Red Hots Burlesque School of Shimmy: Burlesque 101 starts on September 12, 2009

Just a quick note that Dottie Lux sent out a notice in her newsletter that School of Shimmy (www.redhotsburlesque.com) will start a new term this Saturday at the Climate Theater in San Francisco:

Sept 12th 2-4pm Climate Theater (285 9th St & Folsom)
Burlesque 101: In this two-hour workshop, students will learn the history of burlesque, how to create a persona and basic choreography. As well as learning to build your burlesque attitude; feel great about your body, and an open discussion about increased confidence and positive thinking.

Open to students of any age or gender who want to shake it on stage or in the bedroom. No previous dance or performance experience is required. No deposit needed for class, however space is very limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. To reserve a spot email: redhotsburlesque@gmail.com with S.O.S. in the subject line.

Yes, this is a chance to catch Kitten on the Keys, otherwise known as Suzanne Ramsey, in a solo show free of chatter from the bar and the clinking of glasses and utensils on plates!

Kitten is one of the premier burlesque performers in the world. She's been an emcee at Tease-O-Rama and Miss Exotic World, been featured in books about the art of burlesque, and performed at many of the shows in San Francisco and in various cities in around the world. She'll even be in a film portraying a member of an American burlesque troupe in France.

The Climate Theater is a series of rooms, sort of like an art gallery. There are various works of art mounted in the theater, actually. I'm not sure in which of the rooms the show will be, but I think the largest would seat 60 or less, so get there early to get a ticket and a good seat. Kitten tends to be a popular draw, so I'd say be at the theater to purchase your ticket no later than 7:45, since the doors open at 7:30. Heck, to be really safe, get there at 7:15! :-P

Suzanne Ramsey opens playing Tin Pan Alley treasures, bawdy blues, and classic rock- songs that inspire her as a performer on piano ukulele and accordion. She transforms into burlesque character Kitten on the Keys- swathed in pink and a dirty mind.....to perform her double entendre dripped original cabaret charmers that will stir your nethers and tickle your funnybone.

Known as Kitten on The Keys, Suzanne Ramsey has been seen on HBO, E!, IFC, Queer TV MTV, and Bravo. She embodies the spirit and style of those days of decadence gone by. Pianist ,chanteuse, and mistress of ceremonies - expect a racy ragtime romp when this little kitty sharpens her claws on a meow mix medley of mad cap gems of yesteryear with a naughty whimsical edge. She’s toured the US and Canada with Devotchka, Teaseorama Roadshow, opened for the DAMNED on the Twisted Cabaret Tour in the UK, performed in sold out shows in France, Italy, Netherlands, Edinburgh and Helsinki , played for jazz legend Little Jimmy Scott in Las Vegas and recently performed in a feature film “TOURNEE” (2010) with award winning French actor Mattieu Almaric.
