Hubba Hubba Revue stage-play at Cobb's Comedy Club this Thursday, February 4, 2010!

If you missed the first time that Hubba Hubba Revue staged their play at Shotgun Theater last November, this is your chance to see HHR as you've never seen them before! Mostly scripted! While you are sitting down at tables eating and drinking! Woo woo!

Seeing a burlesque show in a theater environment is a different experience than seeing one in a club. People are generally not milling about and talking. Much more attention is focused on the performance. Even the crowd tends to be different. Though I imagine that there will be quite a few Hubba Hubba Revue fans in the audience, there will also be many comedy fans who may be new to burlesque.

What is the play about? Staging a burlesque show! Of course, Kingfish is the emcee and producer of the show who has lured cabaret star Wiggy Darlington (accompanied by her personal assistant, Sid Scenic) to appear in his show. Along the way, he has to deal with Eddie, who stumbles in from an alley to interrupt the proceedings and co-emcee with vaudevillian jokes. Along the way, Zip the What-Is-It? falls for performer Miss Information, there are sexy and fun performances by Bunny Pistol and Pin Key Lee, and those troubadours of troubled times, McPuzo and Trotsky, perform some hilarious songs as only they can.

Though everyone plays a version of themselves and the play is about staging a burlesque show, the whole thing seems new when in placed in a different environment. Even though you may have seen Hubba Hubba Revue shows around the Bay Area before, I encourage you to see this show to experience a twist on what a burlesque show can be. As Kingfish said in a Berkeley Daily Planet interview last November, "... in this show, everything’s the same, but it’s different."

So join Kingfish and Eddie and the whole HHR crew for rollicking good time at Cobb's Comedy Club in North Beach. The doors open at 7pm, and the show starts at 8. Seating is general admission, so get there early to make sure you are close to the stage. Tickets are $15.50, and there's a two drink minimum. All audience members must be at least 18 years of age with a valid ID. Cobb's also features a full dinner menu and a full bar, so you can make a full evening of it this Thursday! Now that's something to shout, "Woo woo!" about. :-D

Shotgun Cabaret in Berkeley this Saturday, November 7, 2009

The burlesque invasion of the East Bay continues this Saturday as the Hubba Hubba Revue hooks up with the Shotgun Players to present Shotgun Cabaret at the Shotgun Theater in Berkeley!

Shotgun Cabaret flier front, November 7, 2009

I guess Kingfish and Eddie must have some incriminating photos of the artistic director of the Shotgun Players, which up until now has been a respectable theater company. Ha ha! I kid! ;-)

On Monday's Uptown Hubba Hubba show, Kingfish mentioned that this will be a unique show for them in that there will be a script. Hooray! Many of the theater company's usual patrons will be attending the show, in addition to fans of burlesque.

As a result, it would be a very good idea to buy your tickets in advance! According to Kingfish, as of noon today there were only standing room only tickets available for the 8pm show. Tickets for the 10pm show are selling briskly.
