Barbary Coast Burlesque at Yoshi's SF this Sunday, March 18

Barbary Coast Burlesque returns to Yoshi's of San Francisco this Sunday for another evening of quality burlesque amongst the swanky charms of one of the city's newest jazz clubs.

La Chica Boom, Shredder, Scotty the Blue Bunny, Wiggy Darlington, Sid Scenic, Vienna La Rouge, Mynx D'Meanor, Kellita, and Bunny Pistol will all be there to perform for your entertainment!

Celebrate Mardi Gras with the Hot Pink Feathers and Blue Bone Express at Vitus in Oakland

It's Fat Tuesday, so that means that the Hot Pink Feathers (pictured) will be dancing! This year, they're teaming up with their Burlesque n' Brass partners Blue Bone Express at Vitus in Oakland.

See Kellita and the rest of the Feathers perform their World Cabaret Showgirl dances for you! Hear the New Orleans-tinged party jazz of Oakland's very own Blue Bone Express. Your emcee during the evening will be Kingfish of the Hubba Hubba Revue. Is there a better way to celebrate Mardi Gras in the Bay Area? No!

Red Hots Burlesque presents their Burlesque Tribute to the Cramps this week, plus women's lube wrestling spectacular Go Deep on Thursday at El Rio.

This Wednesday and Friday, Red Hots celebrates the life and career of The Cramps' front man Lux Interior. Red Hots' February featured performer of the month will be the great Nomy Lamm and The Whole Wide World, which will be performing on Friday! The two shows will have guest hosts Eva Von Slut and Honey Lawless, and feature such entertainers as Patricia Misery, Francine Dead, Bunny Pistol, Ruby White, and Lady Satan! Nomy Lamm is a singer, accordion player, performance artist and vocal coach. Her band, nomy lamm & THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, is a flexible platform for collaboration with everyone and everything, including other musicians, visual artists, puppeteers, poets, spectators, and the moon. She performs regularly with Sins Invalid, creating musical dreamworld performance art about disability, sexuality and social justice. She has toured with Sister Spit and the Sex Workers Art Show, co-created the post-apocalyptic genderqueer rock opera "The Transfused," and last summer had the honor of touring the country with the illustrious unicorn chantreuse, DavEnd. She is currently working on her MFA thesis, a collection of short stories called "515 Clues," and writes an advice column for Make/Shift magazine called "Dear Nomy."

Along with Burlesque Moulin, the Hot Pink Feathers present FRISKY at the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley tonight, Saturday, September 17.

Hot Pink Feathers' Showgirl Academy presents a revamped "Crafting the Solo" workshop in September

The Hot Pink Feathers Showgirl Academy presents a new and improved edition of the "Crafting the Solo" workshop, which starts on Thursday, September 8.

There are two editions of the workshop. A seven week version for those new to burlesque solos, and an abbreviated four week version for veterans.

In these workshops, students will learn much about burlesque including its history, moves and props, how one can develop one's burlesque voice and self-confidence, and more. Private instruction with Head Feather Kellita is now included! For a complete listing of benefits, a complete description of the workshop, and registration options, please visit the class webpage.

The cost is $499 for the seven week workshop, and $299 for the four week veterans workshop. A $99 non-refundable deposit will hold your spot.

"Burlesque Assassins" at tonight's Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland

It's a very special Burlesque n' Brass tonight, Saturday, August 13, as the guest stars are some members of the international cast of the upcoming film "Burlesque Assassins"!

International circus and burlesque performer Armitage Shanks, the Carny Preacher, will be hosting the evening, which will include performances by Italy's biggest burlesque star Scarlett Martini, Switzerland's Blue Angel Koko La Douce, Germany's Hedo Luxe, and Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers! And all of this will be in addition to the usual group performances from HPF and Blue Bone Express and some solo performances, too!

It's almost time for the SF Carnaval Grand Parade, which means that it's almost time for the Hot Pink Feathers to get dressed in their costumes to dance down Mission Street! But they'll need money to buy their costumes. Feather fans don't come easy!

What will the Feathers do? Have a fundraising show, of course! This Saturday, May 21, join the Hot Pink Feathers and some special guests for "Frisky: A Hot Pink Feathers Revue and Carnaval Fundraiser" at the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley.

The show will feature the Feathers in group and solo acts. So if you missed their big 10th birthday show at the DNA Lounge, then you won't want to miss this show!

Even if you did see that show, you'll want to catch this show to see the Feathers' special guests from Chicago, Lola Martinet of the Dolls of Doom (winner of the Burlesque Hall of Fame's Best Variety Act 2010), and Ray Gunn of the Stage Door Johnnies!

