Red Hots Burlesque for Wednesday and Friday, November 2 and 4, 2011

At Red Hots Burlesque this week, they'll be celebrating a new month by introducing their Feature Performer of November: Kiss Me Kate!

She'll be performing at Friday's show this week, and Lady Satan will be hosting the show on Wednesday. Also performing on Wednesday will be acoustic comedy quartet, Bugs in Costumes. Watch your step! For the full scheduled lineup for each show, please see the show descriptions below.

Both shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. at El Rio in San Francisco, which is located at 3158 Mission Street (map). The cost of the shows are on a sliding scale from $5.00 to $10.00.

About our FEATURED Performer:
Kiss Me Kate is a Bay Area burlesque performer and show producer. She is a regular cast member of the Hubba Hubba Revue, and has also performed at Barbary Coast Burlesque, Little Minsky’s, First Friday Follies, Fishnet Follies, BOOTIE, and elsewhere. Kate performed in the 2008 Tease-O-Rama (San Francisco), the 2009 Texas Burlesque Festival, the 2010 Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend, and the 2010 New Orleans Burlesque Festival.

And on Thursday, it'll be time for all-women lube wrestling with Red Hots Burlesque at El Rio! Every first Thursday, it's Go Deep: Let's Wrestle!

Whether you're a wrestler or a spectator (or both!), you'll have fun at this wrestling match and burlesque show. This month will feature burlesque performers Roxy Rêve and Nicki Sparxx, followed by wrestling. Plus there will be food from Family Meal! It looks like red beans and rice and gumbo will be on the menu!

The burlesque and wrestling sign ups will begin at 8:00 p.m., and the wrestling will start at 9:00. Entrance will be on a sliding scale from $10.00 to $15.00.

Red Hots Burlesque with October's Featured Performer La Chica Boom this week

La Chica Boom will be making her first appearance as Red Hots Burlesque's Featured Performer for October this week at El Rio in San Francisco.

La Chica Boom is the founder and producer of Kaleidoscope Cabaret, An Annual National People of Color Cabaret, the first national event dedicated to cabaret and neo-burlesque performers of color in the U.S. She'll be performing on Friday evening, and visting ecdysiast from New York GiGi LaFemme will be performing on Wednesday evening. For a full list of performers for each night, please see the lineups below.

La Chica Boom is a performance artist, ecdysiast, and community organizer that explores Chican@ iconography, issues of race, gender and sexuality. Through the practice of ethnic drag, alternative dance, theatre, performance art, neo-burlesque, and clowning, La Chica Boom provides a biting satire that points to contemporary and historical escandalos.

About our FEATURED Performer:
Dorian Faust, also known as "Burlesque's Basquiat", is a dynamic creatrix, explosive performance artist, and inspired pop-culture icon. She is a classically trained dancer,actress, and vocalist. She made her Burlesque debut in New Orleans in the winter of 2008, and it was there that she graced the stages of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, The Howlin' Wolf, and,The Marigny Theatre. In the fall of 2009, she became the first Burlesque performer to ever rock the stage of the Afro-Punk Tour with Saul Williams, CX Kidtronik, and Tchaka Diallo. On her two-year Burlesque anniversary she flew out to San Francisco, California and became a member of Sin Sisters Burlesque, and performs regularly with the Hubba Hubba Revue and Red Hots Burlesque. Most recently she has begun production on her own show, Livid Cult Burlesque Theatre, "The Bay Area's most subversively sexy indie Burlesque show"

Vienna La Rouge at Red Hots Burlesque, Mischievous Maidens at Skylark Bar this Friday

This Friday, November 12, there will be two burlesque shows to choose from in the Mission District of San Francisco!

At El Rio, Red Hots Burlesque welcomes Vienna La Rouge! Now a resident of the South Bay after getting her start in Seattle in 2002, Miss La Rouge is known for her elaborate costumes (which she makes herself) and her classic burlesque performances. She's known as the modern day Lili St. Cyr! See a video of one of her performances below.

Also performing will be Kitty Victorian from Washington, DC, and The Squidling Brothers from Philadelphia. Ms. Victorian is DC's most recognized name in burlesque, and started the city's first burlesque troupe, DC Gurly Show, in 2004. She has been operating Burlesque University since 2006, and has opened its doors in Fresno and Reno, as well as other cities. She will also be performing on Thursday, November 11, at Toolbox, Club 93, in San Francisco, and on Saturday, November 13, at the Fella-Fem Show at the White Horse Bar in Oakland.

The Squidling Brothers are a circus sideshow act which reminds me somewhat of the Displayed Labors Sideshow. For a sample of what you may expect to see, watch the video below!

Also performing will be Miss Rahni, Shadow Circus Creature Theatre, and RHB's own Dottie Lux! So head on over to El Rio, where in addition to the burlesque, you will find SF's best happy hour!

About our debut performers:Known as the modern day Lili St. Cyr, Vienna La Rouge began her burlesque career in the casually dressed city of Seattle in 2002.

She showed them a thing or two when it came to glamour, fashion, and of course the titillating tease of Burlesque. Now residing in California's south bay area, she continues the timeless tease. Decked out in costumes that boast thousands of hand placed Swarovski crystals, she evokes bygone eras. Her movements and attention to detail seem to capture moments in time when beauties and ecdysiasts like Anna Held, Gypsy Rose Lee, and Sally Rand ruled the stage with style and class.

Miss La Rouge took her name after the timeless and romantic city of Vienna, Austria and finds inspiration in its beauty, history, and eclectic mix of historical & modern culture. Although born and raised in Seattle, the city of Vienna is also a place with deep family roots for this burlesque ingénue, dating as far back as the 12th century.

As an accomplished seamstress, Vienna is also the designer and sole creator of all her costumes and props. The 1700s thru the 1950s inspire both her stage routines and the costumes that grace them. Along with almost 15 years of classical ballet training, she gets many of her ideas for her numbers from the Belle Époque, vaudeville, the Ziegfeld Follies, old Hollywood films, musicals, and the dramatic costuming of Edith Head and Adrian.

Just a few of her idols include Austrian Empress Elizabeth ("Sisi"), Marlene Dietrich, Anna Held, Gina Lollobrigida, Carole Lombard, Betty Grable, Lillie Langtry, Evelyn Nesbit, Camille Clifford, Edwardian actress Élise DeVére, Mona Vaughn, Sally Rand, and Gypsy Rose Lee. Stage props include everything from a glass of absinthe, classic 3 to 4 foot ostrich feather fans, to a large satin boudoir cushion.

Currently, Vienna is performing all along the west coast between Seattle and San Francisco.
