Burlesque benefit show for Madame E on Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Madame E, a member of the Burlesque Hall of Fame and legendary performer, has recently been treated for breast cancer. And like many in the community, she doesn't have good medical coverage, and treatment is very expensive!

To help defray some of the costs, Bunny Pistol's Barbary Coast Burlesque is dedicating a benefit show for Madame E on Wednesday, November 19, at Annie's Social Club in San Francisco. Here are all the details:

Barbary Coast Burlesque is proud to announce that we are dedicating this month's show to Madame E. Our November show will be a benefit in her honor. Madame E is a member of The Burlesque Hall of Fame who has been battling breast cancer. So, to ease some of her financial strain due to not being able to work and costly hospital bills, a few of us have come together to raise money by twirling and shaking our stuff!!! All money made at the door and raffle will be given to her.

Raffle? Yes, we will be raffling all kinds of great prizes!!

Whew! Doing this online promotion volunteer work for Tease-O-Rama is quite time-intensive! I've been editing and fiddling with the wording of different posts that have gone on different mailing lists and event listing boards. Here is one of the fruits of my labor that deals with the next Bay Area burlesque show on Thursday evening.

SF Bay Area burlesque for the weekend of Friday, September 5

Alright, cats and kittens! We got two shows for ya'll today, this fine and hot weekend. The first show is the weekly Red Hots Burlesque at the El Rio in the Mission.

You know and love the driving force behind Hubba Hubba and Red Hots Burlesque is *proud* to welcome his brand of (bulldog) humor. Welcome back, KINGFISH! He is joined by an amazing London-based Australian burlesque artist and belly dancer, Miss Sapphria as well as Miss Honey Penny (with surprise guest Ruby White), Mariel A La Mode, Delilah and Dottie Lux. So come this week and see what all the fuss is about!

And, just after Red Hots comes First Friday Follies across the Bay! In fact, Dottie Lux is scheduled to perform at FFF, so wave to her if you see her crossing the Bay Bridge!

As usual, FFF starts pretty much at the end of the monthly art walk. So, after you've dropped into some galleries and visually consumed some fine art, you can catch a free show at the Stork Club. They've got some premium performers including the Devil-Ettes, Dottie, sASSy HotBuns, musician Mark Growden, host Scotty the Blue Bunny, and the show's producers, the Belles du Jour!



Also this Saturday and Sunday, there are some shows featuring Kellita and the Hot Pink Feathers. On Saturday and Sunday, Kellita will be performing as dancer and actress Lola Montez (Wikipedia entry) in the park in Union Square. It's a free "living history" show being presented by the Fringe Festival and Greedy Fish.

San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for the week of July 21, 2008

Wow. I was really exhausted by last week's burlesque events. It's taken me several days to rest up! Which is good, because another week of burlesque fun is upon us!

• Monday, July 28: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown Club in Oakland. The Two-Man Gentleman Band performs with Lady Satan, Honey LeBang and others! Doors at 9pm, show at 10. $5 cover, 21+ w/ID.
• Wednesday, July 30: Burlesqueteers at Stagewerx in San Francisco. Assorted and sundry Burlesqueteers perform for your pleasure. Doors at 7pm, show at 8. $15 ($12 w/advance purchase).
• Also Wednesday: Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers performs in Tinkel Tangel at the Bubble Lounge in SF. Anna Conda and Basil Twist will also perform. Show at 10pm, Kellita performs at 11. $10 (includes one drink), 21+ w/ID.
• Friday, Aug 1: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco. Show at 7:30pm. $5-10 sliding scale, 21+ w/ID.
• Also Friday: First Friday Follies at the Stork Club in Oakland. Margaret France hosts a show including Bunny Pistol, the Belles Du Jour, and more! Show at 9pm. Free, 21+ w/ID.
• Saturday, August 2: Menagerie at Kimo's Penthouse Lounge in SF. Devillia de Dallas and Delilah bring you an animal kingdom-themed show. Doors and specials at 9pm, show at 10. $12, $8 if if in animal costume, 21+ w/ID.

Well, sounds like a fill week of frolic! Some of the events are at venues at which I haven't seen shows, so that's always interesting. And I guess Scotty won't have to dress up for that Menagerie show! Haha.

Burlesque shows this weekend, June 28 and 29

Here's a quick rundown of the shows coming up on Saturday and Sunday.

The Belles du Jour will be performing as part of the DIY Expo at the Stork Club in Oakland. They'll take the stage at 5:30pm. It's free!




Amelia Mae Paradise and the Diamond Daggers will be having their Dyke March After Party at 111 Minna in SF. The doors are at 8pm, and the show begins at 9. There will be dancing afterwards. Cover is $12-20 on a sliding scale.



Red Hots Burlesque will be having their show as presented by Madame Maraschino at Benders in SF. Doors at 9pm, show will follow shortly. Probably 9:30 or 10. Cover is $8.

And, lastly, Saturday will be your last chance to catch the Q-baret Spectacular with Twilight Vixen Revue and SF Boylesque. It will be at the Garage in SF. 8pm. Tickets are $10-15 on a sliding scale.

Once again Juanita MORE is hosting the hottest San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade - After Party. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit The New Leaf Outreach to Elders Program. The afternoon benefit includes dancing to the hottest beats by some of Miss MORE's favorite DJs - Chelsea Starr (Hot Pants, Booty Call), James Glass, Robot Hustle (Honey Sound System), and The Bearded Lady (Chili Dog) & Steve Summers. A spectacular performance by Harlem Shake Burlesque & Diamond Daggers that is not to be missed! San Francisco's ONLY pool party is only a couple of blocks away from Civic Center which this makes Bambuddha Lounge the perfect spot for you and your friends to celebrate. There will be a limited amount of tickets available this year.