Little Minsky's Six Year Celebration this Thursday, May 12

This Thursday evening, May 12, Little Minsky's Burlesque and Variety Show will be celebrating their six year anniversary. And you are all invited to the celebration at Club Deluxe!

Little Minsky's is San Francisco's longest running monthly burlesque show. It's also one of the most diverse in terms of talent. It's usually a mix of burlesque, drag, belly dancing, jazz, comedy, and other vaudevillian artists. This month, the featured acts will include Twilight Vixen Revue, Sister Kate, jazz ensemble The Cottontails with vocalists Karina Denike, Lily Taylor, and Alotta Boutté, dare-devil Molotov, Kristina Nekiya of Los Angeles, Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers, Vienna La Rouge, Mynx d'Meanor, Lady Monster, Sid Scenic, Lady Satan, ElectiKat, Portugal's Rita Braga, and Kingfish of the Hubba Hubba Revue as emcee. Ladies and gents, join us in celebrating six years of saucy shenanigans, musical merriment, stylish showgirls and vaudevillian hijinks. That's right, it's Little Minsky's sixth anniversary and we've a splendid shindig filled with fabulous burlesque beauties and vintage hot jazz with sideshow diversions. We have two terrific troupes - the gorgeous glamour gals of the Twilight Vixen Revue and the stunning genre-blending belly dance trio Sister Kate. Some rollicking tunes from stellar jazz outfit The Cottontails with virtuoso vocalists Karina Denike, Lily Taylor and Alotta Boutté. Astounding sword-swallowing feats from the mischievous Molotov. A lavish line-up of striptease talents with the captivating Kristina Nekyia (LA), shimmy-sational Kellita (of Hot Pink Feathers), ever-elegant Vienna La Rouge, delightful Mynx d'Meanor, lovely Lady Monster, exquisite Sid Scenic, tantalizing Lady Satan and high-voltage ElectriKat. And we'll be welcoming charming guest ukulele-strumming songstress Rita Braga from Lisbon, Portugal. MCs for the night are the irrepressible impresario Kingfish (of the Hubba Hubba Revue) and vibrant variety artiste Alotta Boutté. Little Minsky's Burlesque and Variety Show happens this Thursday, December 9

This Thursday at Club Deluxe in San Francisco, it's time for Little Minsky's Burlesque and Variety Show!

The Bay Area's longest running monthly burlesque show always features a variety of performers. Stripteasers, drag queens, jazz singers and musicians, comedians, and others take the Club Deluxe stage in one of the City's most atmospheric venues.

Your guide for this month's show will be Polly Peabody from Los Angeles. She's performed all over the world, but she loves San Francisco like a second home! So let's all welcome her with some extra warm hooting and hollering!

Also returning to our fair city will be Kitty Victorian from Washington, D.C. And don't forget our own local performers, Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers, Alotta Boutté, Dottie Lux, Kentucky Fried Woman, and Bitter Waitress!

This week in San Francisco Bay Area burlesque marks some celebrations!

On Friday evening at El Rio in San Francisco, help celebrate Kentucky Fried Woman's birthday as she emcees Red Hots Burlesque! There will be plenty of show, and then there will be a party on the patio. Happy birthday, Kentucky Fried Woman! But it looks like RHB's Dottie Lux will only be able to stay for a few minutes, because she'll be off to Sebastopol to perform in Risk-A Cabaret's Glam Show!

Saturday evening sees the return of Bunny Pistol's Barbary Coast Burlesque at Enrico's in San Francisco, which is certainly a cause for celebration! And over at Oakland's Cafe Van Kleef, the Hot Pink Feathers and Blue Bone Express will be celebrating the fourth anniversary of their show, Burlesque n' Brass. Plus, they'll be celebrating the birthday of Head Feather Kellita! Happy birthday, Kellita!

First Friday Follies on (yes) Friday and Monday's Hubba Hubba Revue show round out this week's burlesque shows. I'm sure there will be plenty to celebrate at those events, too. So whoop it up this week, and, as the Hot Pink Feathers say, laissez les bon temps roulez!

Hot Pink Feathers classes and news: September 2010 (revised)

This year, the Hot Pink Feathers will be celebrating their 10th anniversary! Starting in 2000, the showgirls of HPF have been delighting audiences with their own brand of World Cabaret Showgirl dance! Led by the Queen of Carnaval SF 2008 Kellita, they've performed on many stages across the country, appeared on television, and won awards such as the San Francisco Bay Guardian's "Best Dance Company" in the 2008 edition of the "Best of the Bay" polls.

