger Rabbit, etc. It looks like it'll be "toontastic!"

• Friday, April 2: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. Join host Dottie Lux for a raunchy celebration of April Fools! With performances by Dottie Lux, Spy Girlfriday, Alotta Boutte, Virginia Suicide, La Rena Rose and Lindsay B Jones, and visiting from the east...KRAZY KANZ!. Show at 7:30pm. $5-10, sliding scale. 21+ w/ID.


• Also Friday: Fishnet Follies and Ball of Justice at DNA Lounge in San Francisco, 375 Eleventh Street. How about a super hero themed burlesque show? Fishnet Follies Burlesque Revue presents COMIC STRIP! Starring Bunny Pistol, Casey Castille, Flame Cynders, Kiss Me Kate, Lady Satan, and Mynx d'Meanor! With special guest Dizzy Von Damn (Miss Viva Las Vegas 2008)! The night is headlined by Grammy nominated Los Straightjackets! These surf rockin' do-gooders lead the never-ending fight for your right to party! They will be joined by The Phenomenauts, whose ship is powered by a rock'n'roll super-collider that smashes Rockabilly particles headlong into New Wave sound. Early in the evening, there will be dance lessons by Swing Goth, and DJ dancing later. • Also, also Friday: First Friday Follies at The Stork Club in Oakland, 2330 Telegraph Avenue. They've got talents that boldly show where no man has gone before and a prime directive to rock the eff out. With musical guests Victoria and the Vaudvillains and The Final Frontiersmen! Performances from The Twilight Vixen Revue, Pin Key Lee, Cupcake and Little Eyeful, and Bitter Waitress! Plus a special birthday edition of Amateur Hour! Hostessed by the Follies own Margaret France! Cleaned and preened by the stunning BB Dahl! Show at 9:30pm. No cover, but donations welcome. 21+ w/ID.


• Saturday, April 3: The Kentucky Fried Woman Show: Animation Nation at Velvet in Oakland, 3411 MacArthur Blvd. Join a celebration of your favorite animated characters, cartoons, shows & movies! You might see the Powerpuff Girls, Roger Rabbit, Chef, Daria, the Little Mermaid, the Lion King and a host of other celebrated animated friends. Starring Starr69, Dottie Lux, Brock Cocker. Phat Fly Girls, Juicy D. Light, Kitty von Quim, MuLotta TaTas, Cherry Poppins, Sugarbush Lane, Diamond Daggers, Ocean of Emotion, and The Mustache Boys. • Also Saturday: Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, 1621 Telegraph Avenue. Join the Hot Pink Feathers and Blue Bone Express for some Showgirl Samba and Dixieland jazz. Doors at 8:30pm, show at 9:30. $10, 21+ w/ID.
  


• Monday, April 5: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. Join the Hubbas as they throw a bachelor/bachelorette party for their pals Niki and Josh! With performances by Sparkly Devil, Bunny Pistol, Miss Mae Western, Gretl von Boom-Boom, Kiss Me Kate, Kliff Jerk, Comrade Tang, and your hosts, Kingfish & Eddie! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.
