The Lair of Lady Monster Radio Show for Saturday, August 1, 2009

Lady Monster returns to the airwaves this Saturday for an interview with supervixen Sahara Dunes of Portland, Oregon. Here's what Lady Monster says about this frequent Bay Area performer!

My August 1st broadcast features Portland's Caribbean Sapphic Burlesque Sweetheart, Sahara Dunes.

She's got a heart of gold and eyes of fire. Sahara is a sassy, sinister, and sensual creature that will suck you into the movements of her hips. Her long legs have been known to be lethal and she's got a figure that stops traffic.

She's a tassel twirlin', shimmy shakin', sassy stripteasin', artist and she's comin' for you! Some say she was born with it. Some say she is self taught. Either way, her gift of dance and art will entertain and mesmerize you.

I saw Lady Monster at the Feed fundraiser last night, and she was looking and sounding great!

SF Bay Area burlesque for the week of April 27, 2009

Looking over the calendar, this is gonna be one very busy week for all of us fans of burlesque in the San Francisco Bay Area!

From the regular events of Dr. Sketchy's SF, Uptown Hubba Hubba, and Red Hots Burlesque, to the return of Madame Maraschino's House of Burlesque and Swing Goth's Second Anniversary, there's a slew of shows to choose from the whole week through. • Monday, April 27, 2009: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. It's an all-star lineup for the show that bids April adieu! Join your host Mr. Eddie Dane and burlesquers Sparkly Devil, Miss Balla Fire, Madam Chartreuse, Josie Starre, The Riff Ditties Orchestra, Kiss Me Kate, Honey LeBang, and Miss Mae Western! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5, 21+ w/ID.


• Also Monday: Dr. Sketchy's SF at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, 111 Minna Street. Bring your sketchpad and join Devil-Ettes The Glamazon, The Sugar Snap and The Knockout as they model and perform for you! Or you can attend and meet with artist Eric Joyner, creator of the book "Robots and Donuts." It's all good! 7 to 10pm. $10 general, $7 students, free if you hang out at the bar with Eric. 21+ w/ID.


• Tuesday, April 28: Mixed Level World Cabaret Carnaval Class and Open Rehearsal w/Hot Pink Feathers at The Ballet Studio in SF, 128 10th Street. Curious about how the Hot Pink Feathers learn their moves and rehearse them? As part of Bay Area National Dance Week, you can observe a class and a rehearsal for free! Class is from 7:30 to 8:30, rehearsal from 8:30 to 10:30.


• Also Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29: SF Boylesque's Das Kabarett: RECESS-I$-ON at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory in SF, 1519 Mission Street. In a time of budget cuts and global economic crisis, Boylesque is throwing caution to the wind and staging their largest show yet. More dancers, more singers, more musicians, more flesh, more laughs add up to equal more fun for all! • Thursday, April 30: Swing Goth 2nd Anniversary w/Lee Presson and the Nails in association with Hubba Hubba Revue at DNA Lounge in SF, 375 11th Street. Swing Goth is celebrating 2 years, and proving that sometimes it takes an anniversary to make the perfect marriage. Lee Presson and the Nails (the only sinister swing band) and Swing Goth are together at last!! Also on the bill: Fromagique (just consider them Swing Cheese) and San Francisco's best new goth band... Featuring burlesque, go-go beauties, and enough garage rock, girl-groups and R'n'B to keep you dancin' all night long! Starring DJs Sergio Iglesias (Teenage Dance Craze), Matt Bonar (1964), and Russell Quann (The Mummies) in the main room. A fond adieu to Madame Maraschino's House of Burlesque on Saturday, July 26

It looks like the long-running House of Burlesque produced by Madame Maraschino is coming to an end. She has mentioned in a MySpace bulletin that she's moving to the East Bay and that Bunny Pistol will be producing a show at Bender's called "Bunny Hut Burlesque" starting in September.

However, it doesn't all end until after Saturday's show, so you still have one more chance to get out and see what all the fuss was about. Here is the bulletin that MM sent out:

That is right, kids! I'm movin on from producing dangerous curves to explore other dangerous ventures.

My last House of Burlesque will be Saturday, July 26th, so come out and say hello to me, good-bye to a very much loved & long running show, AND especially enjoy all of THE VERY TALENTED performers that made House of Burlesque what it is! I can't even tell you how much I love all of you!

I will be co-producing this show with and passing the torch to a very good friend of mine, Bunny Pistol, whom I know will continue to rock Benders in a very naughty manner! Look for her first show “Bunny Hut Burlesque” at Benders in September!

We have an awesome line up with music by Horror-X and The Vaudvilles!
A burlesque showcase with: Isis Starr, Esperanza, Bunny Pistol, Miss DeMinna, Sassy Hotbuns, Dangerous Curves, Ameana Darkheart, sultry torch singer Velvet Siren & your most dignified & charming host, KINGFISH! AND my favorite DJ Chas Gaudi!

I will eventually set up the HOB again in the future, but slowly relocating all business affairs to the East Bay. So, watch out for everything MARASCHINO in the EB!

I remember that this was one of the first shows I ever attended that was in a bar in the Mission. I still remember MM waving and smiling at me. I'm sure we'll all miss her until she resurfaces again!

San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for the week of July 21, 2008

It's feeling a lot like mid-summer in the Bay Area now. Freezing in the City. Haha!

Well, there is no better cure for the cold, foggy conditions like some hot burlesque! Woooo! And it appears that there are enough shows this week so that you can make at least one of them.

• Monday, July 21: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown Club in Oakland. Burlesqueteer Night! Doors at 9pm, show at 10. $5 cover, 21+ w/ID.
• Wednesday, July 23: For the Love of Candye at the El Rio in San Francisco. Benefit for Candye Kane featuring performances of her songs and many acts. Doors at 7pm, show at 8. $10-20 sliding scale, though they say no one is turned away.
• Friday, July 25: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco. Lady Satan hosts a special show to celebrate Cherry Gallante's birthday. 7:30-9pm. $5-10 sliding scale. 21+ w/ID.
• Saturday, July 26: Madame Maraschino's House of Burlesque at Bender's Bar in San Francisco. Say goodbye to Madame Maraschino as she passes the baton to Bunny Pistol. Doors at 9pm, show at 10. $8 cover. 21+ w/ID.
• Friday to Sunday, July 25-27: Nouveau Burlesque Revue 2 at Caspar Community Center near Mendocino. The superstars of burlesque perform in picturesque Mendocino and hold workshops. Shows at 8pm. $20. 18+, please.

Not sure how many of you folks will be headed up to Mendocino/Fort Bragg this weekend, but there will be burlesque there if you are going! It is really a nice setting, and you can find accomodations in Fort Bragg. And if you aren't headed out of town, there'll be several shows here in the Bay Area for ya!