They'll also be celebrating the four year anniversary of their show Burlesque n' Brass. Along with their musical collaborators Blue Bone Express, they've been wowing audiences at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland since 2006. And on Saturday, October 2, it'll also be a celebration of Kellita's birthday, so expect an extra helping of gloss and glitter! It all starts when the doors open at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, and the show is for those 21 years of age and older. Cafe Van Kleef is located at 1621 Telegraph Avenue, near the 19th Street BART station.

The Feathers have also started up a Facebook Page. Just click on over there and click the "like" button, and you'll get updates through Facebook. That's so cool!

Kellita in Las Vegas, the Hot Pink Feathers at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland this weekend

At the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend this Friday, Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers will be performing "a tribute to the Queens of the Tropics: the rumberas from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema" during the Titans of Tease Friday night tribute show at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas (see previous post).

Meanwhile, the rest of the Hot Pink Feathers will be performing at their monthly show with Blue Bone Express at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland this Saturday. There will be lots of jazz and lots of dancing, including romantic tributes to Pink Martini and Ella Fitzgerald and a Feathers act choreographed to the "Mad Men" theme song!

Living Legend of Burlesque benefit at Uptown Hubba Hubba Revue on Monday, May 10

It will be a very special evening at the Hubba Hubba Revue show this Monday at the Uptown in Oakland! The show not only will feature many of the San Francisco Bay Area's best burlesque performers, but it will also include appearances by Living Legends of Burlesque Ellion Ness and Viva La Fever!

The show will be a fundraiser for another Living Legend of Burlesque, Toni Elling (left), and the Burlesque Hall of Fame. The Living Legends of Burlesque are the performers who were shaking and shimmying in the previous heydays of burlesque during the middle of the twentieth century. Every year there is a "Titans of Tease" night in Las Vegas during the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend (June 3-6, this year) where the Living Legends perform. And Toni Elling needs your help to get there! And any additional funds raised will go to the BHoF itself.

Le Cabaret Noir's "Sin on Heels" tour comes to SF on Wednesday, March 10, 2010

This Wednesday, you'll have an opportunity to see many of Seattle's finest burlesque performers as Le Cabaret Noir's Sin on Heels tour comes to Broadway Studios in San Francisco!

Miss Indigo Blue, Sydni Deveraux, Fuchsia FoXXX, Waxie Moon, Inga Ingenue, and Ernie Von Schmaltz, Jenny Penny are performing in the show. You may remember some of them from the documentary, A Wink and a Smile (2008).

Also included in the cast for this San Francisco show are local burlesque luminaries Alotta Boutté and Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers!

It's a great opportunity to see some of Seattle's finest performers without having to travel to Seattle. Miss Indigo Blue is the headmistress of the Academy of Burlesque and has performed on stages across America and Europe and is one of the most recognizable names in burlesque today.

Sydni Deveraux is known as the Golden Glamazon for good reason! In person, she's amazingly tall, golden, and glamorous. Plus she's very talented, as she's the director of this show as well as a performer.

Fuchsia FoXXX has been voted Seattle's sexiest bellydancer and burlesque dancer in 2007 and 2008, respectively. She's also known as the "Hot Pink Exotic Machine." If you've seen her perform live, you'll know why!

When it comes to boylesque, Waxie Moon is unique. A classically trained actor and dancer, Waxie came to the world of neo-burlesque and put his own stamp on it with his performances. He's also the star of his own documentary, Waxie Moon (2009). He doesn't make it down to San Francisco that often, so catch him while you can!

When you think of "Little Blonde Bomb," who do you think of? Why, it should be Inga Ingenue! She's performed as a Reigning Queen of Burlesque (formerly Miss Exotic World) competitor at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas, at the Amsterdam Burlesque Festival, and the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, among many others. She's also been an instructor at Miss Indigo Blue's Academy of Burlesque.

Is it Elsa or Ernie Von Schmaltz? You can tell it's Ernie by the gold chains, bushy mustache, and pot belly hanging over his polyester leisure suit pants! His performances as a "ladies man" are hilarious. But I've always wondered what Elsa thinks of him...

Jenny Penny rounds out the cast, and Armitage Shanks will be your host for the evening.

It looks like a great show, and $20 is a lot less than plane fare to Seattle! $25 VIP seating and a $45 dinner package are available, and may be purchased in advance at Brown Paper Tickets.

Sin on Heels will be at the Broadway Studios in San Francisco for one night only. Broadway Studios is at 435 Broadway, between Kearney and Montgomery. Seating will begin at 7pm for those with dinner tickets, 7:30 for those with VIP tickets, and 8:00 for the general audience. The show is scheduled to begin at 9:00, and is approximately 90 minutes long.
