Little Minsky's is San Francisco's longest running monthly burlesque show. It's also one of the most diverse in terms of talent. It's usually a mix of burlesque, drag, belly dancing, jazz, comedy, and other vaudevillian artists. This month, the featured acts will include Twilight Vixen Revue, Sister Kate, jazz ensemble The Cottontails with vocalists Karina Denike, Lily Taylor, and Alotta Boutté, dare-devil Molotov, Kristina Nekiya of Los Angeles, Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers, Vienna La Rouge, Mynx d'Meanor, Lady Monster, Sid Scenic, Lady Satan, ElectiKat, Portugal's Rita Braga, and Kingfish of the Hubba Hubba Revue as emcee. That's an amazing lineup!

The doors open at 9:00 p.m., and the show starts at 10:00. Get there early to get a seat or spot to stand with a good view of the stage. If you've been to Club Deluxe, you'll know that if you're late, it may be hard to find a place to see the stage!

Cafe Deluxe is located at 1511 Haight Street in San Francisco (map). It's a 21 and older club, so bring your ID just in case you get carded. Cover is still just $5.00!

That's right, it's Little Minsky's sixth anniversary and we've a splendid shindig filled with fabulous burlesque beauties and vintage hot jazz with sideshow diversions. We have two terrific troupes - the gorgeous glamour gals of the Twilight Vixen Revue and the stunning genre-blending belly dance trio Sister Kate. Some rollicking tunes from stellar jazz outfit The Cottontails with virtuoso vocalists Karina Denike, Lily Taylor and Alotta Boutté. Astounding sword-swallowing feats from the mischievous Molotov. Hubba Hubba Revue: Soviet Union! This Friday, January 14

Return to the days when Krushchev, Brezhnev, and Gorbachev ruled the Evil Empire. Only this time, instead of the USSR it's the UHHR (United Hubba Hubba Revue) Burlesque Empire, and the rulers are named Kingfish and Eddie! Gather your rubles, it's time this Friday evening for the Hubba Hubba Revue: Soviet Union show! Conveniently located at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco!

If you're looking for a show with a lot of burlesque performances with music and comedy, the Hubba Hubba Revue's "Big Show" is it. Recently named by the Travel Chanel as one of the world's top 10 burlesque shows, the Hubba Hubba Revue will often feature visiting performers as well as the best of the Bay. This month's show will feature The Shanghai Pearl from Seattle, Ms. Luisa from Minneapolis, and Fever Blister from Los Angeles, as well as the Twilight Vixen Revue, Lady Satan, Sparkly Devil, Vienna La Rouge, and more!

The doors open at 9:00 p.m., and the show will start at 10:00 or so. Usually, the musical guest (Brothers Horse this month) takes the stage first and plays a set of about 45 minutes, then the burlesque begins after a short break for another 45 minutes, then there's an intermission that lasts about 15-20 minutes. The last set of burlesque performances lasts until about 1:30 a.m., so bring some comfortable shoes! Dancing then takes place until closing time.

If you arrive between 9:00 and 9:30, make sure to purchase you tickets from the box office first. There's a discount ("KGB discount) for those who arrive early, so you'll pay only $10.00 cover instead of the normal $15.00. Once you get the hand stamp, you'll be free to exit the club and return before the show begins. You can also purchase tickets in advance online from dnalounge.com for $12.00.

The DNA Lounge is located at 375 11th Street in San Francisco (map). If you're driving, there's usually plenty of parking on 11th just past Howard.

Benefit for Eddie Dane's Eyeballs this Wednesday, November 10, at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland

Eddie Dane of the Hubba Hubba Revue needs your assistance!

Along with Kingfish, Eddie Dane is pretty much co-everything Hubba Hubba Revue. They work as a team, and you can see him work his vaudevillian magic with Kingfish every Monday at the Uptown Nightclub and at their monthly "Big Show" at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco every third Friday.

Recently, Eddie has learned that he needs to have a series of eye surgeries to save his sight. And like many people in burlesque, he has no health insurance, so the medical bills will be astronomical.

