A feature story about the neo-burlesque scene by NBC11's Robert Wellington aired this past Saturday night. It's pretty rare that the mainstream media covers the burlesque scene.
The story featured footage and interviews with Kitten on the Keys, Mariel a la Mode, and Baby Doe of the Devil-Ettes. I recognized some of the footage from the November 18 Little Minsky's show at Club Deluxe where Kitten and Mariel performed. And I recognized the El Cerrito Speakeasy Theater!
Although the story wasn't comprehensive--you can only do so much in 2 minutes and 14 seconds--I thought it was a fair piece. Baby Doe touched on the positive aspects of burlesque on performers' self-esteem, and Kitten talked about how she takes of different roles as an singer/musician on the edge.
And thanks to Lady Monster and Kitten on the Keys, I'm able to embed the video from NBC11. Yay!
