BURLESQUE ‘N’ BRASS:
Dubbed "the coolest jazz brass band in Northern California" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland-based Blue Bone Express exposes the Bay Area to a type of jazz rarely heard beyond the Mississippi Delta. Combined with award-winning Hot Pink Feathers’ World Carnaval Cabaret dance, this explosive cabaret performance fuses music and dance traditions spanning the early-1900's New Orleans parades to the showgirl plumage of 1950's Rio de Janeiro Carnaval, the culture-clash hilarity of the '70s and '80s, and pushing through the present-day post-modern meltdown that is downtown Oakland.

“If you've never had the pleasure of seeing burlesque dancing performed to live jazz, then this is the place to start. It's like slugging down a pint of Uncle Peppy's moonshine after ten years of Nestea. It's sexy, spunky, sassy retro fun with all the heart and soul of Rio de Janeiro and the French Quarter, right there in downtown Oaktown. If you're looking for the perfect date, the perfect diversion, or just a chance to see an eminently sexy group of gifted hoofers grinding to hot jazz played by true enthusiasts, order a whiskey sour and settle into your seat for one of the best evenings the Bay Area has to offer.” ~Thomas Roche

La Chica Boom and Dr. Lucky at Red Hots Burlesque on Friday, October 15

Join birthday boy Johnny Crash at this Friday's Red Hots Burlesque for some really, really smart burlesque, led by Dr. Lucky of New York City and our very own La Chica Boom!

Red Hots flier, October 15, 2010

San Francisco's only weekly burlesque show promises bumps grinds and giggles galore, nothing new there...BUT this week we will be (1)Celebrating a grand birthday (2) Welcoming a NYC Celebrity and (3) Raising funds for La Chica Boom's annual POC performance weekend Kaleidoscope!

1. Johnny Crash- Red Hots Burlesque's beloved photographer is celebrating his birth. Come on out and take his photo for a change!

2. Dr. Lucky visits SF! Dr. Lucky is a seasoned performer, producer and educator. Over the past 10 years, Lucky has carved a space for herself with her unique comedic timing and over-the-top theatricality. She has been hailed a "big, bad, bold drag queen" by Bust magazine and has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition, NY1, Time.com, Washington Post, among others. Career highlights include co-hosting the Miss Exotic World Competition, headlining (and crowd surfing!) the New York Burlesque Festival, headlining the Toronto Burlesque Festival, sharing the stage with the Flaming Lips in front of 10,000 adoring fans (Virgin Music Festival), and performing at the Establishment (Rothbury Music Festival). Lucky is happy to collaborate with Julie Atlas Muz in their monthly show, Wanted! Though a huge fan of hyperbole, the prefix to her name is the one "real" thing about her: she is the only burlesque performer in the world with a PhD. For the past five years, she has taught unsuspecting drama students at New York University how to twirl tassels and think critically about burlesque.

3. There will be a raffle and a % of the door will go to raise funds for Kaleidoscope! Kaleidoscope's mission is to entertain and cast light on the knowledge, actions, and transformations that pertain to people of color performance and race positive sexuality. Kaleidoscope aims to develop, politicize and enrich the lives of cabaret performers of color by providing a high quality production that centers the artistic vitality of performers of color, an educational symposium that promotes the creative and intellectual growth of emerging and established performers of color, and a platform for local and national artists to build community. For the past three years Kaleidoscope has been showcased to sold out audiences. Kaleidoscope entertains, inspires, and arouses.

This is one week not to miss! Because there will also be performances by Simone Campell, Spy Girlfriday, La Chica Boom, Ruby White all hosted by Dottie Lux!

Our show also includes a screening of filthy and freaky film footage and tortuous tunage from Alex BIG Cox. Grab a drink, some *free* Oysters and BBQ at El Rio's famous happy hour ( voted "THE BEST OF THE BAY" by the SF Weekly) and watch us twitch and twatch!

This Friday , Oct 15th at El Rio
3158 Mission Street
The Show starts at 7:30pm! So don't be late!

Little Minsky's and Cirque Noir shows on Thursday, October 14

Dr. Lucky visits Little Minsky's this Thursday at Club Deluxe in San Francisco. Also known as Dr. Lukki, she is from New York City and is a renowned performer who also teaches the history of American burlesque at New York University in the drama department. She has also given lectures and taught practicum workshops about burlesque at CUNY, Miss Exotic World, The New York School of Burlesque, Toronto Burlesque Festival, and elsewhere.

So join Little Minsky's Douglas Good for an evening of drinks, socializing, burlesque, music, and comedy featuring your host, Kingfish of Hubba Hubba Revue, and starring Twinkletoes McGee, Twilight Vixen Revue (pictured), Kentucky Fried Woman, Lady Monster, and more!

Little Minsky's Burlesque/Variety Show

Ladies and gentlemen fasten your seat belts, it's gonna be a hot and bumpy night. If you're feeling a little blue, or could use a little pick-me-up we have just the thing as Dr. Abacus is in the house with their invigorating brand of cartoon jazz and vibraphonic concoctions. If they're playing and you're not smiling then you're not breathing. And if that doesn't do the trick, how's about special guest Dr. Lucky from New York, burlesque artist and historian who proves that lessons can be quite stimulating. Also pleased to welcome for the first time on the Minsky's stage the danceable, delightful boylesque sensation Twinkletoes McGee. And a rousing cheer for those shimmering showgirls the Twilight Vixen Revue, the fantabulous Kentucky Fried Woman, red hot Dottie Lux, luscious Lady Monster and devastating Ava Lanche. All this hosted by the notoriously hilarious Kingfish of the Hubba Hubba Revue.

Swing on by, pick your poison and enjoy the show...