This is where you can help out. This Wednesday, November 10, there will be a benefit show at the aforementioned Uptown Nightclub. The proceeds from "Eddie's Eyeballs Benefit" will go towards his medical bills, and you'll have a fantastic time, too!

Check out the lineup of performers for the evening! Miss Balla Fire, Sparkly Devil, Last Night's Fling, Twilight Vixen Revue, Honey Penny... It's a veritable who's who of Bay Area Burlesque! And that's not all! There will be comedy from Kevin Hancock and Mary Van Note! Plus, there will be music from The Phenomenauts and Toshio Hirano! O. M. G. If you haven't heard Toshio Hirano perform, you can't miss that. He's an American Bluegrass musician and singer. The Bay Area's Japanese yodeling cowboy! He's won SF Bay Guardian and SF Weekly "Best of" awards, and someone even made a short documentary about him. See the trailer below!

Also performing will be Bella Trixx and the Displayed Labors Sideshow. I don't think you'll find any other show where you can see the "hooks, piercings, and blood" of DLS and the stylings of Toshio Hirano. That's one of the wonderful and unique things about burlesque shows in the Bay Area!

Of course, keeping the reins on and spurring along the show will be Eddie's partner, Kingfish. It promises to be a wonderful evening, and you can get in for only $10! Of course, you'll want to bring more dough along in case you such items as "Eddie Dane Commemorative Eye Patches" may be available for purchase, or if you decide you simply want to donate more money to the cause.

Speaking of, if you can't make it to the show, you can donate online from the comfort of your own home! Yes, simply visit www.giveforward.com/e, and you can donate however much you want to Eddie. Isn't the "interwebs" wonderful?

Hope to see you on Wednesday!

Lucha VaVOOM and "Monster Mashup!!" San Francisco Halloween Burlesque 2010!

Halloween is popular amongst burlesque fans for many reasons, many of which probably have to do with being encouraged to get dressed up in a unique costume. And this year, there are two shows that are happening on Halloween!

Lucha VaVOOM returns to the Fillmore for a Halloween show featuring a tribute to the Cramps with DJ Sergio Iglesias! If you've never been, the show is a mixture of Lucha Libre wrestling with burlesque and comedy from the ringside announcers. This Sunday, the featured announcer will be Blaine Capatch!

Check out this video to see what you can expect at the Fillmore. Just don't watch it at work, for it is NSFW!

Among the scheduled burlesque performers are Lucy Fur, Ursulina, Lux LaCroix, and Moana Santana. With the international, androgynous hula hoop superstar, Karis!

If you go, just be aware that the wrestlers can get carried away, especially when they fly off the balcony! So make sure that you don't get flattened by a Li'l Chupacabra. That could be very embarrassing for you!

Otherwise, it's a fun and very unique event. Wear a costume, have some drinks, watch the wrestlers and burlesque performers, and laugh at Blaine. You'll not see another show quite like it... until Lucha VaVOOM comes back around next time!

The Fillmore is located at 1805 Geary B0ulevard in San Francisco (map). Tickets are $32.50, and may be purchased in advance (plus $12.20 service fees) at livenation.com via luchavavoom.com. The scheduled time is 8 p.m., so get there early so you can get a good place to stand! General admission is standing room only.

Little Minsky's and Cirque Noir shows on Thursday, October 14

Dr. Lucky visits Little Minsky's this Thursday at Club Deluxe in San Francisco. Also known as Dr. Lukki, she is from New York City and is a renowned performer who also teaches the history of American burlesque at New York University in the drama department. She has also given lectures and taught practicum workshops about burlesque at CUNY, Miss Exotic World, The New York School of Burlesque, Toronto Burlesque Festival, and elsewhere.

So join Little Minsky's Douglas Good for an evening of drinks, socializing, burlesque, music, and comedy featuring your host, Kingfish of Hubba Hubba Revue, and starring Twinkletoes McGee, Twilight Vixen Revue (pictured), Kentucky Fried Woman, Lady Monster, and more!

