San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for October 13 to October 19, 2011

Before mentioning anything else, there is a change of venue for one show. The Haight Street Hop has moved on down to Brisbane's 23 Club and is now known as simply "The Hop." The show will still be on Saturday, but it'll now start at 8:00 p.m. So don't go to the Milk Bar expecting to see some burlesque! There will be something happening there, but it won't be The Hop.

The start of this next week is one of the busiest in recent memory. On Friday alone there are five shows! On Saturday, there are four events, including an author event with Robert Strom in the afternoon. So you'll have to make some decisions. Whatever your choice, though, it looks like they're all good shows and events!

So scan the listings, and see which shows appeal to you this week. The weather seems to be typical October sunshine, so perhaps you can "hop" from one show to another, like some people do. Have a good time!

• Thursday, October 13: Curivicious Cabaret at The Blue Macaw in San Francisco, 2565 Mission Street (map). Curvicious Cabaret presents an all star burlesque tribute to your favorite iconic horror films! From classic thrillers to modern chillers, it'll get your blood pumping and your heart racing! Tributes include Hellraiser, The Ring, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Shining, Alien vs. Predator and Freddy vs Jason! • Also Thursday: Little Minsky's Burlesque and Variety Show at Club Deluxe in San Francisco, 1511 Haight Street (map). Ladies and gents, we're pleased as punch to announce a special appearance from original Little Minsky's co-founder The Flying Fox. This glamorous burlesque beauty has been tearing up the New York night life scene, but has winged her way back to heat up her old haunt for one night only. Notorious cabaret diva Alotta Boutté hosts this night of saucy shenanigans and stylish showgirls featuring the vivacious Bunny Pistol, tantalizing Truvy Trollop, luscious Lady Monster, exquisite Jinx the Minx and sizzling Miss Honey Penny. In lush tones with international flair, they have some original tunes from the fantastic acoustic guitar balladeer Joan Cerqueiro. And more creative concoctions mixing a custom blend of dance styles from the ingenious and alluring Rasa Vitalia. With a debut Minsky's performance from inspired drag sensation Karma Zabetch. • Friday, October 14: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). Come with your sense of humor, get ready to enter the pink bubble. Red Hots Burlesque brings you the "city's best" bump and grind at the "happiest hour" in the bay and newly noted "#3 burlesque show in the country to take your girl to"! This Friday, join host Juicy D. Light for a show featuring performances by La Chica Boom, Last Night's Fling, Vaudie Va Boom, and many more! 7:30pm. $5 to $10, sliding scale. 21+.


• Also Friday: Barbary Coast Burlesque at the Impala Restaurant & Lounge in San Francisco, 501 Broadway Street (map). A fun and fascinating afternoon as Robert Strom recounts the career of Gypsy Rose Lee and his writing experiences. 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Free.


• Also Saturday: Burlesque Moulin and Lost Dog Found present Speakeasy Cabaret (A Swingy Speakeasy Revival) at the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley, 2284 Shattuck Avenue (map). A true speakeasy revival show featuring the sassy, sexy sounds of the Bay Area’s swing revival big band, Lost Dog Found! Come to dine, drink, and enjoy a great show! • Wednesday, October 19: Red Hots Burlesque - Tatas Flambe Tour: Barbary Bump & Grind at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). Join Dottie Lux for Red Hots Burlesque as she welcome legendary burlesque star Satans Angel back to San Francisco! Performances by Trauma Flintstone, Bunny Pistol, Dottie Lux, Ava Lanche, La Chica Boom, Shakey Gibson, Scotty The Blue Bunny and featuring "The Devil's Mistress" Satan's Angel! 7:30pm. $5 to $10, sliding scale. 21+.

San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for June 9 - June 15, 2011

This week's schedule contains at least one burlesque or burlesque-related activity for each day of the week. Hooray!

There will be something interesting to do, whether it's listening to author Robert Strom talk about his book about legendary ecdysiast Gypsy Rose Lee, drawing the Rubenesque Burlesque troupe at Dr. Sketchy's East Bay, or going out to see one of the numerous live shows, there will be something to catch your fancy.

