Tonight Burlesque Moulin presents Ladies of the Bordello at Berkeley's Shattuck Down Low

This evening at the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley, a bordello opens. No need to alert the authorities, however. It's simply the latest Burlesque Moulin show, Ladies of the Bordello!

With performances by Ginger Skyye, Rosalynn la Roux, Alotta Boutté, Francine Dead, Jaded Fox, Sheba Queen of the Night, Elyse Elaine, Kitty Von Quim, and Isis Starr, this show is sure to be as hot as the weather today! The emcee Juicy D. Light will make sure the pace of the show is torrid.

The Livid Cult Burlesque Theatre will tease your brains out with "Walking Dead Sexy: A Burlesque Tribute to Comic Books and the Zombie Apocalypse" this Saturday night in Oakland at Vitus!

With the Image Expo happening in Oakland this weekend, there are sure to be tons of fans of The Living Dead around and about. So what goes together like zombies and brains? Comic fans and burlesque!

About our FEATURED Performer:
Nomy Lamm is a singer, accordion player, performance artist and vocal coach. Her band, nomy lamm & THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, is a flexible platform for collaboration with everyone and everything, including other musicians, visual artists, puppeteers, poets, spectators, and the moon. She performs regularly with Sins Invalid, creating musical dreamworld performance art about disability, sexuality and social justice. She has toured with Sister Spit and the Sex Workers Art Show, co-created the post-apocalyptic genderqueer rock opera "The Transfused," and last summer had the honor of touring the country with the illustrious unicorn chantreuse, DavEnd. She is currently working on her MFA thesis, a collection of short stories called "515 Clues," and writes an advice column for Make/Shift magazine called "Dear Nomy."

About our FEATURED Performer:

Vaudie's first time performing burlesque was her freshman year in high school in a production of "Guys and Dolls."She has been involved with over a thousand events in hundreds of venues between Southern California and Northern Washington. She wants to learn all aspects of "show business," and let's just say she's well on her way.
Not only does she direct the world's only cannibalistic can-can troupe called The Can-Cannibals, but she is also the co-creator of the dynamic burlesque duo The Dishrag Dollies, dances with the esteemed French Can-Can troupe from San Francisco, Le CanCan Bijou, and performs solo burlesque, cabaret and sideshow acts. On top of that she produces concerts, events, and her own variety show called the Punk Rock Cabaret for the Oakland Pyrate Punx. She will undoubtedly bring a huge smile and a unique freshness to all of her endeavors.

This Queen of Queer Burlesque is so electric, why she's the very reason the lights went out in Georgia!I am a burlesque performer of 7 years.More specifically I make performance art rooted in various African-American vernacular dance traditions (from the cakewalk, to shake dancing), with 50's/60 striptease movement vocabulary and heavily influenced by mid century showgirl chic. Kentucky Fried Woman's 2011 Celebrity Memorial Show at Oakland's Bench and Bar tonight

Kentucky Fried Woman's show on Sunday, December 4, will celebrate the lives of celebrities and social activists. At the Bench and Bar in Oakland, you may see acts which celebrate the lives of such famous people as Amy Winehouse, Jane Russell, Pete Postlethwaite, Al Davis, Mike Starr, Warren Christopher, Elizabeth Taylor, Jack Kevorkian and more!

The show will be funny and uplifiting. It will feature performers such as Brock Cocker, Juicy D. Light, Honey Lawless, Kitty Von Quim, and many others. Hickie from Kenickie ("A hickie from Kenickie is like a Hallmark card, when you only care enough to send the very best!") is a group featuring burlesque stars such as Penny Whistle, Cherry Poppins, Sugarbush Lane, and others who I'm sure will be involved in the Jeff Conaway tribute act. With FemC Starr 69, and musical guest Alotta Boutté!

Crashtastic: A burlesque fundraiser for Johnny Crash's magic picture box tonight at El Rio

Burlesque photographer Johnny Crash (pictured) needs a new camera.

As we all know, really good cameras aren't cheap. And taking good pictures in areas where a lot of burlesque shows take place requires great equipment in addition to a good eye and photographer's intuition. So tonight, there will be a burlesque fundraiser to help Mr. Crash to keep on documenting the burlesque scene by helping him to afford a great, new camera.

