Little Minsky's for Thursday, September 10, 2009

I've been waiting to get this news on my hot little monitor. Yes, it's the line-up for this month's Little Minsky's! And look! From exotic and faraway El Aye, the guest MC is Polly Peabody! ;-)

The wait is over... Little Minsky's is coming soon to a Thursday near you! In vibrant, vivacious, voluptuous 3-D! Because, well, real life is in 3-D now isn't it? Unless you have an eye patch, in which case we hopefully weren't responsible, but even the dimensionally impaired will appreciate this curvaceous cavalcade of vaudevillian delights! Up from Los Angeles we're pleased to welcome guest MC and veteran burlesque sensation Polly Peabody, who's many credits include contributions to Kubrilesque - a burlesque tribute to the films of Stanley Kubrick, running Lopsided Productions in LA along with co-conspirator Crystal Swarovski and stage appearances across the country from the Va Va Voom Room (New York and San Francisco) to The Red Rooster Review in Key West. Joined by such sizzling local talents as the cross-over belly dance burlesque troupe Sister Kate, Amelia Paradise & Sir Loin Strip (of the Diamond Daggers), Kristina Cañizares (also visiting from LA), Lady Satan, Delilah, Lady Monster, Miss de Minna, Sid Scenic and The Flying Fox. And for some musical diversions we have the toe-tapping rag timey tunes of The Dimestore Dandy and smoldering melodies from Alotta Boutté.

Pick your poison, settle in and enjoy the show...

Trans March and After Parties on Friday, June 26, 2009

It's time for Trans March 2009 (www.transmarch.org)! Not only is there the March itself, but there'll be after parties, too! And where there are parties, you'll find burlesquers!

The Trans March starts at Dolores Park in San Francisco. From 3pm until 7, there will be a "See and Be Seen" event. Then at 7, the March starts from Dolores Park, down 19th Street, makes a right on Valencia, then ends at 26th Street. (www.transmarch.org/route).

Starting at about 8pm at El Rio (www.elriosf.com), 3158 Mission Street, there will be the official after party. Entertainers will include performers seen at burlesque events such as Charleston Chu & Thisway/Thatway, King TuffNStuff, plus many others! Cover at the after party will be on a sliding scale from $5-50, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. But you will be turned away if you are under 21, as all events at El Rio are 21 and older.

Not only will there be an after party at El Rio, but Red Hots Burlesque (www.redhotsburlesque.com) is also on the schedule! For the usual $5-10, you can catch Dottie Lux's weekly show in the room off of the patio in back. I haven't received the lineup yet, but the only week that I can remember when there wasn't an RHB show was after Thanksgiving last year when El Rio was closed!

If that's not enough activity for ya, there's also The Bearded Lady's Trans March Freakshow! Yes, Amelia Mae Paradise brings you an evening of drag and burlesque to quench your wants and needs for entertainment post-March. And it'll all be at the Elbo Room starting at 9pm. How convenient! This month, the season of crass Halloween is smoothed and refined with this elegant and lavish ode to the opulence and mystery of the veiled season. Combining the style, fashion, and design of local performance and visual artists, Diamond Daggers Masquerade Ball provides the perfect mixed environment for flirtation, art, entertainment, fashion, and sexy frolic for all of the Bay Area's queer and slyly twisted folk.

The DIAMOND DAGGERS MASQUERADE BALL will feature a complete environment, designed to engage all the senses, including living mannequins from Hayes Valley's Dark Garden Unique Corsetry, live portraiture from renowned artists Suzanne Rachel Forbes, sponsorship from the Mission's ADS Hats, and environmental film projections from director Sushe Sprado.
