San Francisco area burlesque for February 3 to February 9, 2010

It looks like setting up this weekly burlesque show summary to start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday will work out better. There are very few shows on Tuesday, so posting on Tuesday would seem to make more sense. We'll go with it and see how it works out!

This week features some way cool shows! From the Hubba Hubba Revue show at Cobb's Comedy Club, to Kitten on the Keys appearing at the Pre-Code Follies in Niles, to the First Friday Follies' second anniversary show, to the return of the Kentucky Fried Woman Show at Velvet, there's a wide spectrum of performances to choose from. Add in the usual weekly and monthly shows, and there's enough to keep Bay Area burlesque fans happy!

  • Thursday, February 4: Hubba Hubba Revue stage-play at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco, 915 Columbus Avenue. See a scripted play about staging a burlesque show in one of San Francisco's most historic comedy clubs. Starring Wiggy Darlington, Sid Scenic, Bunny Pistol, McPuzo & Trotsky, Pin Key Lee, Miss Information, Zip the What-Is-It, and Kingfish & Eddie! Doors at 7pm, show at 8. $15.50 general seating, two drink minimum. 18 and older w/ID.

  • Friday, February 5: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. Kick off your February right with the best happy hour around and scintillating performances by Alotta Boutté, Isis Starr, Nikki Sparx, Dottie Lux, La Rena Rose & Lindsey B. Jones!!! Show at 7:30pm. $5-10, sliding scale. 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: Pre-Code Follies with Kitten on the Keys at Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum in Fremont, 37417 Niles Boulevard. Film curator Paul Etcheverry has some great hidden film clips including Zazu Pitts, Betty Boop shorts, and Busby Berkeley! See them in Niles, where Charlie Chaplin made many of his films! Star of burlesque Kitten on the Keys plays naughty tunes from the 1920's and 1930's- rare hard to find musical numbers! 8:30pm. $12 general, $10 for museum members.

  • Also, also Friday: First Friday Follies at the Stork Club in Oakland, 2330 Telegraph Avenue. See First Friday Follies' two year anniversary show with emcee Margaret France! Starring Vera DeVille, Cupcake, Little Eyeful, Francine Dead. Mugg Muggles, sASSy Hotbuns, Dottie Lux, and The Bombshells! Show at 9:30. No cover, but donations are very welcome. 21+ w/ID.

  • Saturday, February 6: Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, 1621 Telegraph Avenue. Featuring the Hot Pink Feathers and Blue Bone Express! Doors at 8:30pm, show at 9:30 sharp. $10, 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Saturday: The Kentucky Fried Woman Show: Rock of Love at Velvet in Oakland, 3411 MacArthur Blvd. Hear the best of rock and roll, see the best of Bay Area burlesque! Featuring Dottie Lux, Rusty Hips, Cody & Pete, Lady Monster, Juicy D. Light, Bitter Waitress, Kitty von Quim, Rod Manchester, Jay Walker & Delicio del Toro!
    And special guest, all the way from Seattle, the one and only Pidgeon von Tramp! Doors at 8:30pm, show at 9:30. $10, 21+ w/ID.

  • Monday, February 8: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. Prepare for Valentine's Day by taking your sweetie to see Kingfish and Eddie at the Uptown! Well, you'll also want to carefully watch Kiss Me Kate, Eva Valentina, Monifa, Pin Key Lee, and from Reno, Vivi Ennui! Plus a special troupe performance by Jellyfish Kiss! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.
