San Francisco area burlesque for January 5 to 12, 2010

This week brings the first show of 2010 for Red Hots Burlesque! This will be the first Friday that El Rio will be open in a while due to the holidays, and this week's show will feature the debut of Vera DeVille on the RHB stage and performances by Virginia Suicide, Bitter Waitress, Kitty Von Quimm, Lady Monster, and Miss Honey Penny. Ah, it's the return of the best happy hour in the Bay Area!

This weekend also brings Twilight Vixen Revue's "Where to Sin in San Francisco: A Dance Through Queer History 1928-1942" at the Dance Mission Theater. In addition to being entertaining, this show looks like it will be educational! And with Alotta Boutte and Stephen Camarota in the show, you know it will feature outstanding vocal performances in addition to the burlesque!

Have a good week! :-)

  • Friday, January 8: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. RHB makes its 2010 debut this week, along with Vera DeVille! Also performing will be Virginia Suicide, Bitter Waitress, Kitty Von Quimm, Lady Monster, and Miss Honey Penny. Show at 7:30pm. $5-10, sliding scale. 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday and Saturday, January 9: "Where to Sin in San Francisco: A Dance Through Queer History 1928- 1942" at Dance Mission Theater in SF, 3316 24th Street. Through scintillating neo-burlesque dance, integrated into a series of storytelling monologues, Twilight Vixen Revue is telling a well-hidden piece of our city’s history for two evenings. Audiences will travel through time to experience, with some historical accuracy, the fully choreographed shows at the Grand Opera House, Finocchio’s, Mona’s 440, and the Black Cat. San Francisco's sauciest sextet, the Twilight Vixen Revue, has enlisted other local talents to bring the past to life, including Beach Blanket Babylon's songstress Chave Alexander (known to some as Harlem Shake Burlesque's Alotta Boutte), Stephen Camarota of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, and your ‘hostess’ for the evening, the muscular drag debutante Genie, played by Rich Bianco (former actor/dancer with LA’s Diovolo Dance Theater). Show at 8:00pm. Tickets are $18 in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/91319, $20 at the door, Dance Mission accepts cash only.

  • Monday, January 11: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. Warm up your winter with Kingfish and Eddie at the Uptown! This week, see Electrikat, Room for Cream, KissMeKate, Delilah, Miss Lida Fire and special full guest-set by dance troupe Debalicious! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.

As always, for more information, please check the calendar above. Also, you may want to check back during the week to see if there are and late additions to this schedule. And if you have a burlesque show or information about a show you would like to add to the calendar, please email me at sfbr AT gmx DOT com.
