Los Shimmy Shakers free CD release party tonight at Alameda's Lucky 13

One of the bands that got its start around the burlesque scene in the Bay Area, Los Shimmy Shakers, will be having a free East Bay CD release party at Lucky 13 in Alameda tonight!

In addition to hearing songs from their latest CD, "Stiletto Nocturne," you can see Mistress Marla Spanks, and Anni Boelyn and Gurdy Leigh of the Kountry Kittens burlesque troupe shaking to the sounds of Los Shimmy Shakers! Plus sideshow performer Molotov will also be making a thrilling appearance.

Lucky 13 is at 1301 Park Street in Alameda (map). The doors open at 8:00 p.m., and the show starts at 10:00. It's a free show.

Los Shimmy Shakers East Bay Record Release Party

FREE SHOW for our friends in the east bay celebrating our new record "Stiletto Nocturne" at Lucky 13 in Alameda, CA.

Busy weekend in San Francisco Bay Area burlesque!

This weekend, there are quite a few burlesque shows to see, especially tonight. From sASSy Hotbuns' Honky-Tonk Burlesque on Friday afternoon to Kentucky Fried Woman's tribute show to the late Whitney Houston on Sunday evening, it's bound to be a fun time for burlesque fans.

And for this weekend, the "round-up" format returns! Yay!

Also note that the Mischievous Maidens show on Fridays at the Skylark Bar is now the Hot Toddies show! It's still free for you and me!

  • The Hot Toddies Show at the Skylark Bar in San Francisco, 3089 16th Street (map). The Hot Toddies are very pleased to present an evening to remember! Thee Merry Widows vs. Los Shimmy Shakers at Bender's in SF tonight

There are some bands who are intimately involved with the burlesque scene in the Bay Area. Two of these are Thee Merry Widows and Los Shimmy Shakers, who are performing together at Bender's Bar and Grill tonight, Saturday, September 24.

Thee Merry Widows feature burlesque queen Miss Eva von Slut on vocals. You may have seen her hosting or performing at many a burlesque show over the years. Plus Szandora LaVey will be hoop teasin' during their performance.

Los Shimmy Shakers come with their own burlesque performers, the Shakettes! You may recognize some of them from seeing them in burlesque shows. And if you look at the band closely, you may recognize one of them as A. Randy Johnson of Fromagique!

The doors will open at 9:00 p.m., and the show will start at 10:00. Bender's is located at 806 S. Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco (map). The show is $7.00, and it is a 21 and older show. And don't forget to wish Courtney a happy birthday!

San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for September 22 - September 28, 2011

This week will see some notable burlesque stars performing at local shows. Bazuka Joe of Chicago's Stage Door Johnnies will be making a couple of appearances, and The Shanghai Pearl of Seattle will also be performing.

There will be quite a few shows happening on Friday evening, so you'll have to choose from amongst several appealing options in San Francisco and the East Bay.

If you'd like to see a show in a theater setting, Fatdance: What a Feeling! will be happening at the Laney College Theater in Oakland on Friday and Saturday. While not strictly a burlesque show, it will feature both Lady Monster and Kitty Von Quim.

It'll be the Pajama Party show at Burlesqueteer Night on Monday night at the Uptown Club. The Burlesqueteers will be hosting the party, so expect some naughty goings-on in Oakland!

  • Also Friday: Baxtalo Drom - The Lucky Road at Amnesia in San Francisco, 853 Valencia Street (map). Wily women, crafty clowns and cunning rascals come one and all; this month Baxtalo Drom celebrates the heroic trickster with a night of belly dancers, can-can cabaret, brass band beats, rogue rabbits, mustachioed musicians and gypsy punk mischief. Featuring performances by Scotty the Blue Bunny, musical acts Ad Hoc Brass Band and Sahsa and Shiri, and dancing girls Sister Kate and Kimberly Mackoy. With special guest guest Maria Marie! San Francisco Bay Area burlesque for April 7 - April 13, 2011

There's a whole bunch of shows coming down the pike for the next few weeks, so I'll announce a change for the posting of events. Since there may be three or four shows for some nights coming up, I'll just post about one or two of them, depending on what seems appropriate. If you are a show producer or performer and would like your show highlighted with an individual posting, let me know via email, sfbr AT gmx DOT com. Thanks! And now on with this week's schedule!