Little Minsky's Burlesque/Variety Show

Ladies and gentlemen fasten your seat belts, it's gonna be a hot and bumpy night. If you're feeling a little blue, or could use a little pick-me-up we have just the thing as Dr. Abacus is in the house with their invigorating brand of cartoon jazz and vibraphonic concoctions. If they're playing and you're not smiling then you're not breathing. And if that doesn't do the trick, how's about special guest Dr. Lucky from New York, burlesque artist and historian who proves that lessons can be quite stimulating. Also pleased to welcome for the first time on the Minsky's stage the danceable, delightful boylesque sensation Twinkletoes McGee. And a rousing cheer for those shimmering showgirls the Twilight Vixen Revue, the fantabulous Kentucky Fried Woman, red hot Dottie Lux, luscious Lady Monster and devastating Ava Lanche. All this hosted by the notoriously hilarious Kingfish of the Hubba Hubba Revue.

Swing on by, pick your poison and enjoy the show...

Changes at First Friday Follies and Twilight Vixen Revue

This week, there's been news coming out of the First Friday Follies and Twilight Vixen Revue (pictured) camps. And the news involves Cupcake!

Cupcake is handing over the reigns of First Friday Follies after three years to Rubenesque Burlesque's Juicy D. Light. Cupcake said in a message to the First Friday Follies Facebook Group that her business is growing and that she needs to concentrate more on it. As of December, all booking inquiries for First Friday Follies shows should be sent to Juicy at firstfridayfollies@gmail.com.

It will be interesting to see how this change will affect one of the most popular burlesque shows in the East Bay. I'm sure that Juicy D. Light will put her stamp on the show and that she'll do a grand job. The show is perfectly situated at the Stork Club towards the end of the evening of Oakland's Art Murmur, the art walk that occurs on the first Friday of the month in the Uptown area. There's usually a great crowd at the show, and it's always a good time.

And for the second part of the news, Cupcake is the newest member of the Twilight Vixen Revue! She'll make her debut with them on October 31 at the Barbary Coast Amusements Vaudeville Brunch at SOMArts, 934 Brannan Street, San Francisco. The show is $12 if tickets are purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door.

Twilight Vixen Revue is the winner of the San Francisco Bay Guardian's "Best Burlesque Act" in their Best of the Bay Readers Poll four straight years, 2007-2010. For more information about them, please see their website, their Facebook Page, and their YouTube Channel.

In addition to the Halloween show, you can next catch Twilight Vixen Revue at Little Minsky's on Thursday, October 14. Doors open at 9:00 p.m., and the show begins at 10:00. It'll be at Club Deluxe, 1511 Haight Street in San Francisco.

Finally, ever wonder where the name Twilight Vixen Revue came from? It has nothing to do with the Stephenie Meyer novels. Here's how they explain the genesis of their name:

And finally for those of you paying attention and have always wondered, our name does not come from some Stephanie Meyer lust. We pre-date Bella and Edward by about 5 years, and for sure don't respect their ahem, restraint.... Our name is a reference to the gay pulp code for queers as the folk who exist in between- in the Twilight. And the vixen part is easy (as are we). Pass it along.

Hubba Hubba Revue's Four Year Anniversary Spectacular this Friday, September 17

The Hubba Hubba Revue is celebrating their fourth year anniversary this Friday night at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco!

Can you believe it's been four years? The show doesn't look a day over two! The first Hubba Hubba Revue show was on September 16, 2006. There's a copy of the the first show's flier to the left. You'll notice that the cover is still $15! And believe me, it's even more of a bargain today. If you'd like to see some pictures from that show, there are some at dnalounge.com. You'll see that not much has changed in the intervening years. Wait... does Kingfish have hair in those pictures?!?!

During the past four years, Kingish and Eddie's Hubba Hubba Revue has consistently put together the largest and most entertaining burlesque and variety shows west of the Mississippi. The shows not only feature sexy women performing striptease, but also daredevils, comedians, aerialists, rock bands, jazz vocalists, magicians, swing bands, and many other acts that you probably would not otherwise see in your day-to-day lives.

