Reign change with Ruby Vixen and Bunny Pistol this week at Red Hots Burlesque

This week will feature a change in the reign of Red Hots Burlesque's featured performer of the month! At Wednesday's May 30 show, the featured performer will still be Ruby Vixen, but at Friday's June 1 show, it'll be Bunny Pistol!

Also performing this week will be The Lady Ms Vagina Jenkins, The Thrilllpeddlers, Babraham Lincoln, comedian Simone Campbell, Elyse Elaine, Rasa Vitalia, Nicki Sparxx, and more! Plus help celebrate the birthday of Patricia Misery! Friday's guest host will be Lady Satan! Please read below for the scheduled lineups for each night.

Also, don't forget that from 5:00 to 6:30 on Wednesday at El Rio before the show there will be a Finishing Touches workshop for all performers who would like some professional feedback on their acts. Fans flock to Bunny Pistol’s popular monthly show Barbary Coast Burlesque, established and running since 2006 and is currently at the world famous jazz venue Yoshi's, located in San Francisco's historical Fillmore district.
Bunny Pistol has been twirling tassels since 2006 and has continued to captivate audiences all over the US, England, Scotland, and France. She is a natural performer and has been studying dance since the age of 5. She was also a finalist for the Miss Viva Las Vegas Competition in 2008. She has performed in other major shows such as Viva Las Vegas, The Burlesque Hall of Fame, and Tease O' Rama.

Friday night free burlesque shows in SF and Oakland!

This evening, Bombshell Betty in San Francisco and First Friday Follies in Oakland will feature two shows without cover charges. So if the economy has got you down, you can let burlesque pick up your spirits for free!

Bombshell Betty has moved her Haute House Burlesque show at Milk Bar to the first Friday of the month. Plus, there's no cover charge to see the show now! There will still be Burlesqueteers performing, and tonight will feature special guests sword-swallower Molotov and band Vagabondage!

Over in the East Bay, First Friday Follies will be presenting "Blue Velvet Highway Follies", which will be a David Lynch tribute show at the Stork Club in Oakland. As usual, it's a free show, but donations are always appreciated! In addition to the burlesque, there will be music from the Thralls, and comedy from Simone Campbell.

The show is at 9:00 p.m. at the Stork Club in Oakland, which is located at 2330 Telegraph Avenue (map). You can walk from the 19th Street BART station, but it's a decent walk. Though it'll be entertaining as you'll pass by a lot of the art galleries which will be open for Oakland Art Murmur, and you may even pass by the Great Wall of Oakland!

Red Hots Burlesque's Friday show and Saturday's Dr. Sketchy's East Bay premiere!

If you've been a subscriber of Dottie Lux's weekly newsletter or been going to the shows, you've been keeping track of the growth of Red Hots Burlesque. What was once a weekly show on Friday evenings at El Rio is now one of several RHB programs. And this week will see the continued evolution of this phenomenon.

This Thursday evening saw the premiere of the monthly show of "Go Deep: Let's Wrestle" which was the first of the monthly RHB shows featuring lube wrestling and burlesque. The next one will be happening on May 5, which will be Cinco de Mayo! So start making your plans now!

This Friday, you can still catch the original Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio. This week's lineup will include some out-of-towners including Vixen Valentine and Lowa de BoomBoom of Seattle! Plus you'll get to experience local burlesque favorite such as Simone Campbell, Delilah, The Empress, Cyanide Cyn, and RHB's very own Dottie Lux!

And don't forget that on May 4, Red Hots will be expanding to both Wednesdays and Fridays of the week!

And, finally, Red Hots Burlesque is producing the East Bay version of Dr. Sketchy's. This anti-art school that got it's beginnings in burlesque is screamingly successful, and is now found in over 100 cities in 16 countries on five continents. That's quite a successful almost six-year run! And if you've been to any of the San Francisco events lately, you can see why it's successful. Live models in amazing outfits for you to draw!

Now, those of you artists in the East Bay don't need to travel across a bridge to attend a Dr. Sketchy's, since RHB is bringing Dr. Sketchy's to the East Bay! This Saturday, Dr. Sketchy's East Bay premieres at the Layover Lounge in Oakland, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The guest models and performers will be The Can-Cannibals!

Join birthday boy Johnny Crash at this Friday's Red Hots Burlesque for some really, really smart burlesque, led by Dr. Lucky of New York City and our very own La Chica Boom!

San Francisco's only weekly burlesque show promises bumps grinds and giggles galore, nothing new there...BUT this week we will be (1)Celebrating a grand birthday (2) Welcoming a NYC Celebrity and (3) Raising funds for La Chica Boom's annual POC performance weekend Kaleidoscope!

1. Johnny Crash- Red Hots Burlesque's beloved photographer is celebrating his birth. Come on out and take his photo for a change!

2. Dr. Lucky visits SF! Dr. Lucky is a seasoned performer, producer and educator. Over the past 10 years, Lucky has carved a space for herself with her unique comedic timing and over-the-top theatricality. She has been hailed a "big, bad, bold drag queen" by Bust magazine and has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition, NY1, Time.com, Washington Post, among others. Career highlights include co-hosting the Miss Exotic World Competition, headlining (and crowd surfing!) the New York Burlesque Festival, headlining the Toronto Burlesque Festival, sharing the stage with the Flaming Lips in front of 10,000 adoring fans (Virgin Music Festival), and performing at the Establishment (Rothbury Music Festival). Lucky is happy to collaborate with Julie Atlas Muz in their monthly show, Wanted! Though a huge fan of hyperbole, the prefix to her name is the one "real" thing about her: she is the only burlesque performer in the world with a PhD. For the past five years, she has taught unsuspecting drama students at New York University how to twirl tassels and think critically about burlesque.

3. There will be a raffle and a % of the door will go to raise funds for Kaleidoscope! Kaleidoscope's mission is to entertain and cast light on the knowledge, actions, and transformations that pertain to people of color performance and race positive sexuality. Kaleidoscope aims to develop, politicize and enrich the lives of cabaret performers of color by providing a high quality production that centers the artistic vitality of performers of color, an educational symposium that promotes the creative and intellectual growth of emerging and established performers of color, and a platform for local and national artists to build community. For the past three years Kaleidoscope has been showcased to sold out audiences. Kaleidoscope entertains, inspires, and arouses.

Oakland burlesque! First Friday Follies happens this Friday, October 1

Oakland has several regularly scheduled burlesque shows, but there is only one show happening this Friday night in the East Bay at the Stork Club! And that means that it's got to be time for First Friday Follies, Oakland's own community-supported giggles and jiggles!

Towards the end of this month's Oakland Art Murmur, the art walk that happens on the first Friday of the month in Oakland's Uptown district, the Stork Club will welcome burlesque fans for a free show that will feature Fella Fem's Dicky Luv, Bitter Waitress, Rubenesque Burlesque, Francine Dead (read the SFBR interview!), Cupcake, and more!

This month's show will start at 9 p.m. and will feature emcees Juicy D. Light and Simone Campbell! And you'll not want to miss comedian Candy Churilla, who has appeared on NBC's Last Comic Standing, KFOX's Greg Kihn Show, was a third place winner of California's Funniest Female Contest in 2009, and was recently on Creepy KOFY Movie Time!
