Bunny Pistol's Borracho Bingo and Cinco de Mayo events!

Ms. Pistol is certainly a busy Bunny! She's got two events coming up within the next week: Bunny's Borracho Bingo on Sunday, May 2, at the Acme Bar in Berkeley, and Barbary Coast Burlesque's Cinco de Mayo show on Wednesday, May 5, at the Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco.

First off, it will be Bunny's Borracho Bingo! It will be a fundraiser for the various burlesque artists in the Bay Area. Bunny herself will be serving up some delicious adult beverages, and there will be special appearances by Kiss Me Kate, Josie Starre, Pin Key Lee, and guest DJ Ruby White. Plus there will be free tamales (Nom nom!), raffle prizes, and bingo.

Then on Wednesday, Bunny's Barbary Coast Burlesque moves on to their new digs at the Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco. The show will be there on the first Wednesdays of the month at least through June. It's a great, intimate venue, and the last time the show was there the crowd was enthusiastic! Just remember to make your way past the bar—where you can pick up some yummy beverages, by the way—to the back room where all the fun is happening.

This month's show will feature hot and sexy bump and grinds from Mae Western, Josie Starre, Lady Satan, Milkshake, Delilah, Sparkly Devil, sASSy Hotbuns, and Kiss Me Kate. A fantastic and talented lineup if there ever was one!

And to think the show is only $6. What better way for a burlesque fan to spend Cinco de Mayo in the Bay Area?

Swing Goth for National Dance Week
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 8:00pm
Blue Macaw (formerly 12 Galaxies)
2565 Mission Street
San Francisco, CA

It's National Dance Week and there's all sorts of activities in and around SF. Most of them (including ours) are listed here: http://www.bayareandw.org/

Swing Goth is a re-appropriation of partner dancing updating both instruction and technique to the modern era. We may not do things like your grandfather or grandmother used to, but we do capture the fun they had.... and we do it while dancing to Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Gorilaz, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, etc.

Beginner dance lessons are no partner or experience required, and in the spirit of the week, the beginners lessons are FREE for this week. The open dance from 9-1am is always FREE.

Beyond Beginner Lessons are $8 for singles or $12 for couples. For these classes a partner is preferred preferred, so come on, every guy grab a girl... everywhere around the world...

By request, Beyond Beginner lessons will be a recap of all of the twists and turns and lifts and dips that we've learned to-date.

About our debut performers:

If you've ever wondered what Vaudeville tastes like, wonder no more. The Slomski Brothers are coming to town, and they always know what to do. Currently residing in Richmond, VA, they have traveled the country over honing their skills as purveyors of fine goods and services.

Both Mark Slomski and Phil Slomski started performing at an early age, but it wasn't until Mama Slomski insisted they hit the road with the family luggage, Trunk Slomski, did they realize their dream: to bring laughter and the Slomski name to the entire world. Using an inherited ukulele and a pan forged from a moonshine still, the brothers aim to sell their special brand of music, including a hint of comedy, juggling and slapstick, to anyone with time to spare. It's not a show you'll want to miss, and it's not one you'll forget anytime soon

Najy started Go-Go dancing on the filthy bars of draq queen infested Unisex Salon, a party in New York's Lower East Side. Since then she has danced and performed with her glittery body all over- from vintage dance nights, queer blow-outs, fancy parties, coney island sideshows, to fetish balls, and finally San Francisco!

Little Minsky's for Thursday, April 8, 2010

Yes, it's the second Thursday of the month, so it's time for Little Minsky's at Club Deluxe in San Francisco! In an atmosphere that recalls the San Francisco of years past, catch a cabaret show that will include burlesque acts, a drag vocalist, a Spanish singer, a world fusion belly dancer, a jazz chanteuse, some Cottontails, and the ubiquitous Kingfish of Hubba Hubba Revue as the Master of Ceremonies!

