Hot Pink Feathers split their squad for an SF show and an East Bay show this Saturday, June 9

The acclaimed Bay Area dance troupe, Hot Pink Feathers, will be splitting up this Saturday. No, no. They didn't break up over an argument over who had the hottest pink feathers, but they'll be performing at two different shows that night! One group will be performing at Twang Bang Hillbilly Music and Burlesque Show at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, and the other will be performing at their monthly Burlesque n' Brass show in Oakland at Cafe Van Kleef!

The Feathers will be providing the burlesque at the Twang Bang Hillbilly Music and Burlesque Show. Providing the hillbilly music? The Dirty Hand Family Band, The Famous, The Shants, and The Rogers! Should be a good, foot-stomping time for everyone age 6 and older!

The Great American Music Hall is located at 859 O'Farrell Street in San Francisco (map). The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30. Tickets start at $13.00, and run up to $37.95 if you want dinner there. Tickets may be purchase online at www.slimspresents.com.

Shelby Ash Presents
TWANG BANG
A Hot Night of Twisted Twang, Hillbilly Music & Sexy Burlesque!
Featuring: The Hot Pink Feathers + The Dirty Hand Family Band
The Famous + The Shants + The Rogers

There are two kinds of twang in this world; good and bad. Twang Bang is a combination of them both. Part rockabilly blues, part post-punk Americana, part slow-burning alt-country, part dirty country-rock with a groove, and laced with the sexiest burlesque dancers in these parts. It’s good to be bad!

THE HOT PINK FEATHERS (SF)
Where Carnaval meets Cabaret : Hot Pink Feathers perform World Cabaret Showgirl dance. Recently voted "Best Dance Company" in the SF Bay Guardian “Best of the Bay” polls, the Feathers are committed to Delighting the World, One Showgirl at a Time. Think Busby Berkeley choreographing an ethnic dance festival, with Carmen Miranda, Josephine Baker, Lola Montez & Little Egypt as his side kicks.

THE DIRTY HAND FAMILY BAND (SF)
We came together with one common idea; that our songs should sound good on stage or around a front porch. We are story tellers. We tell of our lives and how we came together, pulling from old-time gospel, country and blues. Making light of dark times, we sing hymns that skip rocks on the soul. All are welcome in The Dirty Hand Family Band. Bring A shaker or shake your ass, either way it's a damn good time!

THE FAMOUS (SF)
A shot of classic country with a post-punk chaser.
“If country music's original outlaws had made their break with Nashville in the post-punk era, it might have sounded a lot like the Famous.” –No Depression
“The Famous arrange a standoff between the Pixies in a cowboy hat and Hank Williams on speed, six-shooters loaded with punk and rockabilly, and whaddya know – that bastard alt-country genre gets shot square in the forehead, with a stray bullet no less.” —West Coast Performer

THE SHANTS (Oakland)
The Shants’ slow-burning sound originates from the rural backgrounds of its members: from South Louisiana delta pines, to the brusk plains of Minnesota to the rolling hills of the Central California Coast. The Shants now call Oakland, California home.

THE ROGERS (Oakland)
The Rogers create their own take on Americana, borrowing from alt-country, gypsy jazz, folk, honky-tonk, afro-rhythm, sweet slide guitar, as well as dueling guitars.

MORE ABOUT BURLESQUE ‘N’ BRASS:
Dubbed "the coolest jazz brass band in Northern California" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland-based Blue Bone Express exposes the Bay Area to a type of jazz rarely heard beyond the Mississippi Delta. Combined with award-winning Hot Pink Feathers’ World Carnaval Cabaret dance, this explosive cabaret performance fuses music and dance traditions spanning the early-1900's New Orleans parades to the showgirl plumage of 1950's Rio de Janeiro Carnaval, the culture-clash hilarity of the '70s and '80s, and pushing through the present-day post-modern meltdown that is downtown Oakland.

“If you've never had the pleasure of seeing burlesque dancing performed to live jazz, then this is the place to start. It's like slugging down a pint of Uncle Peppy's moonshine after ten years of Nestea. It's sexy, spunky, sassy retro fun with all the heart and soul of Rio de Janeiro and the French Quarter, right there in downtown Oaktown. If you're looking for the perfect date, the perfect diversion, or just a chance to see an eminently sexy group of gifted hoofers grinding to hot jazz played by true enthusiasts, order a whiskey sour and settle into your seat for one of the best evenings the Bay Area has to offer.” ~Thomas Roche