Red Hots Burlesque is expanding their burlesque coverage this week, with their monthly "Go Deep" show starting at El Rio on Thursday, April 7. It'll be a lube wrestling show, with burlesque performances! Sounds fun! Then on Saturday, April 9, they'll mark the premiere of Dr. Sketchy's East Bay with an event at the Layover Lounge in Oakland. Their guests/models will be The Can-Cannibals! Woot! And, of course, their weekly show at El Rio will happen on Friday evening, as it usually does.

The Dangerous Curves Ahead vixens will be wrapping up their stay in this area of California on Thursday, before moving on to Mendocino and cities the very northern tip of the state. They'll be having a show Thursday night with Risk-A Cabaret at the Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol. It should be a great show in what used to be an abbey! Don't forget to wish Jodi of Risk-A Cabaret a happy birthday, too!

Curvicious Cabaret will be putting their second show together on Thursday at the Blue Macaw in San Francisco, which will be a tribute to George Carlin. This is a swell idea for a show with some very talented performers!

The High Rhythm Hustlers and Los Shimmy Shakers are having a couple of show this weekend that will highlight some of the local burlesque performers. So check out some of the shows in burlesque-friendly clubs!

Sunday will feature a show by the Naked Girls Reading San Francisco group which will highlight poetry and jazz. Their special jazz performer will be Ralph Carney! Check out their listing for a way to purchase advance tickets online. And remember that the Center for Sex and Culture has moved recently! The new address is in the event listing.

Los Shimmy Shakers: A "Vegas Bump-N-Grind" quartet based in San Francisco celebrating the release of their debut CD, "Shake 'em If You Got 'em".   • Sunday, April 10: Naked Girls Reading San Francisco presents Jazz and Poetry at the Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco, 1349 Mission Street (map).
    April is National Poetry Month and National Jazz Month. What goes better with jazz and poetry than baring it all, fancy-free and letting it be with beautiful, intelligent women? Joining the regular cast for Naked Girls Reading will be the vivacious stunning Cherry Galette. Each reader will choose their favorite poetry to read. Poets to be included: Shel Silverstein, Rainer Maria Rilke, Paul Eluard, etc.Regular cast will include Carol Queen, PhD, Lady Monster, and Ophelia Coeur de Noir. Ralph Carney, master jazz musician.   • Monday, April 11: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown Club in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue (map). This week will feature a lot of guest performers from out of town! The lineup will include Rizzo Rogue, Lowa de BoomBoom (Olympia, WA), Kitty Victorian (Washington, DC), Fever Blister (Los Angeles), magician Hernan Cortez, Dorian Faust, and Babraham Lincoln!   • Tuesday, April 12: Séduction Féroce at Era Art Bar and Lounge in Oakland, 19 Grand Avenue (map). Séduction Féroce is a burlesque cabaret variety show that happens every second Tuesday of the month! Cabaret Perilous and Rebel Cupcake in Oakland on Friday, January 28

This Friday, there will be burlesque in Oakland! In fact, there will be two shows which you can probably attend back-to-back.

The first is Rebel Cupcake, which will be at the Bench and Bar located at 510 17th Street (map), which is located just a few blocks from the Uptown Club where Cabaret Perilous will be happening. In fact, the Rebel Cupcake show will start at 9:00 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 10:00, which is when Cabaret Perilous will start!

Rebel Cupcake will feature performancs by Vixen Noir, Ms. Ginger Snapz of Seattle, Titland (Kentucky Fried Woman and Starr69), and more! It's a short show, but it's filled with talent!