• Thursday, June 9: Robert Strom presents Lady of Burlesque: The Career of Gypsy Rose Lee at Books Inc. - Castro in San Francisco, 2275 Market Street (map). Local author Robert Strom will present his well-researched account of the Broadway star and "intellectual stripper." 7:30pm. No cover.


• Also Thursday: Little Minsky's Burlesque and Variety Show at Club Deluxe in San Francisco, 1511 Haight Street (map). Ladies and gents, it's almost time to get gussied up and swing on by Little Minsky's for a visual feast of glamorous gals, saucy shenanigans and auditory delights. Your host for the evening is celebrated drag vocal diva Ethel Merman, whose heights of talent are only exceeded by the height of her hair. With burlesque from Rosie 151 (New York), Absinthia Verre (Boise, Idaho), Vienna La Rouge, Dottie Lux, Miss Honey Penny, Francine Dead, and Miss Twin Peaks. And variety acts by dancing duo The Scarlet Ladders, performance artist Vixen Noir, cross-gender chanteuse Shakey Gibson, soprano cabaret star Alyssa Stone, and piano maestro Joe Wicht. • Friday, June 10: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). Catch NYC's Rosie 151 at her second Red Hots show this week. With the RHB debut of Ariyana Le Fay! With fun fresh faces and some favorites we are welcoming home! The Hubba Hubba Revue's Kingfish will be the host of a show featuring performances from Casey Castille, Cyanide Cyn, Lily LeRouge, Rosalyn La Roux, and sASSy Hotbuns. • Saturday, June 11: Dr. Sketchy's East Bay at Disco Volante in Oakland, 347 14th Street (map). Red Hots Burlesque is bringing Rubenesque Burlesque to their new venue for your drawing enjoyment! Beginning this month, Dr. Sketchy East Bay will be at Disco Volante, a restaurant and lounge. 4pm to 7pm. $12 general, $10 students and presale.

• Tuesday, June 14: Séduction Féroce at Era Art Bar and Lounge in Oakland, 19 Grand Avenue (map). Séduction Féroce is a burlesque cabaret variety show that happens every second Tuesday of the month! This month's show will feature Prometheus, Cupcake,
  Puck Goodfellow, Barbary Doll, Vaudie Va-Boom, Mr. Bean, Cemora, Melicious, Sheba, Austin Plowser, and the Scarlet Ladders! With music from Mugg Muggles and Drum Stringer - the One Man Banjo Band! Doors at 8pm, show at 9pm. $5. 21+.


• Also Tuesday: Bombshell Betty and Fromagique present "What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas"! at the Elbo Room in San Francisco, 647 Valencia Street (map).
  It's a burlesque tribute to all things from "Sin City"! A new and different show twice a week, including bizarre beauties, senseless sideshow, drag, burlesque and comedy! 7:30pm. $5 to $10, sliding scale. 21+.

Naked Girls Reading SF presents Burlesque Legends on Sunday, May 15

This month, Naked Girls Reading of San Francisco is pulling out all the stops for the Burlesque Hall of Fame's Legends Challenge! Proceeds will be donated to helping Satans Angel and other Legends to attend this year's Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend, June 2-6, in Las Vegas!

The Naked Girls Reading SF's regular cast members (Carol Queen, Lady Monster, Ophelia Coeur de Noir, Cherry Galette) will be reading from biographies and autobiographies of burlesque legends such as Lilli St. Cyr, Blaze Starr, Tura Satana, and more! And local author, Robert Strom, will be reading from his new book, "Lady of Burlesque: The Career of Gypsy Rose Lee." Plus, there will be Legends in the audience who will tell stories about their own experiences. And if you'd like to sit with a Legend, there is an option for that, too! And there will be some outstanding raffle prizes!

The event will be held at the Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco, located at 1349 Mission Street (map). Tickets are available online at ngrsf.eventbrite.com at a slight discount. Tickets at the door are $15.00 general admission, and $20.00 to sit with a Legend. Y0u must be 18 years of age to attend, as there will be actual nudity.

Naked Girls Reading: Burlesque Legends

This is a benefit for Satans Angel and the Burlesque Hall of Fame’s LEGENDS CHALLENGE.
100% of the proceeds will be donated.
The Burlesque Hall of Fame’s International Competition and Showcase will be at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, June 2-6th, 2011.
