Fou Fou Ha!'s "Out of Order", April 3 -5, 2009

Just an update concerning the dates of that show. I received a response from Mama Calizo's Voice Factory, and "Out of Order" will be performed by Fou Fou Ha! this Friday through Sunday, April 3 through 5, at 8pm. The dates on the MCVF website are incorrect.

Kitten on the Keys and Fou Fou Ha! this weekend

Kitten on the Keys and Fou Fou Ha! both have shows this weekend at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory. Kitten's show, "Does This Piano Make My Ass Look Big?" (previous post) is at 8pm on Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4, and at 2pm on Sunday, April 5. This is the last weekend to see her show, so don't miss it!

I may need to correct this past Monday's post. The Mama Calizo's Voice Factory website (www.voicefactorysf.org) lists the dates for Fou Fou Ha!'s "Out of Order" (previous post) as being April 5-7. Yet Fou Fou Ha!'s website (www.foufouha.com) lists the shows as being April 3-5, as does the Brown Paper Tickets page (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/59785). I've sent an email out to the artists and the venue, so I'll let you know which set of dates is the correct ones once I get a response. I've a hunch that the shows are April 3-5, though.

First Friday Follies and the Art of Deneane Niebergall, Friday, April 3, 2009

It's the first Friday of the month, so what does that mean? Yes! It's time for First Friday Follies and Oakland Art Murmur, which is the art walk. Only you murmur while walking. Just kidding! There is a map of the Art Murmur at www.oaklandartmurmur.com/pages/Jmap/Jmap.php. The Stork Club is near the Buzz Gallery on Telegraph Avenue.

But before we get to the FFF lineup, Deneane Niebergall of the Burlesqueteers has new work as part of a four person show, "Surface Tension," which has an opening reception from 6pm to 9. So before you head out to the Stork Club for FFF, check out the Chandra Cerrito Contemporary at 25 Grand Avenue, upper level. It's just a few blocks away. Click the link for a map. And say hi to Deneane!

Alrighty, without further ado, here is what you can expect at the Stork Club!

It's a good idea to get out to the Stork Club by about 9pm or earlier. The way the club is set up, only the first three or so rows of standing people can see the stage. It's not elevated, so the people in back have a hard time seeing the acts. One tip is to look at the mirror that lines the right side of the club. Sometimes you can see what's going on in the reflection!

Bombshell Betty and Fromagique benefit for Ruby Lee Rouge, Thursday, April 2, 2009

Just a reminder that Bombshell Betty and Fromagique have put together a benefit show for burlesque performer Ruby Lee Rouge (aka Stella Lane from Dames of Glory) who was injured backstage at a show. The show is also a celebration of Betty's five year anniversary teaching burlesque in San Francisco. So head on out to Annie's Social Club Thursday night for some entertainment and catered food from Thyme to Eat Cafe and Catering!

Free Catering, Raffles, and more burlesque in one night than you'll see almost anywhere in the Bay Area!

We all know there is no a group health plan or even work's comp. for burlesque performers. So what happens when one of us gets injured at a performance and can't even work in any capacity for several months? If you said, "Move home to Mama!", you would usually be right. Stella Lane from Dames of Glory (Stage name Ruby Lee Rouge) is in need of help for every mounting hospital bills due to an injury she got while backstage at a show.

. . . . And while you're at it . . . .

Bombshell Betty has been teaching professional burlesque dancers and hobbiest in the SF Bay Area for 5 years. She has taught THOUSANDS of ladies how to shimmy and shake their way on stage or just that special someone at home. Betty opened her own dedicated burlesque studio in March of '07 on her third anniversary and shows no signs of slowing down! Come out to and help her celebrate her 5th anniversary with three hours of burlesque!