The show will be Crashtastic: A burlesque fundraiser for Johnny Crash's magic picture box. It will take place at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map). The show starts at 9:00 p.m., but you may want to arrive earlier as the first 50 people will get VIP entry for two to Red Hots Burlesque! Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Entry is on a sliding scale from $5.00 to whatever you wish to contribute to the cause. You must be 21 or older to attend.

The show will feature some of the most notable burlesque performers of the Bay Area, including Casey Castille, Bunny Pistol, Vera De Ville, and more! With sideshow performer Molotov! Rosie 151 from NYC performs at both Red Hots Burlesque shows this week

This Wednesday and Friday, June 8 and 10, Rosie 151 is coming from Brooklyn to perform on the Red Hots Burlesque stage at El Rio!

A burlesque performer since 2006, this hot and intoxicating high-energy performer has been singing and performing on stages all of her life. Rosie has performed in the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, and now she's bring her act to San Francisco! She'll also be performing this Thursday evening at the Little Minsky's show at Club Deluxe in San Francisco if you can't get enough of this 151-proof vixen.

Ariyana La Fey has danced, acted, and flown through the air all over the Bay Area, as well as such exotic locales as New York and Berlin. Trapped between dilettante and polymath, you might see her one night on stage and the next aloft in the aerial silks, or kicking up her heels on a go-go box. Ariyana is a founding member of the Hubba Hubba Revue, where she can always be found wrangling go-go dancers and aerialists alike, and occasionally taking to the stage herself. When she's not performing, Ariyana has been known to engage in tea drinking, costume building, and shameless cat canoodling.


About our visiting performer NYC's ROSIE 151:

From the Volcanic Island of Amadrini, Rosie 151 was raised on the most intoxicating rum in the world. When the Island began to erupt Rosie escaped just in the nick of time, making her way to New York City. With only a few casts of rum and her favorite bikini Rosie found work in some of NYC's most fabulous night spots, and soon became one of the city's finest burlesque stars. Rosie 151 has been serving up strong doses of hottness all over NYC since her first highly addictive performance as Marijuana Girl at the Slipper Room in 2006. Since then Rosie has been intoxicating fans from Coney Island to the Bronx with her sultry dancing. All anyone needs is a shot of Rosie to see she is a strong burlesque presence. One hundred and fifty one proof to be exact.

First Friday Follies presents "Seis de Mayo" on Friday, May 6

This Friday night, head on over to the Stork Club in Oakland for "Seis de Mayo," presented by First Friday Follies!

This month's show will include performances by Bunny Pistol, Cherry Galette, Lizzy D. Vine, and more! And the show will be hosted by Miss Bella Trixx, with musical guests Mermaid Bones!

Every first Friday of the month, Oakland has an art walk called Oakland Art Murmur where many of the galleries stay open late. If you've never been, it's pretty popular. And every first Friday, Juicy D. Light puts on a free burlesque and variety show at the Stork Club.

The Stork Club is located at 2330 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland (map). I'm not sure what's at the address on the flier (2813 Telegraph), but I'm sure of the address above. The show kicks off at 9:30 p.m., so get there by about 9:00 to get a good seat.

The First Friday Follies follows the evening's art walk through downtown/uptown art galleries. Finish up the evening with laughter and naughtiness with Juicy D. Light and other performers at the Stork Club.

This Friday evening, Honey Penny will host Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street (map).

Gigi and Pop of New York City will be the very special guests. This group, which includes burlesque sensation Anita Cookie, won the "Best Variety Act" at the 2009 Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas. Anita Cookie! They're on their "Goin' Back to Cally" Tour, and they're also celebrating the completion of their new album, "Odyssey Two!" If you miss them on Friday night, their last stop in the Bay Area will be at the Rite Spot Cafe in San Francisco on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. The Rite Spot is located at 2099 Folsom Street (map), and it's a free show.

School of Shimmy Added Class

Because the first "Burlesque 101" class was so popular, Red Hots Burlesque's School of Shimmy has added another "101" class for Sunday, February 20 at the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley (2284 Shattuck Avenue, map) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

All classes are open to students of any age or gender who want to shake it on stage or in the bedroom. No previous dance or performance experience is required. Red Hots Burlesque and First Friday Follies for Friday, December 3

Two of the easiest burlesque shows to get to via public transportation this Friday are Red Hots Burlesque in the Mission, and First Friday Follies in the Uptown area of Oakland. Both are within walking distance of BART stations, and performers frequently appear at both shows on the same night!

