Mardi Gras shows with the Hot Pink Feathers this Saturday and next Tuesday!

Whenever one thinks of burlesque shows on Fat Tuesday, one thinks of the Hot Pink Feathers! This coming Fat Tuesday, March 8, the Feathers will be having a show with their musical cohorts Blue Bone Express at Yoshi's in San Francisco!

Yes, it'll be just like being in New Orleans when you see this show! It's a fantastic way to celebrate Mardi Gras. Hot dancing from the Feathers, hot New Orleans jazz from Blue Bone Express, all in Yoshi's beautiful club in the Fillmore. It will be an evening to remember!

The show will start at 9:30 p.m., and the doors will open at 8:00. Yoshi's is at 1330 Fillmore Street (map). Cover will be $10.00, and you'll need to be 21 or older to get in.

If you have some free time before the show, you can catch Head Feather Queen Kellita and King Everett as they will be recognized with all Carnaval SF Royalty (short performance!). Kellita was Carnaval SF Queen in 2008. They will at perform at Medjool Lounge, 2522 Mission Street (map), from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 (event continues until 9:00). Admission will be $10.00.

And don't forget that this Saturday, March 5, the Hot Pink Feathers and Blue Bone Express will have their monthly show Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, where every first Saturday is Mardi Gras!

Next month will be the start of Burlesque n' Brass being on the second Saturday evening of the month. So mark your calendars!

It'll be three sets of performances from HPF, and three sets of music from BBX! And this month, Kellita sings!

The show will start at 9:30 p.m., and the doors will open at 8:30. Cafe Van Kleef is located at 1621 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland (map). Cover is $10.00, and once again you need to be at least 21 years of age.

Last Minute Notice: Carnaval SF 2009 King and Queen

Last night was a blast, both at the Hypnodrome for the Lily Burana signing and Sugar Shack and at Club Deluxe for Little Minsky's 4th Anniversary Show. I'm trying to work through the inbox today, but last night was so totally worth it!

One of the events mentioned before the Hot Pink Feathers were introduced at Little Minsky's last night was the competition for the King and Queen of Carnaval SF 2009. If you find yourself near Cafe Cocomo tonight, you may want to drop in! Here's the notice from the Queen herself:

Feather Maggie has sent me the very latest news about what the Hot Pink Feathers are up to. The winners of SFBG's Best of the Bay 2008 Best Dance Company are looking for YOU to join them at the Grand Carnaval Parade in San Francisco on May 24, 2009. You'll get trained in dance moves by the Queen and Head Feather herself, Kellita! Here are the details:

Unleash your inner showgirl and shimmy in the streets with a group of inclusive and supportive dancers. Be the star that you ARE! This is your chance to dance in the 31st Annual Grand Carnaval SF Parade with SFBG's Best of the Bay 2008 Best Dance Company, Hot Pink Feathers. Learn saucy moves & choreographies from the reigning Queen of Carnaval SF, Kellita! Kellita to join Red Hots Burlesque for Friday, January 16, 2009

After heating up Barbary Coast Burlesque on Wednesday, Queen Kellita isn't finished with SF yet. No sirree! She's been added to the Red Hots Burlesque show for this Friday! Woo hoo!

Joining Kellita will be Peaches Velour, Amelia Mae Paradise, and Dottie Lux.


Red Hots Burlesque takes place every Friday at El Rio, 3158 Mission Street, San Francisco (Google map). The show starts at 7:30, and cover is on a sliding scale between $5 and $10. Pay what you can afford. The El Rio is a bar, so patrons must be 21 or older.

HOT PINK FEATHERS SHOWGIRL ACADEMY FALL SESSIONS I, II, III:
AUDITION:

***AUDITION CLASS to join Hot Pink Feathers company through ODC AUDITION CLASS SERIES at ODC Commons, 351 Shotwell St. between 17th and 18th, on SUNDAY 9/21 11-1pm (see below for full details)

This audition will take place in a class format, including warm-up. The feeling will be welcoming and relaxed, not the typical "audition with a chill." Hot Pink Feathers seeks 5-6 female dancers to join our core company for on-going performances in a variety of venues. Rehearsals will likely be Mon noonish, Tues eve & other TBA time. Compensation includes performance pay (for many gigs), training, and great comraderie. Strong candidates are dancers who exude joy & delight, have gorgeous dance lines, an innate and acute sense of rhythm and musicality, have mastered both fluidity and sharpness of movement, articulate hips and chest well, and express through to the fingertips, toes and via face. Dancers with extensive and varied performance experience preferred. Be comfortable both in front of large audiences, and in small venues, where the 4th wall is very thin. Some new members will tour with us, so flexible schedules are a big plus!

Hot Pink Feathers help celebrate Peter Van Kleef's birthday on Saturday, July 12, 2008

Our friends, the fabulous Hot Pink Feathers, will be performing with Blue Bone Express to celebrate the birthday of Peter Van Kleef, the owner of Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland.

Just down the street from the Uptown and Stork Clubs, Cafe Van Kleef is a pretty cool place to hang out. I visited for the first time during the intermission of Uptown Hubba Hubba. The one thing I'm really curious about is how the HPFs (both the Company and Parade Corps) will all fit on the small stage! I'm sure they'll figure something out, but it should be really fun to see!