The music's flowing and sequins glowing as cocktails clink and sly smiles curve the lips of stylish vamps. It's the Little Minsky's mix of glamour and spice, burlesque and cabaret with a dash of drag. And for our next show, we're welcoming four first-time Minsky performers - virtuoso jazz chanteuse Sheelagh Murphy, vintage and vaudeville-influenced world fusion belly dancer Wendy Marlatt, stunning drag vocalist Honey Mahogany and sensational original songs from Spanish singer/guitarist Joan Cerqueiro. In the art of the tease, the shimmy and shake, we have the vivacious Twilight Vixen Revue, ever-elegant Vienna la Rouge, irrepressible Sparkly Devil (photo at left), luscious Honey Lawless, pin-up perfect Pin Key Lee and the intoxicating Mai Tai. Jovial host Kingfish leads the way through these enticing acts, but if you find yourself frequently following him to the bar, don't say we didn't warn you...

San Francisco area burlesque for April 7 to April 13, 2010

Let's take a look at the burlesque calendar and see what we've got coming up!

Little Minsky's has a nice mix of performers this Thursday at Club Deluxe in San Francisco. They usually do. It's a great atmosphere there, and the acts are top-notch.

Ooh! sASSy Hotbuns has a show she's producing at Winters Tavern in Pacifica on Friday night! And there's no cover! Of course, donations are welcome. It might be nice to stroll along the beach before the show (bundled up, of course) with someone special!

Booze, Broads, and Hotrods presented by the Bombshells is this Saturday at the SFO Clarion Hotel in Millbrae. La Cholita from Los Angeles is the special guest burlesque performer. They'll have lots of bands, a car show, and DJ dancing. It's a great event for all of you into rockabilly!

Johnny Crash has an exhibition of his burlesque photos this Saturday at Voila Cafe in Oakland. Art and burlesque is a natural fit, especially photography. I bought a photo of Flame Cynders from Johnny's vendor table at the last big Hubba Hubba Revue show. He's shot some great photos!

If you hadn't noticed, Gigi d'Flower is pregnant! Yes, some of you may not have noticed when she's performed recently, but she is due to deliver a future burlesque star soon! And Monday, you can join in the joyous occasion at the Hubba Hubba Revue show at the Uptown Club in Oakland.

Lastly, next Tuesday Dr. Sketchy's San Francisco is presenting a tribute to the many faces of David Bowie. Kitty von Quim and Honey Penny will be the models who will channel the Bowie of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Plus they'll perform! Perfection. :-)

A Little Exposure: An Exhibition of Johnny Crash's Burlesque Photos

Whenever I get a new camera, I like to take it out and try to take some pictures at burlesque shows. The venues are usually challenging places at which to shoot, as it's usually pretty dark and the subjects are moving. I'll admit, my pictures aren't very good!

But someone whose pictures ARE good is Johnny Crash. If you've been to burlesque shows in the past year, odds are you've seen him near the stage with his camera equipment or at his vendor table at some of the shows. He's one of the coolest cats around, and very friendly! You can take a look at some of his personal photos at his Flickr account, and his MySpace page.

This Saturday at Viola Cafe in Oakland, there will be an exhibition of Johnny's photos from 6 to 9pm. So head on over, take a look at some terrific burlesque photos, and enjoy some of the delicious juices, smoothies, and food at the cafe!

Here's his message inviting you all to his showing:

As a fan of Burlesque, my images attempt to capture the raw emotion and electricity conveyed in performance, elements I had previously documented when working with motorcycles and live bands. Yet, never have I seen the same level of beauty and power exhibited so consistently as I had in the work of the Burlesque performers. The highlight of my experience has been getting to know the women behind the personas. I have grown to admire and appreciate the level of artistry, dedication and passion they bring to to the stage with each performance. It is their essence that inspires my work.

So join me at Viola Cafe for - A Little Exposure - A celebration of the hard working, exciting, and magical women of Burlesque.