And this Friday's show promises to be one of the biggest, sexiest, and most exciting yet! It's often said that a show will feature an all-star lineup, but this show will truly deliver! The Hot Pink Feathers, the Twilight Vixen Revue, the Diamond Daggers, Sparkly Devil, Mynx d'Meanor, Alotta Boutté, Delilah, Flame Cynders... the list of Bay Area burlesque stars performing this Friday goes on and on!

Some of the acts that performed on that historic Friday evening in 2006 will be back this Friday! Roxy Shocks, The Twilight Vixen Revue, Flame Cynders, Gorilla X, and Mynx d'Meanor will all be returning to the DNA Lounge stage for this four year reunion.

It will be a night not to be missed if you're a fan of burlesque in the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend. So get your tickets at dnalounge.com, or get to the box office early on Friday evening to take advantage of the discounted $10 tickets. This is one show that is sure to be very popular!

See you there!

Bettie Blackheart and Frank Doggenstein at Uptown Hubba Hubba on Monday, May 31

This coming Monday, Bettie Blackheart and Frank Doggenstein of Helsinki Burlesque will be performing at the Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland!

They are the founders of Helsinki Burlesque (Burleski!), and are visiting our fine region from Finland. This will be a great opportunity to see the first couple of Finnish burlesque!

Also performing on Monday will be Displayed Labors Sideshow! From what I've read, their performances are not for the squeamish! Hooks, piercings, blood, aerialists, burlesque, sword-swallowers... these have been part of their shows. There was a report of someone fainting at an appearance once. It should be something to see!

And let's not forget Kiss Me Kate! It's her last performance in the Bay Area before she leaves to perform in Las Vegas to perform Thursday at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend, so I'm guessing that she'll be tuning up her BHOF act Monday. So cheer her on before she jets off to represent the Bay Area in Vegas!

There will also be a slew of other acts on Monday, including the Twilight Vixen Revue and Miss Mae Western. For all of the acts appearing, it's a real burly-bargain! And you'll not find a better time on a Monday night in Oakland!

Howdy Friends!

What more perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day than a SEXY night of BURLESQUE! Comedy! and Astounding Sideshow Performers! Hubba Hubba Revue has all that and more this coming MONDAY NIGHT! Come on down and join in the fun with...

Little Minsky's for Thursday, April 8, 2010

Yes, it's the second Thursday of the month, so it's time for Little Minsky's at Club Deluxe in San Francisco! In an atmosphere that recalls the San Francisco of years past, catch a cabaret show that will include burlesque acts, a drag vocalist, a Spanish singer, a world fusion belly dancer, a jazz chanteuse, some Cottontails, and the ubiquitous Kingfish of Hubba Hubba Revue as the Master of Ceremonies!

The music's flowing and sequins glowing as cocktails clink and sly smiles curve the lips of stylish vamps. It's the Little Minsky's mix of glamour and spice, burlesque and cabaret with a dash of drag. And for our next show, we're welcoming four first-time Minsky performers - virtuoso jazz chanteuse Sheelagh Murphy, vintage and vaudeville-influenced world fusion belly dancer Wendy Marlatt, stunning drag vocalist Honey Mahogany and sensational original songs from Spanish singer/guitarist Joan Cerqueiro. In the art of the tease, the shimmy and shake, we have the vivacious Twilight Vixen Revue, ever-elegant Vienna la Rouge, irrepressible Sparkly Devil (photo at left), luscious Honey Lawless, pin-up perfect Pin Key Lee and the intoxicating Mai Tai. Jovial host Kingfish leads the way through these enticing acts, but if you find yourself frequently following him to the bar, don't say we didn't warn you...

Where to Sin in San Francisco with Twilight Vixen Revue: Friday and Saturday, January 8 and 9

This Friday and Saturday evenings at Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco, see the Twilight Vixen Revue in their new show, "Where to Sin in San Francisco."

