Kaleidoscope Cabaret Weekend happens October 28-30, 2010

Since 2007, Kaleidoscope Cabaret has been bringing together bring together performers of color for an all-star cabaret show. It's a unique neo-burlesque event that only takes place this year in San Francisco!

Founder and Artistic Director La Chica Boom started the showcase in 2007, dedicating it to showcasing people of color in burlesque and cabaret. With Tease-O-Rama on hiatus for the past two years, this event and Cabaret Verdalet are one of the few shows in the Bay Area where you can see burlesque talent from around the country all in one place.

Scheduled to perform at the Brava Theater in San Francisco on Saturday, October 30, will be Narcissister and Veronica Blair from New York, Orchid Mei from Denver, and Sydni Deveraux and Aleksa Manila from Seattle. Also featured will be local performers Sandra O. Noshi-Di’n't, Thisway/Thatway (aka Cecilio Cooper), the Grant Avenue Follies, Felatio “B.J.” Browne (Stephfon Bartée-Smith), Landa Lakes, Simone de la Getto, and La Chica Boom herself.

Tickets are $25 in advance at brownpapertickets.com (plus a $1.99 service fee), and may also be purchased at the door (if available). The doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. The Brava Theater is located at 2781 24th Street in San Francisco (map).

This year, in addition to the show on Saturday night, there will also be an educational symposium on Thursday afternoon at U.C. Berkeley and a Friday evening pre-party and social at San Francisco's Center for Sex and Culture, too!

Although burlesque has its roots as "low" entertainment for the masses, there is scholarly interest in the cultural and sociopolitical significance of the performances. On Thursday, October 28 from noon to 5 p.m. in room 370 of Dwinelle Hall at U.C. Berkeley, you'll have the opportunity to listen to a keynote address and panel discussion of Race Reveal: Racialized Tropes, Queer Performance, Political Possibilities. The titles of some of the panels and discussions include Pleasure, Power, and Profit in Race Performance, Queering Latin@ Subjectivities on Stage, and Racism, Minstrelsy, and Subversion in Burlesque Performance. The panelists will include performers such as Thisway/Thatway (Cecilio Cooper), Narcissiter, and La Chica Boom (Xandra Ibarra), among others. For a list of descriptions and abstracts for the panel please visit crg.berkeley.edu/content/race-reveal#abstracts. This event is free to the public.

On Friday, October 29, there will be a pre-party and social event at the Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It's a fantastic opportunity to have a drink and mix and mingle with the performers, scholars, and cast and crew of Kaleidoscope Cabaret. The Center for Sex and Culture is located at 1519 Mission Street in San Francisco, and the cost to attend is $5.

Little Minsky's Burlesque and Variety Show

Ladies and gents, the Little Minsky's crew is positively giddy to announce a slew of special guests from Seattle this Thursday at the old Club Deluxe. That's right, we've not one, not two but four fantastical feature attractions for your show time pleasure. Let's give a warm Minsky's welcome to Waxie Moon - the scintillating and scandalous boylesque sensation, Sydni Deveraux - the curvaceous golden glamazon, Fuschia Foxx - the gorgeous fusion bellydance burlesque goddess, and our host for the night Armitage Shanks - enigmatic co-founder and ringmaster of the illustrious Circus Contraption. And for our local lovelies we have the lithe and luscious Mynx d'Meanor, the sinfully seductive Lady Satan, the exotic temptress Gia Haad and the voluptuous vixen Kiss Me Kate. It's going to be one saucy and splendid night, so saunter on over and see you at the bar...

And if you're free Wednesday, you can see all our Seattle guests and more at Sin On Heels at Broadway Studios - a touring drag, burlesque, cabaret production directed by none other than Sydni Deveraux. For further info - http://www.the4horsemen.org/lecabaretnoir.

Le Cabaret Noir's "Sin on Heels" tour comes to SF on Wednesday, March 10, 2010

This Wednesday, you'll have an opportunity to see many of Seattle's finest burlesque performers as Le Cabaret Noir's Sin on Heels tour comes to Broadway Studios in San Francisco!

Miss Indigo Blue, Sydni Deveraux, Fuchsia FoXXX, Waxie Moon, Inga Ingenue, and Ernie Von Schmaltz, Jenny Penny are performing in the show. You may remember some of them from the documentary, A Wink and a Smile (2008).

Also included in the cast for this San Francisco show are local burlesque luminaries Alotta Boutté and Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers!

It's a great opportunity to see some of Seattle's finest performers without having to travel to Seattle. Miss Indigo Blue is the headmistress of the Academy of Burlesque and has performed on stages across America and Europe and is one of the most recognizable names in burlesque today.

Sydni Deveraux is known as the Golden Glamazon for good reason! In person, she's amazingly tall, golden, and glamorous. Plus she's very talented, as she's the director of this show as well as a performer.

Fuchsia FoXXX has been voted Seattle's sexiest bellydancer and burlesque dancer in 2007 and 2008, respectively. She's also known as the "Hot Pink Exotic Machine." If you've seen her perform live, you'll know why!

When it comes to boylesque, Waxie Moon is unique. A classically trained actor and dancer, Waxie came to the world of neo-burlesque and put his own stamp on it with his performances. He's also the star of his own documentary, Waxie Moon (2009). He doesn't make it down to San Francisco that often, so catch him while you can!

When you think of "Little Blonde Bomb," who do you think of? Why, it should be Inga Ingenue! She's performed as a Reigning Queen of Burlesque (formerly Miss Exotic World) competitor at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas, at the Amsterdam Burlesque Festival, and the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, among many others. She's also been an instructor at Miss Indigo Blue's Academy of Burlesque.

Is it Elsa or Ernie Von Schmaltz? You can tell it's Ernie by the gold chains, bushy mustache, and pot belly hanging over his polyester leisure suit pants! His performances as a "ladies man" are hilarious. But I've always wondered what Elsa thinks of him...

Jenny Penny rounds out the cast, and Armitage Shanks will be your host for the evening.

It looks like a great show, and $20 is a lot less than plane fare to Seattle! $25 VIP seating and a $45 dinner package are available, and may be purchased in advance at Brown Paper Tickets.

Sin on Heels will be at the Broadway Studios in San Francisco for one night only. Broadway Studios is at 435 Broadway, between Kearney and Montgomery. Seating will begin at 7pm for those with dinner tickets, 7:30 for those with VIP tickets, and 8:00 for the general audience. The show is scheduled to begin at 9:00, and is approximately 90 minutes long.

SIN ON HEELS: THE PROVOCATIVE AND SENSUAL SIDE OF THE 4 HORSEMEN/PURE CIRKUS TO TOUR THE WEST COAST MARCH 2010, SPONSORED BY GAY CITY

Le Cabaret Noir's "SIN ON HEELS", the provocative and sensual side of The 4 Horsemen/PURE Cirkus Productions, is a tantalizing cabaret-style production with a tawdry blend of burlesque and gender-bending performances. Merging the traditional with the newest forms of theater entertainment, "SIN ON HEELS" will be presented in theaters up and down the west coast this March 2010.

Part drag, part burlesque, part cabaret, "SIN ON HEELS" takes a daring playful approach by delving into the full array of human sexuality, sensuality and gender.
