Kitten on the Keys at Precode Follies this Friday, February 5, 2010

Renowned burlesque performer Kitten on the Keys will be performing this Friday, February 5, at the Pre-Code Follies. All of the fun will take place at the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum in Fremont.

Kitten on the Keys has toured the US and Canada with Devotchka and Catherine D'Lish, the Teaseorama Roadshow, and opened for legendary punk band The DAMNED on the Twisted Cabaret Tour UK 2007, and was the guest of honor at the First Paris Burlesque Festival,. She has MC'd for Exotic World/Burlesque Hall of Fame and the New Orleans Burlesque Fest. She also recently performed with Cabaret New Burlesque in a French film "TOURNEE" (2010) with award winning actor and director Mattieu Almaric. Kitten was also awarded a Best of The Bay Award for singing and songwriting by the San Francisco Bay Guardian in 2009!

On Friday, Kitten will be playing some rare, naughty songs from the 1920s and '30s. It will be a treat for everyone who appreciates old-time films, saucy songs, and quirky cartoons.

The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum proudly presents a night of music, comedy and outrageous movie fun hosted by celebrated San Francisco based entertainer Kitten on the Keys. This pop culture slice n’ dice - early 1930’s style, will feature surreal cartoons (Betty Boop),Busby Berkeley clips, wacky comedies, and indescribably odd novelty shorts from the Pre-Code era. The Bay Area’s own award winning “It Girl” will perform genuine songs from the late 20’s and early 30’s on piano and ukulele.

  • ANY RAGS (1932) Fleischer Talkartoon featuring Betty Boop
  • STRATOS-FEAR (1933) Willie Whopper cartoon, directed by Grim Natwick
  • THE WORLD'S AFFAIR (1933) Scrappy cartoon, directed by Dick Huemer
  • A CROOK'S TOUR (1933) Hal Roach "All-Star" Comedy featuring Douglas Wakefield, Baby Alice and numerous thuggy-looking character actors
  • YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING (1931) Merrie Melodie cartoon (#3 in the series), directed by Rudolf Ising
  • RED NOSES (1932) Hal Roach Comedy co-starring Zasu Pitts and Thelma Todd
  • Excerpts from DANCING LADY (1933) and FOOTLIGHT PARADE (1933)
Film Curator:
Paul Etcheverry has been producing classic movie events in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 25 years. He currently co-produces the KFJC Psychotronix Film Festival with projectionist/ archivist Sci Fi Bob Ekman, Robert Emmett of KFJC-FM and Scott Moon of Planet X magazine, as well as Lobo-Tronic Film shows for Mr. Lobo of Cinema Insomnia. He’s curated and/or produced screenings for Will The Thrill of www.thrillville. net, Oddball Film, Noe Valley Ministry and the Exploratorium. as well as four programs of silent-era animation, comedy and 1920's-style surrealism with live musical accompaniment by Bay Area musical legends Beth Custer and Ralph Carney.