This special show will revisit pre-World War II San Francisco, where performers including Chave Alexander, Stephen Camarota, and Rich Bianco, will join the Twilight Vixen Revue in recreating some of the sights and sounds of the more risque theaters of that era.

The Vixens usually put together a good show. Their Q-Baret last year at The Garage with SF Boylesque was one of my favorite performances. And the subject matter of this show is quite intriguing! It's not something I know a great deal about, so in addition to being entertaining, it'll be educational.

If you'd like to purchase tickets in advance, you may find them online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/91319. "Where to Sin" will be on January 8 and 9. Tango Con*Fusion and Olivia Lehrman will perform together without TVR on the 10th.

All of the show details are below.

Three-time 'Best of the Bay' Burlesque Troupe presents "Where to Sin in San Francisco"

Dance, song, and pasties tell a queerly essential San Francisco story.

As the world spun wildly around two devastating world wars, San Francisco was in the midst of a cultural heyday. Through scintillating neo-burlesque dance, integrated into a series of storytelling monologues, Twilight Vixen Revue is telling a well-hidden piece of our city’s history for two evenings at the Dance Mission Theater.

Audiences will travel through time to experience, with some historical accuracy, the fully choreographed shows at the Grand Opera House, Finocchio’s, Mona’s 440, and the Black Cat. San Francisco's sauciest sextet, the Twilight Vixen Revue, has enlisted other local talents to bring the past to life, including Beach Blanket Babylon's songstress Chave Alexander (known to some as Harlem Shake Burlesque's Alotta Boutte), Stephen Camarota of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, and your ‘hostess’ for the evening, the muscular drag debutante Genie, played by Rich Bianco (former actor/dancer with LA’s Diovolo Dance Theater).

From Chinatown to North Beach to Treasure Island to the Tenderloin, tourists, sailors, railroaders, still-hopeful gold-rushers and a bevy of immigrants came post-Prohibition to ogle and walk among the fascinating “sinners.” While other cities isolated their gay districts, San Francisco leaned heavily on the queer elements of its social fabric to draw sexual tourists to the city. With this tourism, San Francisco garnered its reputation as the “Paris of America” and the “wickedest town on the continent”. In this setting, beautiful men dressed as ladies and handsome ladies dressed as men danced and sang, birthing a significant queer culture that continues today.

San Francisco area burlesque for December 29, 2009 to January 4, 2010

To start off the new year, I'll be changing the week to start on Tuesdays. I've noticed that there aren't many shows on Tuesday, and Kingfish has been posting the following Monday's Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown on Tuesdays, so this new schedule seems to make more sense.

So the first shows will be this Thursday and are New Year's Eve shows! In Sausalito, the Twilight Vixen Revue will be performing at a show with Olivia Travel and Betty's List at Ondine. If you haven't made reservations, though, the website says they are sold out. In San Francisco though, the Hot Pink Feathers will be performing with the Carmen Milagro Band at a benefit for the Mission Language and Vocational School and Culinary Academy at the Florida Street Cafe. Get your tickets now at www.partyatfloridastreetcafe.com before they sell out!

The first show of 2010 will belong to First Friday Follies at the Stork Club in Oakland. It'll be a special show, because it'll be a Bowie-themed show, and it'll be emcee Margaret France's birthday! Also, remember that Red Hots Burlesque is on hiatus until January 8, because El Rio is closed for the holiday.

Saturday will feature the first Burlesque n' Brass of 2010 with Blue Bone Express and Hot Pink Feathers at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland.

Then the next Monday will feature Hubba Hubba Revue at the Uptown Club in Oakland with Flame Cynders, Cherry Contrary, and Josie Starre! What a way to start 2010! :-D

  • Thursday, December 31: New Year's Eve with Olivia Travel, Betty's List, and Twilight Vixen Revue (Sold out) at Ondine in Sausalito, 558 Bridgeway. Couples, Singles, all ages, all women, one & all are welcome. Dinner, dancing, dessert, champagne toast and a panoramic view like none other. With entertainment by DJ Tina Silano from New York City and your own Twilight Vixen Revue!
