Mangos with Chili presents Divas & Heroes this Friday, August 14, 2009

Join Mangos with Chili as they present the second in a series of Mama Calizo's Crash Cabarets at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts this Friday, August 14 at 8pm. Burlesque sweetheart Ms. Cherry Galette is one of the cofounders of the troupe and will be performing.

There will also be other, free events starting at 5pm. So get there early for the Crash Pad, Snappy Hour and some music with MCs and Dwayne Calizo's BandAIDS.

If you've missed all our shows and want a mid-summer taste of Mangos, come through and check us out! We're excited to be at YBCA in partnership with Dwayne Calizo and Mama Calizo's Voice Factory to bring you this cabaret-style night of story, sounds, and reveals! Seating in the theater is limited, but the show will be broadcast for all to see on a wall of television screens in the main lobby area of YBCA.

The Mangos With Chili crew is aching to give you another night of unforgettable performance on queer and trans people of color stories of survival, resistance, lust, ghosts and dreams through our high intensity theater, dance, drag, burlesque and words.

Mangos With Chili is a Bay Area based arts organization committed to showcasing high quality work of life saving importance by queer and trans artists of color to audiences in the Bay Area and beyond. Mangos With Chili has performed to sold out houses across North America, wowing audiences in world class theaters, underground performance spaces, bars, and campus halls with their high intensity, breathtaking performance, politics, and storytelling craft, reflecting the lives and stories of queer and trans people of color and speaking out in resistance to the daily struggles around silence, isolation, homophobia, and violence that QTPOC face.

The Kentucky Fried Woman Show: Drag & Burlesque Commando on Friday, July 3, 2009

Last minute posting of an event for tonight! Kentucky Fried Woman has a show at Velvet in Oakland, and it'll feature some of the area's top burlesque performers! Even Dottie Lux will once again make the trip over to Oakland after her own show in San Francisco, Red Hots Burlesque (previous post), to perform. Here's the information that I've scraped off the "Interwebs" about the show:

Featuring the very best drag and burlesque artists in an ALL-IMPROV Show! The music is ready to go and the performers and audience are in for a WILD night of fun and adventure. You are not going to believe how much fun this is going to be! A great way to kick off the 4th of JULY weekend and as always, there will be a dance party after the show. This is an awesome event! Burlesque n' Brass tonight, Cabaret de Nude on Sunday, January 4, 2008

Catch Kellita with the rest of the Hot Pink Feathers (www.hotpinkfeathers.com) and Blue Bone Express (www.blueboneexpress.com) tonight (Saturday) at Cafe Van Kleef (www.cafevankleef.com), 1621 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland. Doors are at 8:30pm, show begins at 9:30. Cost is $10 for all those 21 and older.

Ms. Cherry Gallete sent me a notice that she is producing a show that will be touring, and the first stops are in SF and Oakland! The first show is later today!

Mangos With Chili Queer Borderlands Tour 2008 Kicks off in SF on 10/10!

Mangos with Chili, the floating cabaret of queer and trans people of color bliss, dreams, sweat, sweets & nightmares, is pleased to announce the Bay Area kick off of our 2008 Queer Borderlands Tour.

Launching on Columbus Day weekend in resistance to the legacy of imperialism and colonization reflected by the commemoration of the holiday, Mangos with Chili will present two evenings of unforgettable and history-making performance in both San Francisco and Oakland. The show will feature new work in the genres of dance, vaudeville, poetry, spoken word, theater, burlesque, performance memoir, and hip hop addressing the themes of border transgressions, migrations, deportations, relocation, displacement, legacy and the struggle to create new worlds, and in celebration of queer lives, stories, and the legacies we are creating for future generations of queer and trans people of color.