Even if you don't want to attend both, there's some interesting things happening on both sides of the Bay. At Red Hots Burlesque, Living Legend of Burlesque Isis Starr will be the emcee for the evening. And visiting from Los Angeles will be Scarlet O'gasm and Lucille Highball! Séduction Féroce's Sheba Queen of the Night and Dawn Devine will also be performing for your entertainment... and theirs!

It'll have a fantastic lineup that includes The Stripping Granny, Lizzy D. Vine, Ariyana La Fey, Revolva, and others. It's a free show, but donations are welcome!

The doors open at 9:00 p.m., and the show starts at 9:30. Get there early for a good spot!

Glenn Danzig tribute at First Friday Follies on Friday, November 5

This month's First Friday Follies will feature a tribute to Glenn Danzig! The Follies will take place at the Stork Club in Oakland at 9:00 p.m., and it will feature performances from Twinkletoes McGee, Mz. K of F’risqué, Madam Chartreuse, Miss Balla Fire, Ophelia Coeur de Noir, Dixie DeLish, Vivi Ennui, Vaudie Va-Boom of The Can-Cannibals, and Lady Satan!

The burlesque performances will be preceded by a live band, Earth AD, playing the music of Danzig, Samhain, and the Misfits from 9:30 p.m. to 10:00! So be there or be square!

This month's show will be the last one produced by Cupcake, who has been involved in the Follies since its inception. She'll be devoting more time to her bakery business, and she'll also be performing with the Twilight Vixen Revue. All future shows will be produced and promoted by Juicy D. Light of Rubenesque Burlesque fame, who will be co-hosting this show with Madam Chartreuse. So wish Cupcake the best this Friday and thank her for all of the Follies that she's put together these past several years!

Changes at First Friday Follies and Twilight Vixen Revue

This week, there's been news coming out of the First Friday Follies and Twilight Vixen Revue (pictured) camps. And the news involves Cupcake!

Cupcake is handing over the reigns of First Friday Follies after three years to Rubenesque Burlesque's Juicy D. Light. Cupcake said in a message to the First Friday Follies Facebook Group that her business is growing and that she needs to concentrate more on it. As of December, all booking inquiries for First Friday Follies shows should be sent to Juicy at firstfridayfollies@gmail.com.

It will be interesting to see how this change will affect one of the most popular burlesque shows in the East Bay. I'm sure that Juicy D. Light will put her stamp on the show and that she'll do a grand job. The show is perfectly situated at the Stork Club towards the end of the evening of Oakland's Art Murmur, the art walk that occurs on the first Friday of the month in the Uptown area. There's usually a great crowd at the show, and it's always a good time.

And for the second part of the news, Cupcake is the newest member of the Twilight Vixen Revue! She'll make her debut with them on October 31 at the Barbary Coast Amusements Vaudeville Brunch at SOMArts, 934 Brannan Street, San Francisco. The show is $12 if tickets are purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door.

Twilight Vixen Revue is the winner of the San Francisco Bay Guardian's "Best Burlesque Act" in their Best of the Bay Readers Poll four straight years, 2007-2010. For more information about them, please see their website, their Facebook Page, and their YouTube Channel.

In addition to the Halloween show, you can next catch Twilight Vixen Revue at Little Minsky's on Thursday, October 14. Doors open at 9:00 p.m., and the show begins at 10:00. It'll be at Club Deluxe, 1511 Haight Street in San Francisco.

Finally, ever wonder where the name Twilight Vixen Revue came from? It has nothing to do with the Stephenie Meyer novels. Here's how they explain the genesis of their name:

And finally for those of you paying attention and have always wondered, our name does not come from some Stephanie Meyer lust. We pre-date Bella and Edward by about 5 years, and for sure don't respect their ahem, restraint.... Our name is a reference to the gay pulp code for queers as the folk who exist in between- in the Twilight. And the vixen part is easy (as are we). Pass it along.
