San Francisco area burlesque for August 4 to August 10, 2010

This coming week in San Francisco Bay Area burlesque will witness quite a few visiting performers!

Josie Bunnie
and Fever Blister from Los Angeles will be performing at the two Hubba Hubba Revue shows this week: Fairytales! at the DNA Lounge on Friday, and the weekly show at the Uptown on Monday. Note that the "Big Show" will be this Friday rather than the usual third Friday of the month. Additionally, Fever Blister will also be performing at the last Barbary Coast Burlesque monthly show ever on Wednesday at the Hemlock Tavern.

Marianne Cheesecake of London will be performing at two show this week: the Hubba Hubba Revue: Fairytales! show, and Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef on Saturday.

Sailor St. Claire of Seattle will be performing at Monday's Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown.

Plus, San Francisco will welcome new resident Cherry Poppins at Red Hots Burlesque on Friday evening at El Rio. Until recently, Miss Poppins was living and performing in Austin, Texas.

The San Francisco Bay Area welcomes all of these wonderful performers from other areas of the planet. It's always a treat to see what how burlesque is interpreted by artists from other cities, as each region has it's own "flavor" of burlesque. Enjoy! :-)

  • Wednesday, August 4: Barbary Coast Burlesque Says Goodbye! at the Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco, 1131 Polk Street. See the final monthly Barbary Coast Burlesque show! With performances by Alotta Boutte, Mae Western, Josie Starre, Fever Blister, Delilah, and Bunny Pistol herself. Hosted by Dottie Lux! 9pm to 11pm. $6, 21+ w/ID.

  • Thursday, August 5: Dr. Sketchy's SF presents Eva von Slut at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, 701 Mission Street. Eva von Slut--burlesque personality, pin-up model, and vocalist with the White Barons and Thee Merry Widows, will model in various poses for all artists, current and aspiring. Bring your drawing tools, and sketch pads! 6pm to 8pm. Free, all ages.

  • Friday, August 6: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. Sid Scenic of the famous Scenic Sisters joins a cast of performers including Dottie Lux, Ruby Vixen, Ophelia Coeur de Noir, Delilah and Cherry Poppins, a new arrival from Austin, Texas! Show at 7:30pm. $5-10, sliding scale. 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: Hubba Hubba Revue: Fairytales! at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, 375 Eleventh Street. Once upon a time, Funny Uncle Kingfish, and Eddie the Handsome Ogre, drank a few too many "magic potions" and decided to put on a BURLESQUE SHOW! So they invited all the prettiest princesses and sexiest storybook characters in the land to come shake their goodie-baskets at the Magical Kingdom called DNA Lounge! Starring Marianne Cheesecake (London, U.K.), Fever Blister (Los Angeles), Josie Bunnie! (Los Angeles), F'risqué, Honey Lawless, Gigi d'Flower, Calamity Lulu, Casey Castille, Sparkly Devil, Lady Satan, Ruby White, Bombshell Betty, Kiss Me Kate, Ariyana La Fey, The Reverend Mother, Bunny Pistol, Little Miss Never, Miss Balla Fire, Gorilla X, and the Hubba Hubba Storytime Go-Go's! Live jazz performed by Fromagique and Bombshell Betty and her Burlesqueteers! Doors at 9pm, show at 10. $15 general, $12 in advance at dnalounge.com, $10 from 9:00pm to 9:30 at the box office. 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: First Friday Follies at the Stork Club in Oakland, 2330 Telegraph Avenue. It's Little Eyeful's birthday, Margaret France's last show as emcee, and a Prince tribute show! Wear purple and participate in the Prince trivia contest! Featuring Isis Starr, Francine Dead, Chi Chis del Fuego, Cupcake & Little Eyeful, Monifa, Cherry Galette, The Empress, Jinx the Minx, Amateur Hour, Frida B of Rubenesque Burlesque, special musical guest Netta Brielle, and guest pick-up artist Bitter Waitress! Show at 9pm. Free, but donations warmly encouraged. 21+ w/ID.

  • Also Friday: Risk-A Cabaret at Aubergine After Dark in Sebastopol, 755 Petaluma Avenue. It's the AMERICANA show, where Risk-A Cabaret celebrates the fantasticality that makes us freakishly different than any other country! With Wild Card Bellydance, Miss Mae Western, The World's Biggest Comedy Duo, Joweh, Jellyfish Kiss, and The Crux. Plus MC Sacha of Brothers Horse! 9:30pm. $10, or $5 with flier.
  • Saturday, August 7: Burlesque n' Brass at Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, 1621 Telegraph Avenue. Join the Hot Pink Feathers and their musical cohorts Blue Bone Express for sets and sets of not only live, but exceedingly lively music and dance! Plus, all the way from London, special guest Marianne Cheesecake! Doors at 8:30pm, show at 9:30. $10, 21+ w/ID.

  • Monday, August 9: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. The weekly Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown welcomes Fever Blister and Josie Bunnie from Los Angeles and Sailor St. Claire from Seattle! With local favorites A.J. Molecular, Ava Lanche, Jodi Waseca, Chi Chis del Fuego, and Rosalynn La Roux! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15. $5, 21+ w/ID.

  • Tuesday, August 10: Séduction Féroce at Para Diso Lounge in Oakland, 2272 Telegraph Avenue. Burlesque, comedy, live music & more! Join comedic genius and MC Mary Van Note and stage kitten extrordinaire Midnight Magenta Muse for this new monthly show. With performances by Bang Bang Bonnie, Bubble Yum, Ophelia Coeur de Noir, Gibson Pearl, Hotcakes, Ruby Vixen, Sheba Queen of the Night, Alexis Von Fierce, Billie Boudoir, Moan Cheri, Eve Devlin, and of course the fabulous piano bar rag time rousers John Brothers Piano Company! 8pm. $5.

Bunny Pistol at Dr. Sketchy's SF on Monday, September 21, 2009

This month's Dr. Sketchy's in San Francisco features the gorgeous and talented Bunny Pistol. She's the burlesque force behind Barbary Coast Burlesque, and this year she performed at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas.

So grab your sketchpad and drawing instruments and head on down to 111 Minna Gallery on Monday for an opportunity to draw this fiery female phenomenon! Or you can hang out at the bar, have a drink or two, and admire her from afar. :-)

This month Dr Sketchy's SF presents the lovely and spicy Miss Bunny Pistol!

Bunny Pistol is a burlesque performer and show producer from the Bay Area. She has dazzled audiences who support the burlesque revival for just over two years. She has hit the ground running, performing on stages all over California and Las Vegas. She is the producer and of the monthly show, Barbary Coast Burlesque which is every second Wednesday of each month at Annies Social Club in San Francisco CA.

$7 students/teachers, $10 general, Free to spend time at the bar

San Francisco area burlesque for the week of May 25, 2009

Here comes summer! This weekend was the kickoff of the Summer 2009 season. And this one promises to be the hottest burlesque summer in memory! Well, at least in my memory! ;-)

And this is the week that "A Wink and a Smile" makes its San Francisco premiere. The director and the stars of the movie will be in town for screenings of the film, parties, and classes and Q&A sessions this coming weekend.

Add in the usual weekly shows and Dr. Sketchy's, and you've got the lineup of events for the week!

  • Monday, May 25, 2009: Uptown Hubba Hubba at the Uptown in Oakland, 1928 Telegraph Avenue. Celebrate Memorial Day with Hubba Hubba Revue! See Bunny Pistol, Twilight Vixen Revue, Bootsy LaRue, Sparkly Devil, McPuzo & Trotsky, Penny Lux, Rosanna McGuire, and Madam Chartreuse! Along with Zip The What-Is-It?! Doors at 9pm, show at 10:15ish. $5 (not much dough!), 21+ w/ID.

  • Tuesday, May 26: Dr. Sketchy's SF at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, 111 Minna Street. Sketch Dottie Lux of Red Hots Burlesque and watch her perform! Or hang out at the bar for free and chat with artists and check out their art. $10 for artists, $7 for students and instructors with valid ID. Free to hang out at the bar. Happy hour drink specials, too. 21+ w/ID.

  • Friday, May 29: Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio in San Francisco, 3158 Mission Street. Dottie Lux brings you a different show every single week! Each event promises the seductive and spicy, absurd and amusing all from local and visiting talent. Show at 7:30pm. Free!!! 21+ w/ID.

  • Friday May 29 through Sunday, May 31: "A Wink and a Smile" events at various venues and times. Catch a screening of the burlesque documentary Friday through Tuesday at the Red Vic Movie House, 1727 Haight Street in SF. Following the 7pm screenings Friday through Sunday, see some of the stars of the film perform live! The director Deirdre Timmons will also be in attendance. See previous posting for performance details. On Friday night, there will be an official afterparty, "Minsky's Winks," at Club Deluxe, 1511 Haight Street, presented by Little Minsky's and Academy of Burlesque. See this posting for details. On Saturday and Sunday, the Academy of Burlesque will be conducting classes, a workshop, and a Q&A session at the Center for Sex and Culture, 1519 Mission Street in SF.
